He made a rash decision when he was 2 v 1 before Saint Maximam released the pass for the goal scorer. All he had to do was to stand tall and put himself in a position to recover if the pass was made but he went full FRED and made a stupid tackle.

Against mid table and small teams that sit deep, Matic should be the only DM. Let’s have two attacking midfielders. Pogba Bruno and VDB should play.

Of course, against the big boys, we should have McTom and Matic or McFred.

English refereeing needs an inquiry. They couldn't look at the monitor on any of the three Ronaldo penalty calls but called one on Shaw for something they said they wouldn't this year. He's a yard away and stretching for the ball, should he just not have hands?

If Varane was trying to stand tall and saint Maximam had shot and scored instead of releasing the pass, we would still slander Varane for not closing him down early enough/ trying to mark a player without the ball.

2 v 1 situations would always favor the attacking side.

Like you said, i think Varane has being okay so far - not spectacular per se.
