I earn 120k monthly as a java developer.
I live with my wife and baby in a beautiful 2bedroom apartment where I pay 180k yearly. I was able to save up from this salary to get a Nigerian used Honda Accord and I'm still able to save 30k monthly. My wife earns 40k monthly and she dies 20k contribution month with 10people.
With 400k monthly, my wife doesn't need to work again.
I will pay my wife salary of 100k every month.
Please cut your coat according to your size ooo

What I can talk about this op is that he lack financial intelligence.when you lack this intelligence such kind of lifestyle it shall result to. This op is living to be poor not to be rich, though people can see he's flamboyant life but with time the real result life of him shall manifest.

Depends on the industry. For a consultant in say a big4, he wont say much from that money. I have been there and I can tell you cutting too much corners to "save" will cost him his career in some industries.

Good thing is he can make 2-3x that amount in a few years if he invests in himself

I'm interested in investing in oneself. Can you teach me?

Depends on the number of batteries, the Kva of the inverter and what you want it to carry.

Mine cost be 220 around last year August but should have gone up now.

You think two bedroom in V/I is N1m?

OP must be living in Yaba, Ajah, Surulere axis.

Housing is very expensive in Lagos that's why I am wondering what a bachelor is doing with two bedroom flat.
2 bedroom in V1 is like 3 to 5 million naira a year in rent.

Makes sense.

Lagos is overrated, abeg. An elder friend I know earns ₦1.3m somewhere in Lagos. He couldn't beat the transportation thing. He had to take a loan to buy an SUV of ₦3.9m...although he has paid the loan completely. Another factor came up; traffic congestion.

Lagos no just easy.

Whether Lagos is overrated or not is not the issue. Will you live in Sango if your job is in Ikoyi or Victoria Island area? Most landlords in Sango that work in ikoyi or Victoria Island area doesn’t find it easy. Most of them rent a room close to their job to make life easier for them

forget that inverter thing. its for powering small things like lightbulbs, shaver, fan etc. unless you just want to do it on an industrial level and buy like 10 200,000MAH batteries and then an industrial size inverter. all that unit will run you close to 4 million naira. then with that much power you can power freezer and fridge and maybe even AC

Hi, don't be bothered by what people are saying here. Take care of your family as you feel is OK for you. 100k monthly for four people is very OK esp if you are eating good food. In fact, if you don't spend any other miscellaneous cash asides this every month, and your wife does not complain of being cash strapped, then you're doing well.

Most of you on this thread have succeeded in making me feel my wife is not prudent or is not telling me the truth about feeding expenses.

U can't get 2 bedroom flat in the least of places in abuja. A one bedroom in kubwa now goes for 400k to 500k. Same in lugbe, nyanya etc. These are outskirts and not expensive areas

You are tell me these as though I haven't been to Abuja.

It depends where you stay, as someone said though.

why should the wife be the cleaner?? lol. You people seems to assume wives are baggage but they actually add to the family income if you knew how to chose. A man earning 400k should know how to get a wife earning half of his salary. They could then pool their resources together for quality living.

Don't look at it from that angle. No matter how he does it, at a point the wife will still have to clean some things.

I've used it for up to a year now without issues. I live in a two bedroom house, it powers a socket in each room plus bulbs and fans. Same in the sitting room. It doesn't power my freezer or fridge though it can power it but the energy consumption is off the roof.

I never use more than 15% of the energy at a time though. I only power a room at a time.

And I have a rechargeable fan that the inverter can also power and a blender.

It doesn't power AC sha.

Thanks for this. I quite appreciate

Someone earns about 400k monthly which is suppose to be a very good salary, but his expenses despite frugal is not cutting it.. he has been advised on marriage countless times, but he does not just know how to support such. He tries to make people see reason as to why the "big boy tag" does not fit because he cant see it at all..

- his job prevents me from cooking and he really does not know how to cook either, really really bad at cooking.
- he stays in an apartment of 1m/annum, which is somewhat not luxury I think.

Rent - 84,000 monthly (average 2 bed)
Security - 5,000 monthly
Estate security - 3,000 monthly
Cleaner - 5,000 monthly
Dstv - 9,500 monthly
Auto Fueling - 50,000 monthly
Auto servicing - 7,000 (3mths projection)
Auto miscellenous/charges - 10,000 (tolls,pr)
Generator fuel/service - 30,000 monthly
Laundry - 10,000 monthly
Feeding - 77,500 (2,500/day)
Hangout/chills/network - 30,000 (7,500/week)
Clothing/wears/accessories - 10,000 (monthly)
Electricity bill - 10,000(monthly)
Gifts - 10,000(monthly- No wife/No GF)
Home maintenance/personal care- 10,000 (monthly)
Healthcare miscellenous - 5,000 (monthly)
Internet data - 10,000 (monthly)
Recharge card - 16,000 monthly (500 daily)

Total = N395,200
Savings - 7,800

How in the world would he explain to people that he does not have. He is an introverted character and a very frugal in finances. He didnt not factor in furnishing et all.. he has no school fees and multiple mouths to feed.

Mr Poster. For you to give such breakdown ehn tells me you are the Man in question.

But it's all good. I also know of a guy who lives in Lekki and pays rent of 1 Million Naira per year. Though he is a boss running his father's company being the only son.

Someone once said that "The Money person dey make for Lagos, dey finish for Lagos" undecided

From your breakdown, I think it's best to look for a cheaper Apartment. Though I'm sure you took that Apartments becos of it's close proximity to work. Most people do that to cut cost and reduce stress.

1) Getting an Apartment where you won't pay as much might just be your best bet so you can save.

2) DSTV Subscription of N9,500 is too much if you ask me. How many times do you watch TV in a day? How many stations do you watch at once? The moment you realise that DSTV Owners are Business People and are out to just make money of Subscribers, the better.

My advice, Subscribe for a lesser package becos you don't watch it all the time. Your money keeps wasting on big packages. Fall in Love with the channels on the lesser packages.
Las Las TV no dey end.

3) Invest in a Washing Machine. Most Washing Machine today washes and drys at the same time. You will be glad you did.

4) You said Gifts 10,000 Monthly (No Wife, No Girlfriend). Well, this shows you are a very loving and caring person with a good heart. Getting Gifts for Random People is good but PLEASE STOP IT.

These random people do not care about you. I know you are trying to be nice but kindly stop. They will just take ur gift and forget you. The real question is, how many of them send you gifts monthly?

4) Electricity 10,000 Monthly. Are you using Prepaid? If so, try and off some appliances when you are not at home or even while going to bed. Look for a way to manage your units inorder not to spend that much on electricity monthly.
If it's just from NEPA. It is well.

Kindly take my honest advice.

I wish you the best in Life.

Love and Light.

chatinent:

He lives a pennywise-man-foolish lifestyle. How can you be paying rents almost thrice your monthly net income?

Just look at the whole expenses listed there!

If I were earning ₦400k, I'd relocate to a flat where I can pay at maximum, ₦250k yearly (and that's because I want to have a family). A two bedroom flat is okay for a start.

I'd use my first monthly to pay it off, doing a little refurbishment too. I like to buy foodstuff in bulk so I am definitely going to spend up to ₦80k for it. If I don't have a freezer, I wouldn't bother buying goods that are too perishable. I would save for a freezer and a generator together.

I have to buy the major things so as to enable me begin to save. Sorry I didn't tell you, I don't save. I actually invest. I'd start up sth else with the saving..rather than leaving it lying adamant.

It's not a must to live a big boy life!

Look at the figures he uses to flex. To spend on top drink and woman!

So e no fit wash cloth or save up for a washing machine and drier?

Data for ₦10k? E should kuku send a CV to PornHub. Abi free WiFi no dey workplace?

Recharge card for ₦15k? Sure this uncle want to live long in this life? Even Elon Musk doesn't recharge ₦15k.

Cleaner ₦5k? En hand dey pain am? Why can't he marry and send this to his wife instead?

In fact, let me stop analysing. How old is his stupidity if I may ask?

Tell him to use the savings of ₦7800 to buy GO90 and Snipper and drink! He doesn't deserve to waste the oxygen others need. Better still, make una call Cele people to flog out the Aso-Rock demon in him.

It's nice to cloth your clothes according to your cloth size.

No go dey compete with people who depend on their family when your family depends on you!

He can do without DSTV
Clothing can be done quarterly or twice a year.
Hangouts can be cheaper

Mastering one's finances is not an exercise in eternity, it can be done in 90 days or less depending on how badly a person wants to turn their situation around.

Will you advise this OP to get married now? On the unreliable hope that his wife will be a better finance manager? And what if she's not?

Should he add a wife and baby to his list of expenses, when he hasn't figured out how to make 400k work in his favour?

I quoted the OP and gave my feedback.

Dude is truly not ready to marry; he needs to be financially intelligent first.
