Hello Nairalanders and Guests.

I am just curious to know what to do with the placenta after birth, and I am sure many young men as first timers feels the same if handed the placenta after his wife delivers a child.

Especially to young guys that are just raising a family. I know that culture varies but in Yoruba tribe for example, placenta are meant to be buried. Buried where? On your land or you have to encroach another man's land to bury that?

As a father or grandfather kindly share your experience on how to dispense placenta after delivery.

It is disposed as medical waste except requested by the mother for cultural or traditional rights.

Some Doctors normally use it to eat rice and stew.

They say it's more nutritious than beef.

Bury it in a designated spot.some persons even go ahead and plant a tree on top where the placenta is buried.

Keep it in the museum maybe.

No, it's not. It's educative. People like me don't know what they do with it except the conspiracy theory that surrounds it, which still doesn't give an answer.

There is a Yoruba adage that says "Ojo ta ba ribi ni ibi nwole" which means the same day you see a placenta is the same day we bury it,

I actually buried a particular placenta the next day and usually laugh when I hear that adage

I think it is a difficult situation to bury the stuff for those living in the urban area.

Many oyibo women do eat their baby's placenta after delivery, claiming that it suppresses this, improves that and enhances the other. No scientific backup to any of these o.

Check those birth forums and you'll see them discussing different recipes for placenta. Yuck.

Very simplified solution...

My hospital disposes it but if yours doesn't or your mind doest agree with it,pieces and flush in the toilet or bury in ur compound.

My kids are doing very well for those who'd cite ritual purposes.I no kukuma believe in it

Very easy.... Just give it to the dogs.. they'd help you clean the mess in seconds

Take it, burn it to ashes, issue some commands to the ashes and bury it in a location no one knows...
