Nice one Klass. Very educative as usual.

Just a little note from me.
Tony really should have stayed one more year and gotten the citizenship. What he did was like refusing to climax after all the hard work.

I have a friend too who has got UK citizenship. He's been there for years. He recently sold his house over there (paid for completely through mortgage) and came to Nigeria to build a very spacious duplex.

He then set up a business in Owerri which didn't yield much returns. So he came back to the UK and worked for a year and gathered more money.

He's still looking to go back to Nigeria and establish again.

Being a citizen gives him the leverage to be able to shuffle between UK and Nigeria depending on his needs.

By the way Klass, which is the exact idea of retirement that you envision? Is it to have your own business as means of income or to have passive incomes from a stream of investments

tht your friend is not thinking right. should have not sold his house in the uk. rented it out and use the rent to live in nigeria. that way he wouldnt have had to return after his money finished in naija and business wasnt kicking

bro I disagree with you.The mindset of most 9ja people is follow follow. However dont you have a passion?? if you do turn it into business. There are loads of people who have left the Uk and US to go do their start ups, if you are on youtube google the Nigerians who returned to set up mechanic workshop, even tattoo school and body art, I know up to 5 women who returned to PHC to set up beauty spa etc and are doing wonderfully well
I can set up a busines right now as I speak and give you the videos etc. What's the guarantee that it will still be the same 10 years down the line. Sometimes all it takes is one incident to completely ruin you.
After endsars many people went bankrupt and may never recover
A woman was told in Kaduna who was running a successful eatery . One malicious rumour about her outfit being used for a sex party and her establishment was demolished. She is almost begging as we speak.

Starting a business in a socioeconomically unstable country like Nigeria is never a good idea. Prove me wrong.

Lets tell the truth. In oyinbo land evryone is equal. There are no big boys and even if you are made, no one will lok at you twice unless you are a celebrity.
For this reason many Niggerians become bored. Niggeria is the only place they can come and do big boy and everyone will worship you esp when they hear you are from abroad.
Dont be surprised the guy doesnt own a house there or its one of those council houses which will make it illegal for him to rent out. When you live there you go see Nigverians finish

If we cannot collectively dream about a better future, then all man better dream him own dream.
Let us talk about politicians, how many of them ever solved a problem before entering politics.
How many of them ever created value by running a successful business?
Nigeria's problem is more economic than people realize but we are so focused on politics that most people think our problem is political.
We have retired army generals, retired civil servants who were mostly corrupt, professional political jobbers running a country with so much economic potential but without a clue how to harness it.
Nigeria should look to Ghana where even African Americans are choosing of their own will to settle in and loads of their citizens are returning.

Nigeria is a very tough place. I returned last year but learning to live on the edge and constantly reminding myself this is Nigeria, where nothing works. However, opportunities abound!
Do you mind sharing with us some of these opportunities?

lol my post was based on if the story was true.i know for a fact that all these stories are lies.i read one who wrote his friend was doing dirty work and cleaning old peoples yansh and saving 100k dollars a year doing that. those jobs pay you 20 dollars an hour at most. lets assume its 20. then a week is 800 dollars and a year is 40 thousand dollars. so if someone is making 40,000 a year how is he saving 100k a year ? most of these stories from nigerians are lies on this forum. i never understand why it is in the nigerian mans blood to exaggerate issues LMAOO

I agree with your Ghanian Friend, for me relocating to western countries to get a better life is a no go area for me.

I don't know why Nigerians don't bother to think at all, the world is now open more than ever, you can be in Nigeria and earn in hard currencies such as Dollars and Euros, the problem is that most Nigerians don't want to develop themselves...

Very sensible comment. My App will be launched in UK next month... I will earn pounds with it. Enough pounds.
I know it give me like 3k pounds monthly by God's grace.

For Me I will build in Nigeria whether good or bad, dem dey sells the house for Lekki oo if you like no come buy, dey US dey suffer.

All this issue of coming back to Nigeria after some years in "obodoyinbo" to my on point of view, I can't advice any of my family to come back now under these so call Bokoharamist Govt, that has crumbled the country for there selfishinterest, no matter how your investment and huge amount you invested in Nigeria, is at the mercy of God not to come down in a twinkle of an eye. look at what happen during the end sars, many properties got destroyed, houses got burned, lost of life, till now nothing tangible has commenced for compensation. i stand to be corrected.

I regret everything about coming back to Nigeria after living in the UK.

Nigeria has gone to the dogs.

Very soon I go japa to a sane Country.
its not so bad if youu have the money move to a sane part of the country. away from people. the country is great, its the people in it that make it bad. things are cheaper, you can save, the weather is great, the food is great, what you pay for rent in a year over here you pay for just one month over there. THE KEY TO ENJOYING NIGERIA IS TO STAY FAR AWAY FROM STUPID PEOPLE AND MAKE SURE YOU ARE SET UP IN A WAY TO WHERE YOU EARN YOUR MONEY ONLINE SO YOU DONT HAVE TO DEAL WITH NIGERIANS AND THEIR POWER DOMINEERING ATTITUDE AT WORK. BUT LET ME TELL YOU ? YOUR GREATEST REGRET WILL BE TRYING TO RETURN ABROAD AFTER YOU HAVE RELOCATED TO NIGERIA. I am speaking from experience and i am taking steps to put mysef in the position i have described, which is stay away from most stupid nigerians ( get a location where not too many people are. i am eyeing epe at the moment ) and create an income online.

After Godogodo ( the most dangerous SW robber...Google))and his crew paid my household a visit , HEAVILY armed in one of the "most" secured and plush estates on the island in Lagos.........I ran so fast from that shithole. Was MISDIAGNOSED by a Doctor, After spending about 6M in " one of the best hospital" in Lagos, a visiting Nigerian American doctor friend took just "FIVE MINUTES" to correctly diagnose my issue as JUST THYROID (Naija doctors had me pay for expensive colonoscopy, HIv , Typhoid, expensive ECHO test twice and many others) I am at peace in my second Country USA. Haven't been back in 6 years when dollar was N150 . SOON as I got to Yankee, fed gave me weekly emergency money right away, full medical insurance and free tuition for my masters. ........The Best part, no one can tell me anything about Nigeria ( come home, come home BS)at least I can say I have been there , done that and my Children ( all graduates) always talk about the robbery and the Thieving Police) . I have lost so many friends due to sickness or armed robbery, I have another one in Ibadan that haven't been paid a salary in "two" years.Even visiting Nigeria now isn't safe anymore unlike back then. I will rather RETIRE in a peaceful environment....NO REGRETS WHATSOEVER!!!
cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy colonoscopy, them run tube up your yanch grin grin grin grin

just joking I have had that procedure once myself at cook country hospital in chicago

Nigeria breaks my heart almost on a daily basis, but being here is a choice I made over a decade ago because I had dreams of an amazing future here.
Nigeria is like a beautiful bride you hope to spend the rest of your life with, but then her character stinks and she keeps showing you new traits that just leave you exhausted.
I love it here most especially as something about being here keeps God on your mind.
I still love Nigeria and I believe in making it here but I absolutely detest the leadership even though at this point I no longer blame the government for our woes.
Exactly what the leaders want: exonerate them of blames, despite the fact they played a crucial role in bringing the country to it's knees. Buhari and co love your types. By the way, who do you blame for the country woes?

It depends on your field and individual capability skillwise. Nigeria is a growing nation with several gaps that needs to be plugged. Hence, why Opay, Flutterwave and other startups are raising billions ($million) from global investors.

One thing I noticed since I came back is that you have to operate at a global level to penetrate people that matters in Nigeria. For instance, in my case, I built a platform that addresses certain challenges and attracted corporations, high networth individual to me.

HOw often does someone just plant drugs in your business. THis is Nigeria where one general or politician can ask you to vacate your premises because he wants to and you cant do a thing. In places like abuja taxes is the new name for extortion. It's not about having cash. IS how far your cash can take you. What is the quality of living. Those guys on youtube wont tell you the flip side and the struggles they go through to survive. No one ever tells you the truth just feel good stories. Many many diasporans have been fooled by these stories and have been burnt badly. Even Dangote is cashing out and set to leave. the likes of Otedola have the bulk of their wealth and businesses outside the country. NO one thrives in instability.
You want to compare yourself with Chinese (LMAO). Those Chinese are treated better than the average Niggerian. They are the first class citizens and your country ( everyone from top to bottom) makes sure they are protected from anything that will hurt them or their businesses.

A growing nation @ almost 60. IF that is what growth looks like, its a good thing the rest of the world isn't growing the same way or we would have all been living in caves
by operate at global level what you mean is probably you have to seek clients outside Niggeria because people in NIggeria are not buying what you are selling. I will even go further to suggest that it is not exactly legal hence the need to operate in Niggeria where there are no checks.

oh trust me they know how to harness the economic potential of the country. if you have travelled and lived abroad you will know that when you compare some sectors in nigeria to their abroad counterpart that we are better. mobile banking for example ? its way better in nigeria. I am also impressed with the NIN thing and BVN. the country is full of the most brilliant entrepreneurs in the world. the richest black man on the planet is a nigerian. whats my point ? my point is they purposely keep it the way it is because only then can corruption thrive. its not like they dont know what to do to harness the full potential but making those moves will cut them out of the picture and they dont want that. its like a vulture feeding on the dead meat. you think the vulture will enact laws to where he will not have access to easy dead meat ? its a black mAns disease. ME FIRST. F-UCK THE COLLECTIVE

Bro you need to calm down so we can learn one or two things from each other. At global level i meant, operating in Nigeria 'as a Nigerian but with a global standard (technical know-how, structure, etc).' Nobody is talking about outside clients or businesses. See high net worth individuals or people that will engage you in a life changing business are widely travel and know whatsup (not necessary knowledgeable) but you need to give them something close to what they see in USA, UK etc. Sadly, most of the people that understands this are returnees and the few widely traveled Nigerians I have met.

For instance, Nigerian businesses still spends over $400 million on software license renewals, purchases, etc yearly and with the Naira trading at N562 to a United States Dollar, chronic scarcity will force them to look inward (locally). However, you have to be an outstanding software developer that can give them something similar or even better to capitalise on these opportunities.

At 60 Nigeria is still a baby compared to all the developed nations, except Singapore and Hongkong.
