Pls I will sincerely like to know

Are you saying the sheets proforce, innosson and other assembling guys use for their vehicle assembly are all imported ? Cos that's like saying everything in a car is imported.
Is there no company that produce sheets for vesicle roofs and doors and sides ?

Na metal sheets most of these busses innoson assembles are made off.
I will really like to know

Sometimes it still baffles me that dangote is building a refinery, shey he is that archaic or not willing to innovate or just choosing the safe way?

They are all CKD bro. They come as prefabricated items to be assembled here.

One thing preached by Brabus on here that I copied is to try to increase the tools capability of artisans on site. No artisan can claim that they worked on my site without learning about a tech tool for their industry.

We are working on a laser level for my POP guy. He's still doing the line work manually and watching him I know he can gain more time if he goes to a laser line level.

Nigeria does not have a flat sheet plant. We only have rolling steel plants to make stuff like rod if we could get them to produce.

This was a big issue in the 70s when Obasanjo administration was implementing the import substitution strategy that brought about Ajaokuta and DSC Aladja. Economists argued then that building a Russian rolling steel plant (Ajaokuta) is a white elephant project. Investing in a flat sheet and aluminum extrusion plant is a better option. From a rolling steel plant you can only make rebars (rods) but with flat sheet plant you can make a whole lot of stuff like car parts, aircraft parts etc. But they didn't listen.

They didn't listen because in the 70s Nigeria was booming. There was the cement armanda, cement was cheap. Very cheap. Nigerians were building houses up and down the country, housing estates were being built in the Federal Capital Lagos eg FESTAC Town. Julius Berger was building fly overs all over the Federal Capital Lagos. The then government thought this boom will go on forever, so as part of the import substitution strategy, Ajaokuta, Aladja and Itakpe were proposed to produce rods to feed the building boom. 50 years down the line we all know what is Ajaokuta today.

So yes. Innosen import parts as CKD and then assemble. Innosen like so many car manufacturers all over the world is an assembly plant. The parts and engine block come from all over the world.

All roofing sheets manufacturers in Nigeria import the roll sheet and then cut and press into the roofing sheets for sale to the public.

Thanks so much for this.
Should I say I don't believe you
Or it still baffles me

Cos I have watched so many interviews of innoson where they claim they manufacture most parts in Nigeria.
I know the man has a plastic company
That should cover for his dashboard and other parts

Omo
KO easy
Nigeria has the potential to be a member of G7 QND MAKE IT g8
But both past and present killed those dreams

We have almost d same demographics as India
And they are doing better than us.
Everybody is responsible for this mess.
I don't wanna detail this thread
So I will stop here.
For 60 years
We haven't been able to produce a single govt
Both at local and state level that has some level of integrity and can set a benchmark

As for dashboard, plastic etc, it is possible innosen manufacture them in Nigeria. These are petrochemical by-product. Nigeria has petrochemical plant in Eleme if we can get it to produce.

As for the flat sheet like doors, fender, boot etc they are imported as CKD.

Please share the issues if you can. It was the in thing in the USA some years back.

* Once they cut to size at the factory, you can't adjust it again except you take it back there n they do that for you which means your openings must be perfect else you will have breakings to do. Ur installer can easily trim n adjust your aluminium on site unlike the PVC

* Due to the weight, if it's a build which will be airtight like you won't be opening the windows n doors steadily it will last more n might nt have issue but if you will be doing lot of opening steadily it will sag/drop with time

* Don't know about the improvement on the materials now in term of fire resistance, the old once I have seen used n replaced aids fire a little.
* Expensive as well

All this are based on my personal experience n might not be for all but most clients after buying houses with PVC windows n doors in Lekki do change them instantly to aluminium, I believe our aluminium guys can tell us more

My dad was a pioneer staff at DSC Aladja. He said the steel plant has the capacity to produce vehicle parts. DSC has phase 2 that was never built. My dad was in SMS department. The company was mismanaged after Engr Fred Brume left.

We can't make them in Nigeria as yet. We have three steel plants in Nigeria: Itakpe, Ajaokuta and Aladja. All are rolling steel plant. You need a flat steel plant for Complete Knocked Down sheet (CKD). This was the advice given to Obasanjo down to Shagari way back then in conceptualizing these projects.

The country does not need three rolling plants. At least one flat sheet plant was needed for CKD parts for car manufacturing plants in Ibadan (Laylands), Volkswagen in Lagos, Alumanco in Enugu and Peogeut in Kaduna. But as usual, they did not listen. Today, we know the rest.

One shitty Chinese company in aba already makes flat sheets I believe...from recycled metals....I dont want to say their name because of how they treat their staffs...volume is key...they don't have that at the moment...focusing on other products that yields more cash..

I’ll show pictures later today.

I agree with the expensive part. Though the guys who made those windows are out of business now or maybe they move to a different environment where there product will be appreciated.

In terms of quality, I’d go with PVC.

Charging 2,000 more than those doing it the conventional way

Haba kilode 2800 per sqm for labour? Those prices are for diasporas not Nigerians in naija. Egun you should no better, I just get some done last week on top of my penthouse, it’s cost me 520 per sqm because of the hight and size, only 100 sqm. That why it’s cost that much. No mater what equipment they have, it’s can never be better the new laser tool technology they’re using here. My opinion it’s shouldn’t be more then 500 to 5050 per sqm, you can get better price if the area is bigger.
