If I were earning ₦400k, I'd relocate to a flat where I can pay at maximum, ₦250k yearly (and that's because I want to have a family). A two bedroom flat is okay for a start.

I'd use my first monthly to pay it off, doing a little refurbishment too. I like to buy foodstuff in bulk so I am definitely going to spend up to ₦80k for it. If I don't have a freezer, I wouldn't bother buying goods that are too perishable. I would save for a freezer and a generator together.

I have to buy the major things so as to enable me begin to save. Sorry I didn't tell you, I don't save. I actually invest. I'd start up sth else with the saving..rather than leaving it lying adamant.

U can't get 2 bedroom flat in the least of places in abuja. A one bedroom in kubwa now goes for 400k to 500k. Same in lugbe, nyanya etc. These are outskirts and not expensive areas

1. Rent - 84,000 monthly (average 2 bed) My advice: relocate to a nice apartment where you pay at most, #500,000 per annum. There are good places in Lagos where you will get good value for your money in Lagos and be glad. Good neighborhood for the price.

My advice: You must be an hotcake to be paying in two places for security. Estate security and for your apartment again. My friend, leave that particular estate and move to where your total security can be paid in one place and not in different places.

My advice: this might be necessary and it is not a bad budget for a month.

My advice: well, from my opinion of the nature of work you do, this might be a wasteful spending. Someone earns about 400k monthly which is suppose to be a very good salary, but his expenses despite frugal is not cutting it.. he has been advised on marriage countless times, but he does not just know how to support such. He tries to make people see reason as to why the "big boy tag" does not fit because he cant see it at all..

- his job prevents me from cooking and he really does not know how to cook either, really really bad at cooking.
- he stays in an apartment of 1m/annum, which is somewhat not luxury I think.

Rent - 84,000 monthly (average 2 bed)
Security - 5,000 monthly
Estate security - 3,000 monthly
Cleaner - 5,000 monthly
Dstv - 9,500 monthly
Auto Fueling - 50,000 monthly
Auto servicing - 7,000 (3mths projection)
Auto miscellenous/charges - 10,000 (tolls,pr)
Generator fuel/service - 30,000 monthly
Laundry - 10,000 monthly
Feeding - 77,500 (2,500/day)
Hangout/chills/network - 30,000 (7,500/week)
Clothing/wears/accessories - 10,000 (monthly)
Electricity bill - 10,000(monthly)
Gifts - 10,000(monthly- No wife/No GF)
Home maintenance/personal care- 10,000 (monthly)
Healthcare miscellenous - 5,000 (monthly)

How in the world would he explain to people that he does not have. He is an introverted character and a very frugal in finances. He didnt not factor in furnishing et all.. he has no school fees and multiple mouths to feed.

The problem I see here is that the person in question is living life in correlation with his earnings. He needs define a certain percentage of his monthly income that is to be set aside for savings. What's left after that can then be used as running cost. There are a few things in that list that can either be completely obliterated or cut down further.

Probably someone who plans to end up poor would budget like this.

First move to a smaller apartments, use the old one for air bnb.

Buy and cook your own food on weekends and stack them in freezer, you warm and eat during the week days. This will reduce your feeding expenses as well.

What sort of generator service takes up 30k monthly outside fuelling, you need to change the gen , get something smaller to run major items when you have no power.

Your cost of Landry is crazy man,that cost in 6months will get you a good washing machine duh!..

Next thing is build capacity to earn more money, outside salary and also invest in good assets.

Many people here earn way lower than this and still have bought lands, support family , further their education and invested .

Don't spend all your earnings on consumption ,cos in few years you'd wonder where all the money went to

There are married couples who survive (how ever they "survive" on less than 100K/month (family income) . . . not actually a good thing, but they manage . . .

OTOH, ₦400K is just a manageable salary -- you can't live "the good life" (Nigerian/American dream) on ₦400K/month. You need a "minimum" of ₦2m/month to do that, sadly.

The whoever in question just needs to realize he hasn't "arrived" yet -- actually he his no where near that. What should he do? He should accept that ₦400K na "manageable salary", then he should start living like a hustler, saving for investments so he can earn more, going forward -- it is not going to be easy.

Rent is the biggest necessary expense if you live in Abuja, Lagos, or ph.

I cannot give you a breakdown of my weekly feeding expenses. However, your wife is definitely cashing out heavily on you. Wives always do that. Go to market and get the price of food items.

One week is 7 days. Only 7 days! No where in Nigeria is food items that expensive. Something is definitely wrong somewhere.

Do you eat at home or you just drop whatever you like and tell wify to manage or add to it while you go out there to eat well cooked food.

A loaf of bread is 550 naira. A family of 5 will manage 1 every morning, that's our 3k from the 25k weekly feeding. What about milk and chocolate for tea. WhaT is left after deducting arround 5k for breakfast weekly.

Many in the USA and other developed countries earn just around that. Check the stats. Many Americans have to take night jobs and several side hustles but still earn less than 2k dollars. Mind the fact that a reasonable portion of those earning go to tax

The point is that your 2k dollar benchmark is just quixotic. Many families live fine in Nigeria on 100k or less. Some families live on less than 50k and they are just ok.

Let's be modest and humble with our estimations. It will help. If you earn big, know that some people earn small and are fine. Nothing like "ideal" when it comes to earning...
