What a stupid coverage is this by ariseTV? Anyone can build houses anywhere by his/her perogative, nothing can government do to prevent this? Some will claim it is their heritage land, some will buy so cheap with expectation that development will soon reach there. We can't continue blaiming government for some people's stupidity 1 Like |

MajorOvakporaye: Abia is a bigger slum than Lagos, our dear Lagos. If your governors put in one tenth of the efforts of Lagos state governors, yeebos will remain in their villages and the social amenities and infrastructure in Lagos state would not be overstretched to accommodate 22 million people. 1 Like |

You shouldn't think too far about this...the NGO will go to foreign donors to get the the money and donate less than %5 to the community. Another batch will come around and do same...go back to all the community they had visited in the past...it has always gone back to the condition they met it. 1 Like |

christopher123:I'm telling you. Same thing in Ibadan. Alaadorin–Yemetu Beere Mokola Apata(Akpata) Mapo Oke Aremo Dugbe Ekodola and its environment are Yoruba dominated brown roof slums. You will only see one or two Igbos in those places. Then go to nice places in same Ibadan like Old and New Bodija Phase 1 & 11, Ikolaba Layout, Aerodromes GRA, Eleyele Estate, Bashorun, Ojoo and Ologuneru areas, you will see where Igbos prefer staying despite the high cost of house rent and NEPA bills there. The issue is that Yorubas don't like living costly lifestyle and they prefer those shanty areas provided that nothing stops them from enjoying their Amala and Ewedu local delicacy. Igbos spend huge amount in house rent. That's why you hardly see Yorubas in the East. Even in Onitsha where rent is relatively cheap compared to most cities in Nigeria, an average Yoruba blood will still not agree to live there. In all, I think Yorubas live stress-free and cheap life. 3 Likes 1 Share |

emperor863:Shut up and stop talking rubbish. You will hardly see Igbos in all those shanties and mosquito-infested areas. Igbos spend huge amount in house rent just for comfortability and better living. Go to those areas in Lagos, Ogun and Ibadan and check the number of Igbos there. Access to seaport and wharf for importation is the reason Igbos move there for business. Most of those business men have their main or branch offices and warehouse in Onitsha. People move close where there's proximity to their source of livelihood. |

computer0810: Rightly said. Moreover, if you check Lagos State map, those riverbanks were not stated as residential just riverbanks. People there mixed of Yoruba, ignore and minute other tribes. However, most people living in those areas from Mile 12 to Majidun along the Ikorodu road are very poor. Like you said: fishermen, manual dredgers and artisans., Moving away from there can only happen through forced ejection. |
