Why Do Kids From Wealthy Homes Study Very Unpopular Courses? by CrystalSpark(m): 12:25pm On Sep 24, 2021
This question has always been on my mind and just now I’m reading, again, that the daughter of President Buhari went to the UK to study Photography. grin grin

Not just her! There’s a noticeable trend even in Naija; a kid from a very wealthy home may go to a university to study music, or catering, or something that isn’t “popular and mainstream”.

The rest of us from not so rich homes will kill ourselves with mechanical, chemical, petro-chemical, electromagnetic engineering

Kids from poor homes (not all of them) often choose courses they feel everyone is into and hope they will get a stable job e.g Business Admin, Mass Communications, Law - but the truth is, the more common (popular) your course, the less monetary value or rewards. like a charge/bail lawyer or "Banker" (clerk) - unpopular STEM courses often carry better wages and rewards especially if you become an entreprenuer

For me I think kids in poor homes most times don't always choose their courses unlike those in rich homes. I am not saying there are not kids from poor family who chose their courses, but it's just that a poor student will have to think about making it in life before choosing the course. As in the course must or should guarantee easy employment.

Juxtaposed against students from rich families, you get to see that they (rich ones) choose their courses out of curiosity, true interest, the desire to explore the world. Their families having been well off too don't need them to read a lucrative course per se cos they have seen the world and know you can be whatever you want to be without poverty.

Bottomline is, rich kids have a certain carte blanche unavailable to poor kids...

Most of them don't have plans to work in Nigeria as the courses they studied are not applicable here. Also, why would they need their certificate to work in their father's company when they can easily be given am appointment or employment there?

Most times they tend to have their own establishment and with their father's connection they can easily grow their brand. Kiki Osinbajo, Chelsea Clinton e.t.c. all enjoyed their father's connection.

The jobless president son, long before he graduated already crashed a 50m power bike, he actually didn't need to go to school or study any serious course, cos tax payers money dey for him to spend, same as kids from wealthy him, many of them go to school just to acquire that certificate, they won't be going about looking for jobs, cos jobs they connections already waiting for them

In my opinion, It's because they ain't worried about getting a job or not.

They do what they like, study what they want or are passionate about without worrying whether it will pay them or not.

They follow their heart while the poor masses follow the money.

In my opinion, this is the difference.

They don't need a degree to be successful. The future is already planned out for them.

The ones who struggle with professional courses end up working for them, living paycheck to paycheck.

In as much we all have issues with Mr
Buhari, we should be objective with our opinion. What about Otedola's daughter that read History of art in her UG?
