Great post. Keep in mind though that Odua group was set up to manage the assets of the defunct western region, seek areas
of growth to invest in and provide dividends to shareholders (the constituent SW states).

It can provide community assistance via social responsibility (I believe it provides scholarships amongst others).

Electricity sufficiency is way beyond odua’s mandate. The funding, technical know how of power generation, transmission and distribution is of great magnitude. It is way beyond odua group’s core competency and mandate.
I don't think electricity sufficiency is beyond odua's mandate, I believe they can achieve it if they want, it's all about harnessing the gas and dams across the region, the transmission and distribution infrastructures are already there, maybe a little tweaking or upgrade will be needed.

The problem is NIGERIA and it's draconian laws, electricity is on the exclusive list, it's d sole property of the govt before it was unbundled, but the transmission is still under FG while generation and transmission are left to private sectors.

Again, the law permit states to generate electricity, but if it's over 30mw, the state will have to put it on the national grid, meaning the generated electricity by the state will be distributed across the country..... I don't think any logical state will want to jump into that, that's exactly the problem lagos state is facing.

If the law had allowed states to generate, transmit and distribute its own electricity across its own state and sell to other willing buyers, I believe odua can achieve electricity sufficiency across the region if they want, they will only need to buy some generating companies, expunge itself from the national grid at oshogbo and massively invest in distribution. In short, Lagos, Ondo and Osun states can be the power states since generating and transmission infrastructures are already there, Those three states can be the network to other western states....... But the Nigerian law doesn't permit that for now.

It may sound impossible, but with the right laws, the right plan and dedication, it's very possible...... It may only take time.

The laws as currently written is definitely a hinderance; I totally agree with you on that.

I understand how we all want to see this issue addressed, but I think you are really underestimating what it'll take to get this accomplished.

The government itself needs to engage the services of a company such as Germany's Siemen Energy,
the Unites States' GE Power etc. to help harness and upgrade the power/electricity sector.

The SW states can collectively sign MOU/Contracts with these huge firms, upgrading the sector in phases
as funds are available.

The mundane laws need to be changed to effect this change.

In my humble opinion, the odua group should be left to specialize in managing the assets of the defunct western region, investing
in areas of growth and providing dividends to the constituent SW states.

You can't ask an Accountant or Engineer to do a Medical Doctor's job.

Part of the reason we're in the mess we're in is because we do not always use
the right resource to carry out our goals/objectives.

We really need restructuring and power devolution to be able to develop at a much faster speed. The current system is really holding us down. This is why some are agitating for Yoruba nation when they feel leaders from other ethnicities will never support restructuring due to envy or jealousy for the perceived and obvious greatness of the Yoruba people. They will rather have us stuck in stagnancy with them than leave them behind.
Very well said. God bless you!

@theenchanter & @ Arnold1 were just discussing how states are only allowed to generate
a maximum of 30 MW of electricity to be distributed in their states. Anything above this,
must go through the national grid!

You can imagine this!

It is disheartening!

Makinde inspects on-going Akobo flyover, Lekan Salami Stadium, Ajia-Airport-Ife Expressway projects

…says govt ‘ll continue to improve sport facilities to empower youths, develop Oyo economy

Oyo State governor, ’Seyi Makinde, on Friday, inspected on-going infrastructure projects in Ibadan, including the Akobo-General Gas Flyover, the 21-kilometer Ajia-Airport-New Ife Expressway road, with spur to Amuloko and the Lekan Salami Sport Complex remodeling project.

The governor expressed satisfaction with the quality of the works being done by the contractors, saying that he was excited with the pace of work done so far.
He added that the scope of the projects has been well covered, while the schedule is being followed.

Speaking with newsmen at the Lekan Salami Sport Complex, Adamasingba, shortly after inspecting the projects, the governor said that his administration will continue to improve sport facilities in the state to empower youths and develop the economy.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, indicated that the Lekan Salami Sport Complex has been upgraded to FIFA standard, with four world class Changing Rooms, capacity for 25 players and Wet Areas with capacity for 11 players at a time.

Others were the Doping Control Room, Clinic, Referee's Room, Match Officials Room and a Youth Centre/Ball Boys Rooms.
The statement added that the stadium has also, in line with FIFA requirement, been equipped with state-of-the-art Studio, including CCTV facilities that can monitor five kilometre radius of the stadium and also the Ibadan Airport, as well as world class gadgets that will enable the linking of the stadium to a minimum of four stadia.

The statement also noted a new training pitch, a multipurpose hall for Basketball, Volleyball and Handball, a new Squash Hall and a 50 by 30 Metres Multipurpose Hall completed with a centre court, for gymnasium, boxing, judo, kickboxing will also be delivered at the facility.
In his speech, Governor Makinde said: "Well, I will say so far, so good, the scope is well covered and we have made quite some progress. Also, the schedule is being followed.
"I will say I am excited and I look forward to the official opening, which has now been pushed to the 1st of September. I also look forward to seeing our darling team, Shooting Stars, beat the foreign Team.

"When I was campaigning, people asked me questions about job opportunities for our youths and I said discovering sporting talents is one way of engaging our youths. And this is one of such projects that can enable us to achieve that.
"Also, we want to be on the map internationally by hosting international sporting events, not just football. We have seen the centre courts for the Tennis, Swimming Pool project and the facilities for volleyball, boxing, kick-boxing and the rest."

The governor promised to utilise sports to develop the economy of the state, saying: "So, we want to utilise sports to also develop our economy. We want to keep coming here every week by God's grace to watch Shooting Stars play in the National Premiership League and to also play competitions in Africa.
“We also want Shooting Stars to go on and play the World Club Cup competition, which I know is not beyond us.

"We have to bring development to our people, to our city and our state. That was why we were elected in the first place.
"Some of those projects should be nearing completion right now. We wanted to check and be sure that, indeed, what we have on ground matches the report I have been getting. And I can tell you that I am quite impressed with the contractor.”

Signed
Taiwo Adisa
Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde
