All those hailing this very good initiative because they want to spite the North will be the first to cry in due time when the real implementation starts.

A quick glance shows that when clearing agents clear goods, VAT will be charged by Lagos. What sounds interesting is that after clearing those goods, VAT may also eventually be charged at the destination location of the goods.

Interesting times ahead really. I think this is a watershed moment in our nation's history, and Wike will be remembered for leading the revolution.

May be this government is really the indirectly wake up call needed to bring sanity to the country.

The going may be tough at start, but the end must surely be productive positively.

Very good.

It will force states to develop their port to receive ships. Am sure states in the east will be happy to do that in order to divert most of d Igbo biz guys goods to Igbo land though may take time.

Hunger will force promiscuous Northerners to move south and one day d like of Wine will wake up and cub influx then zoo will end.

It becoming interesting now, let each state Assembly rise up to their responsibilities and formulate laws that we impact in the life of the citizens. Let each state spend what she generate rather than someone reaping where he didn't sow. It is high level of hypocrite if Northern states refused to allow "Haram" goods in their state because of Sharia law but can share largest percentage from the Haram money in the name of VAT. Restructuring, True federalism or everyone go their separate way. Chikena!

I understand completely the injustice being suffered by both Lagos River state on this issue of VAT, but it's about time we look into the issue dispassionately without sentiments.
Let's face it, we know the north has no capacity to generate VAT whatsoever so too are so several states in the south. Except for some few exceptional state like Ogun, Oyo, Anambra, Delta and probably Enugu(Enugu still in doubt) other southern state lack the capacity to collect VAT due to near zero commercial activity happening within the localities.
It's true VAT lies with concurrent list. Any FIRS lacks the legality to compel companies to pay VAT to them. But let's give it a human face. The reason VAT is being taken and shared among the 36 states of the federation is to help those state with less commercial activity to improve on their infrastructure and keep agencies of government functional, Yes the sharing formula for the VAT was highly lopsided no thanks to stupid mentality of some people up north that believes they're more equal than others.
Wike is right to challenge the injustice but he should tread with caution. He must have an open mind and be willing to renegotiate the sharing formula in such a way that it brings some sense of balance and fairness. This I'm sure of every southern states will be willing to support. It's just my advice. It's open to further suggestions
Are you new in Nigeria?
Negotiate with who if I may ask?
Negotiate with people who compare terrorists with legitimate spare part sellers?
You can only negotiate with reasonable humans. The only way to go is what Wike has started.
Every state in Nigeria is viable for business, only if the governor is willing to create enabling environment and encourage investment.

Nice Development, but am sure they know this version of the law is heading back to court as double taxation due to the clause on importation of goods.

Secondly Federal customs will not obey the state law, so who will implement it at the port.

Third is the long awaited port in Akwa Ibom. They should be fast as importers will be switching landing ports with alacrity.

Anambra state under Soludo should establish an offshore Lightering Terminal. Now our business men will have good reason to import straight to their village through Onitsha, and send to Lagos their due share by road.

This is good news for eastern ports.
