Niger Republic is land locked and will require access to Sea/Port through either Nigeria or Benin Republic. This is an economically sensible decision. The project is also significantly part of the LAKAJI corridor which was essentially designed to link Lagos to Kano to Niger Republic, that plan has been on ground before Buhari and it makes sense.
That project will certainly pay for itself given the success of Abuja - Kaduna and Lagos - Ibadan experience.



Why don't it start from the beginning to pay for itself? By the way, what is the population of NIGER? Can their population bring much revenue to Nigeria? Is there no internal problems that such loan would not solve to the betterment of Nigerians.

This loan should be channel towards the completion of 2nd phase of Niger bridge and abandon part of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway as well other critical projects that need urgent attention

Nobody will reform it in this government...Guangzhou port in China is the main reason China economy is booming. They open up themselves to the world with ease. Efficient and fast services in processing goods. One of the major reason for recession in Nigeria in the 80's was the port.

Most goods were jam packed there and they couldn't get to the owner on time, and because of "Nigeria oil money curse" where most goods were imported, inflation become noticeable and unnecessary recession sets in and the remedy was another poison called SAP(Structural Adjustment Program) ..that problem was never resolved, because Nigeria relocated her seat of power to Abuja shortly after the SAP program failure despite not producing anything tangible IBB devalued the currency for no known economic benefits because IMF tasked them to devalue it...and the Benin republic port became the easiest route to import goods into Nigeria. They solved the issue of jammed ports for us and most goods through the Benin port were smuggled into Nigeria.

Nigerians started importing used cars, especially Peugeot brand from France through the Benin port which extended to other goods like frozen foods, provisions, rice and second hand clothes. Nigerian were never used to second hand goods before now.

Benin survival is tied to the revenue they get from the port whose target is the Nigerian market. Do you know that all imports duties and taxes are duly paid for every goods imported through Benin to their government their...Only on the Nigerian side that they smuggle.

Because of the endemic corruption in the Nigeria port, you hardly get through unscathed whether you are planning to import or export goods. You cannot export perishable goods through Nigerian port without incurring unnecessary expenses. No serious person imports or export through the Nigeria port.
