this is unfortunate walai.
I keep wondering if it is some sort of deficiency from the part of AFNs Intelligence or is it the Absence of Political will power to deal with these guys.

This might definitely mean they are planning an attack or launching one soon around (Monguno,Kukawa or Marte)

Infiltration & camouflage. Classic old North Vietnamese and Vietcong tactics or any guerrilla group, get close enough for close quarter slug fest and in this case willing to die for the cause.

That wahala they bring each time is very welcome because whatever they are up to they will receive hell fire and brimstone only much worse this time and as was always the case losing more men than they can hardly replace. And so we will continue to kill them like rats and blast their human cannon fodders until such a time the exigencies of time overtakes their cause. This is Nigeria not Afghanistan and the Nigerian Army is not going anywhere anytime soon at least for a millennium if Jesus tarry. We are here to stay. That's already a losing reality for ISWAP/BHT. They can never win this war. Its over. The balance of power is in our favour.

I won't say It is not about intelligence or political will,it is about timing and the ability to be easily mobile and uncertainty. You may have ISR craft above them but are you sure they don't have kidnapped victims in their midst that is being used as shield

In the interview of the former group captain of the Nigerian airforce, he mentioned something about having eyes in the sky at all times, something like observation balloons that will enhance the effectiveness of other ISR platforms. The airforce first needs to know where they are right now and then continue to monitor their movement until it a suitable time to destroy them. The few ISR platforms we have can't stay in the air for so long.

True but how many observation balloon will be enough, where will they be fixed and will there be manpower allocated to protect this balloon. I once suggested that we get each state an isr drone but then again it won't be enough because they would need to be recharged and serviced but can the number of ISR platforms be increased and also the intelligence gathering agencies need to increase their capacity and response

Bandits repenting and integrating with communities in Katsina have other plans. The plan of those the state government employ is even higher, as per crime.

Among the penitent souls Gov. Bello Masari has brought into his cabinet in the amnesty programme for repentant bandits are Abdullahi Mai-Rafi 43, Abbas Haruna alias Dogo-Abbas 34, , and Usman Hassan, (aka Manu) 50.

They were believed to have been working in the office of the special adviser on security, with all the pay and perks attached.

However, the police just discovered they were moonlighting.

At opportune time, armed with machetes and clubs, they slipped into banditry—cattle rustling, robbery, and namedropping.

The trio went to Danmarke forest, Ingawa LGA, with a motor vehicle – Toyota Camry, ash in colour, with registration number DE 631 LED—and attacked a herder, one Alhaji Gide Suleiman of Malumafashi LGA while grazing his animals, the state police spokesperson Gambo said.

“Threatened him and his boys that they were from the office of the Special Adviser on Security to His Excellency, with a false allegation that their brother, Ine Sa’idu had robbed one Lawal of his herds and that they should either produce the said Saidu or bring hundred (100) cows.”

They fought the herder, and succeeded in rustling 20 cows valued at N7.5m. They also searched and robbed the herder’s family of N40,000 and four GSM handsets.

The penitent bandits came the second time, attempting to stick up the same family. The police, already involved, moved in, and rounded them up.

“The gang leader, Abdullahi Mai-Rafi confessed to have conspired with the others and sold all the cows at Dankama market, Kaita LGA of the state. Two cows and N444,000 were recovered as exhibits from them.”

By Idowu Isamotu

The Military High Command has refused to give details of the condition of Major Christopher Datong who was abducted when armed men broke into the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna last week.

Daily Trust had reported how bandits invaded the residential quarters at the NDA, leading to the death of two officers and the abduction of Datong.

Few days after the attack, there were insinuations that the attackers made contact with the military and demanded a N200 million ransom while there were also reports that the abducted officer had been killed.

When asked on the whereabouts of the kidnapped Major at a press briefing at the Defence headquarters, Abuja, on Thursday, Brig.-Gen. Benard Onyeuko, acting director of Defence Media Operations, said the military would keep Nigerians posted.

“That has been over flogged, we all know the actions taken so far. We will wait for the outcome of the panel set up and the board of enquiry, we will keep you posted on that,” he said.

But some people were saying the bandits have been surrounded and have no where to go...

How's the attack on Rann a failed one?

They attacked and dislodged the soldiers, they looted and burnt some military equipments and stayed for some few hours before withdrawing.

So how's it a failed attack?

Nigerian Security Operatives Lie To Journalists, Prevent Them From Covering Induction Of Six Super Tucano Aircraft

The security operatives included men from the military and para-military organisations.

BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORKAUG 31, 2021

Journalists were on Tuesday prevented from covering the induction ceremony of the six newly acquired A-29 Super Tucano aircraft into the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Order of Battle.

They were denied access to the Presidential Fleet Apron, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, in Abuja as they were told by the armed security operatives stationed at the venue and other locations at the airport, that the ceremony had been postponed.

The security operatives included men from the military and para-military organisations.

But a top official from the United States embassy in Nigeria said the induction was neither cancelled nor postponed as claimed by the security agents, Daily Trust reports.

The official further said the ceremony was done 'quietly', adding that he had no idea why the military prevented journalists from attending the ceremony.

Spokesman for the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, had on July 22, 2021, announced the arrival of the first batch of six A-29 Super Tucano aircraft in Kano.

He disclosed that the aircraft were received by the Minister of Defence, Maj.-Gen. Bashir Magashi (Rtd), alongside the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Oladayo Amao.

Officials of the United States, the country where the fighter jets were acquired, had on Monday during a roundtable meeting with selected media houses, said US would help Nigeria in the fight against terrorism, using A-29 Super Tucano.

According to the Commander, United States Air Forces in Europe and Africa, Gen. Jeffrey Harrigian, the induction of A-29 Super Tucano into Nigerian Air Force operations, will be a defining moment in combating terrorism and other violent extremism.

He explained that the acquisition of the fighter aircraft for the Nigerian military had brought in a multitude of capabilities that would help in tackling the prevailing instability in Nigeria.

“Importantly, the platform itself brings a multitude of capabilities and this is not just about weapons, it is about intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, it is about that operability that it provides between the air component and the ground component.”

“And so, it broadens the shared understanding of the force to be able to operate in these different domains.

“And, we see this as a great opportunity to work together in these different areas to deepen our partnership and look for future opportunities, whether it be training or intelligence because part of what we offer and what we are going to work together is really the full package.

“And, when we talk about the maintenance of an aircraft, when we talk about the tactics, techniques and procedures that the pilots use, those are all things, we are going to continue to refine together with the Nigerian Air Force.

“And, we see this as really an opportunity to broaden those areas where we have these shared values and areas that we’re going to work together to ultimately work to improve the security instability and work in partnership with all the things that the embassy does,” he had said.

That wasn’t a failed attack from reports. I think the military should start using proper barricades in Military outposts.

Rann is like a community in the middle of a desert. I think the military needs proper towers to watch from distance. The three attacks Soldiers were dislodged in Rann I know about, when I ask Soldiers on ground they usually said it took them unawares and they were dislodged because of Superior fire from BH.

Also most of our APCs,MRAPs and MBTs in these locations ain’t functioning properly mostly used just because of the mounted guns.

The Army should improve on its surveillance. If Borno North is already becoming tense in August, what will happen in Late October and November?

May God continually keep us safe.
