How Can Make My Parent Understand My Situation. by Jagabanmonerry(m): 11:34pm On Sep 17, 2021
Good evening guys.. Pls I need you guys take on this issue giving me a serious concerns. I am 31 yrs of age, also the first born. I have been in Lagos since 2008 after my secondary School. I am not a lazy type, I have done a factory job, security and to name few. The only achievement I had is my ND program which since 2016, I have been finding it difficult to run my HND due to family issue. I am not married yet but have a son in my care and my parent too. The main issue here is that both mom and dad has been calling me on phone to leave Lagos which I understand their point of view but the truth is I don't have any other place to go. They now see me as someone who is not listen to them. To be frank, I will like to relocate but have no one to talk to. I really can't go to their base in Ekiti. This is never something I pray for. How can I make my parents understand that I am not try to disobey them, just that the plan aren't forthcoming. Bcoz to relocate, you need someone who will be ready n happy to accommodate you for awhile n also a place to work is very important too.

Are your parents still in charge of footing your bills or something? Is that why they are still planning your life for you at 31? undecided

You want to relocate because there is a job waiting for you somewhere in Ekiti or they want you to relocate as in go back to the village to live with them, your parents that is? undecided

You are 31 with a son, shouldn't your priority be to become a better person for the sake of your son, instead of worrying whether you are obeying your parents or not? You don pass that age wey parents go dey tell you how to run your life abeg! undecided

You crossed over into adulthood over a decade ago. It is hightime you take possession of the responsibility that goes with that milestone. undecided

Someone said if we all listen to our parents, we will never achieve greatness because no parent will be able to withstand watching their child pay the painful price of greatness.

Change strategy and work smarter not harder. Repeat if it fails.

You are 31 and are supposed to be making decisions for yourself. And not your parents still doing that for you.

Please take charge of your life and make them understand that you are a man now and the decision to stay or leave is yours.

If you relocate, do they have something for you to do at the new place? If yes, then try and consider it... If no, then U have no reasons to relocate..

And please stop looking at OND in a condescending way, it is an achievement... u went for it and achieved it without dropping out.. only that the country has many graduates and no job... keep on pushing.. God will Crown your efforts with success some day..

Hmmmmm....simple stuff

Option one: tell them no firmly. If they keep talking, ask them to get you a job and accommodation before you move.

Option two: If they continue to argue about 1 above and you have time in your hands,go and holiday with them for 2 weeks. Ensure you dont take beyond your transport fare and a few change for emergency eat out. Then proceed to be a total leech for that timeline. Do not do major chores in the house and eat double portions always....you sef will see.

Good luck o....you really need to go learn how to be a man of your own without having your parents breath down your neck. May God bless your hustle.

Start making your own choices for the betterment of your life and that of your son's.

Is your son with you where you are or where your parents are (in Ekiti)?

Simply give them all the reasons you cited above of why it's not going to be possible to do their bidding for you to move down to Ekiti. If they insist, then lock up. But make sure you got great plans to prove to them that you rejected their suggestion for a good reason. Not that you'll just continue in the same vein that made them suggest the idea of moving in the first place.

With prayers and perseverance, I believe God will change your story for the better.

Still with her biological Mom, but by God willings I foresee his needs. Presently here with me for Holiday.

In your post above, you said your son is in your care and in your parent's. You didn't mention his mother being in the picture. Your story isn't clear. All the best, though.

How can your parents dictate what you do at this age? Oga, grow up and bare your responsibilities.

What I mean in my care is I am always available to do my responsibility.

Go and visit them
Listen to them and understand what they are talking
Tell them what you feel about it
