Okorocha who has been clamouring for the reduction in the cost of governance by reducing the number of Senators to one for each State and three House of Representatives Members from each state, however, said the take home of the Senators was not that much, compared to their status and the cost of living.It is only in Nigeria that politicians attach importance to themselves in serving the people otherwise Okorocha won’t be talking about status relative to senators. How are they different from every other ordinary person walking down the road? Until we remove the glamor in public office we will continue to incur more expenses for this set of people all in the name of status. In the UK, you see members of parliament riding bicycles and taking the subway to work but here, it must be the latest and most expensive SUV. |
