Quick question, how many percent of Algeria's budget is spent on defense? How many percent of it is recurrent expenditure?

I'll also like to know this.

We know Algeria is owing a whooping $80bn.
Their population is less than 45m so debt per capita is high.
They also dont have Nigeria's age demographics that supports easy debt repayment.

Some of us have written a lot about Algerian procurement policy. They seem to want to compensate for poor military strategies, doctrine and training by buying large numbers of weaponry.

Military budget is Around 10 billions/ per year this last years .

For 2021 the operating budget of the ministries of algeria is around 39 billions $ , only operating budget ( there is another budget for imports )

From this budget , 2021 defense ministry is around 9 billions $ (9.4 billions in many source) around 6.5 % of the GDP , and according to my calculations on the 2021 state budget (on the pic) thats 26.72 % of the budget and its only for the minstry of defense (the army)

The minstry of Interior, local communities and land use planning which includes police services have their own budget . Thats 4.23 billions $

To give you an idea, The first non security ministry in the budget is the Ministry of National Education with only 5,63 billions $ , followed by health ministry with 3 billions $

Nigerian army buys 15% stake in Proforce Nigeria.

This is the biggest story from this week, an important story for security in Nigeria and growth of Nigeria's defence industry.

With this stake, the Nigerian army has demonstrated it is committed to the growth of Proforce Defence, and the larger defence industry.

This buy in also ensures that the Nigerian army would patronize Proforce, not just for new vehicles, but the MRO of old vehicles and the training of personnel.

The Nigerian army also placed orders for additional MRAPs from Proforce Defence.

Seriously undecided , algerian army ? poor training , military strategies , doctrine ?
according to whom? and compared to whom?

There is not many in africa that spend as much as algeria in training and large exercises , did I not share here a lot of algerian exercises each year ? did I not share here algerian navy ships , air force aicraft , army units exercises all around the world in differents countries with different armies ?

.check some algerian exercises , the budget and ammunitions spent in just one of this maneuvers could suffice some armies on the continent for a whole year . And you're telling me that they are poorly trained ?

Super Tucano, the Nigerian Air Force & Counter Insurgency.

Many commentors in Nigeria's public space have branded the Super Tucano as the game changing aircraft. The aircraft to end all wars.

While the Super Tucano brings new capabilities to the Nigerian Air Force, most of the commentary we've seen fly around in Nigeria have been over exaggerated.

A brief history on the A-29 Super Tucano. EMB-314 Super Tucano is an enhanced version of the EMB-312 Tucano trainer aircraft that features faster speed and higher altitude capabilities. The prototype of the Super Tucano first flew in 1992. Both Tucano and Super Tucano have been developed and built by Embraer of Brazil.

The A-29 Super Tucano relies heavily on US produced and Canadian parts, so it makes sense that Embraer signed an agreement with SNC for the aircrafts to be built in America.

The main missions of the aircraft are border patrol and counter-insurgency operations. In addition to flight training.

There are five hardpoints for carrying weapons, and the aircraft is capable of holding a maximum external load of 1,500kg. The aircraft is armed with two wing-mounted 12.7mm machine guns with a rate of fire of 1,100 rounds a minute and is capable of carrying general-purpose bombs and guided air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles.

The A-29 is credited for ending the insurgency in Colombia by many analyst, but this isn't entirely true since there still an Insurgency, Drug production problem in Colombia.

So while the A-29 Super Tucano is an important tool in fighting an Insurgency, it is not a game changer like pseudo Twitter analyst in Nigeria's twitter space would have some people believe.

It enhances the capability already present in the Nigerian Air Force, and multiplies them.

The A-29 ensures that the Nigerian Air Force has additional platforms that can fight at night, loiter and conduct ISR, and launch precision guided munitions, reducing collateral damages and ensuring a higher target elimination.

It is an important asset to have, but it is NO Game Changer!!

If I may ask, does the above budget include infrastructure spending?

Of the 39 billion dollars, if 9 billion goes to the military, Education 5 billion and health 3 billion, what percentage is spent on Infrastructure and Social investment programmes?

İ don't think it is a money issue. The Wing Loong is relatively cheap. It is adoption lag. Nigeria will still buy a large number if there are no issues

You will need far more than that for 24/7 surveillance of the smallest region in Nigeria not to talk about the whole country.

As for the Tucanos, while it won't win the war, it will greatly tilt the balance in favor of the military as there will be more assets to provide CAS and the airforce will now find it easier to take out the enemy's guntrucks which is the backbone of the force projection of the enemy. If properly utilized, fewer and fewer guntrucks will be returning with the terrorists whenever they attack any military formation.

For comparison, Nigeria is spending $11 billion on the Lagos-Calabar rail alone, not to talk about the revamping of refineries, the Kano-Maradi rail and other projects.
AKK gas pipeline project at about $3 billion too.

"The Combatmate multi-purpose combat vehicle, developed by the Polish WB Group in cooperation with the South African company Bruisertech, had its premiere at the XXIX International Defense Industry Exhibition (MSPO) in Kielce, Poland.

The vehicle is based on the armored, mine-resistant Bruiser 212 and will be offered in a reconnaissance version for uniformed services and as a carrier for unmanned systems.

According to the WB Group, it is a modular platform, cost-effective, easily adaptable to the user's needs, equipped with solutions of the Polish group. The presented vehicle was integrated with the FONET vehicle communication system, the TOPAZ battlefield management system and the COMP @ N and PERAD radio communication systems.

The variant of the car presented in Kielce is also equipped with a stabilized, remotely controlled Arex ZSU-03 weapon station, equipped with a 12.7 mm large-caliber M2HB machine gun, four smoke grenade launchers and reusable Warmate-TL (Tube Launch) loitering ammunition launchers..."

Good clearance;another excellent Saffa MRAP which leads me to a logical question: how many MRAP makers exactly are there? I can name OTT,Paramount,DCD,Denel and Milkor and there should be at another 10 building off prevous success of predecessors. At what point does market saturation come into play?

Simple logic , Do you know why most armies dont do a lot of live exercises ? It's because of the hudge cost of ammunitions and maintenance. Training cost a lot of money

Do you know how much cost one hour fly of a jet during traning ? How mmuch for exemple cost a 3M-54E Club-S missile fired from a kilo 636 M submarine ( that's 1.2 million dollars per missile) , or a R77 missile ( around 600.000 dollars/ per missile ) , the RBS-15 Mk3 Antiship Missile that you can see fired few seconds from algerian meko A200 exercises that's $3.5 to 4 millions / per missile , ATGM , bombs , rockets, iskander missiles, air defense missiles ect...

all this stuffs you see passing quickly few seconds in algerian exercises videos , Thats tens millions dollars for each exercise . And why do you think algerian army waste so much for each of its exercise ? If its not for better training for its soldiers .

So yes , if You have a soldier in Anti tank squad , on a frigate ,an air defense system for exemple , that do a lot of live fire exercise each year , fire a lot of missiles each year in live exercises , and another that maybe shoot one or two missiles or maybe never fired a missile in all his active service , i will tell you that the first is well better trained .

4 of the 6 A29 super tucanos arrived Glasgow from Iceland yesterday, they are: 19-2041,19-2042,19-2043,19-2044. The other two seem to be delayed due to technical issues.

As it should be, especially infrastructures such as those Nigeria is currently building, they will eventually boost the economy and lead to increase revenue generation but rather than providing these infrastructures for free or at subsidized rates, they should be monetized in a way that the capital invested in them will be recouped within a short period. It does not make any sense at all for the government to be subsidizing train fares or allowing free passages on highways. Government should also desist from fixing and subsidizing the cost of fuel and electricity. In fact government should be making profits from them so as to provide funds for other sectors such as security.

Let's assume the government collects #200 on Private cars and #500 on public transport and trucks, the amount the government will make on federal roads within Lagos and on the Lagos-Ibadan highway in one month would be enough to buy reasonable quantity of APC/MRAP or tanks. Now imagine how much they can make across the country. It will even help in reducing carbon emissions as more people will prefer to use public transports for many of their trips.

The government(federal and state)has finally seen the economic sense of cutting spending on citizen consumerism, the result of the oil boom of the '70s and '80s and successive government strong socialist leanings.

High oil prices has had zero impact on FAAC allocations which has hovered around ₦600Bn for the past 7 months

NNPC has been deducting the cost of subsidies from the funds they are suppose to be remitting to the consolidated revenue accounts as "under recovery" fuel subsidies do not exist in the 2021 budget

https://www.thecable.ng/subsidy-payment-nnpc-to-deduct-n170bn-from-remittance-to-faac-in-august/amp

After much political theatrics, the fiscal pressure on their states have made state governors come to their senses

https://www.proshareng.com/news/Oil%20&%20Gas/Nigeria-Governors--Forum-Okay-Full-Deregulation-of-Petrol--to-Hover-Around-N385-per-Litre/57299

It makes no economic sense spending monkey on electricity and fuel subsidies with the kind of infrastructural deficit we had, countries are leaving us behind

Well searching in all financial data will be a headhache for me , the Algerian state signed budget for 2021 was around 80 billions ( half for operating expenses budget (39 billions $) and the other half for Equipements budget .

When you see the list of ministry operating exependes budget ( on the pic) you will find a lot of ministry

Justice, Finances. Energy Energy transition and renewable energies, Religious affairs, National Education, Higher education and scientific research. Vocational training and education , Culture and arts, Youth and sports. Digitization and statistics, Post and telecommunications , National solidarity, family, Industry, Mines , Agriculture and rural development ,Housing, town planning and the city, Trade,Communication, Public works , Transport, Water resources ,Tourism, crafts and family work , Health, population and hospital reform , Labor, employment and social security , Environment,Fishing and fish production, Pharmaceutical industry

Each one have its own infrastructure spending and investisments programs . And also have a part in the other 40 billions $ Equipements budget .

its difficult (for me) to find how much each ministry will get or sharing a global Infrastructure and Social investment programmes .

But the important stat is that the defense ministry get the big part of the cake around 25 % of the budgets . Some are unhappy with it and say we should waste less money on military field and more on other sectors , when others will tell you that without defense and security spending we will finish detroyed like libya with no economy at all or budget to spend
