In addition, I also think we should dedicate some time to study a little bit of statistics as it helps in understanding how these stacks work.

You won't believe it was just yesterday that I fully understood the mathematics behind regression.
Lol... data science is a journey where you never stop learning.

Hi! Personally, I learned to work with databases on my own. Many people think that these topics are too complicated for self-study, but for me, the most important thing is to choose the right materials. For example, https://codingsight.com/understanding-of-sql-server-upper-function/ I highly recommend it. It describes all the basics in simple language. I recommend you to read other articles on their site. There are tons of quality materials on other subjects and programming languages there too.

Good Morning Bosses. I've been an ardent follower of this thread from day One, and I've learnt enough information to kick-start my Career in Data Science (I have HND in SLT Physics with Electronics option) which by the way is completely useless in Nigeria anyways.

Unavailability of laptop; which is an indispensable tool had been an obstacle for a very long time. Tho I have managed to save 100k to get one by the end of this month hopefully.

So bottom line is I'd like to seek the assistance of the Masters in this field, what brand and capacity should I opt for that is efficient for A Data Analyst #1 P.s: This is actually important because I had to struggle for 10months to save that much, I can't afford buying a scrap it might take me another 10 months to save another

Can I get anyOne that will mentor me through the cause of the learning process at least #2.

This is very important because I'm opting for self study, I can't afford a paid programme at the moment.
Thank you.
If you can be of help please don't ignore.
N.B: Any learning resources or paid courses that can be of help will be really appreciated, I can actually shuttle between Lagos and Ogun State for that.

Since you ain't financially buoyant, asking you to watch videos online is out of the equation. I can help you by sharing with you PDFs for any type of course you want. From learning python, to learning data analysis using python from Wes McKinney himself (Google who he is), to machine learning using python, deep learning using python.

Also, I earlier shared a Udemy channel with this thread where you can watch videos to learn online if you have the resources to do so.

@Ejiod and other gurus in the house.
Please I need your advise...

I don't have a computer science/statistics/Mathematics background at undergraduate level.

I studied Accounting and Finance(2:1) and also a chartered certified Accountant(ACA, ACCA, ACMA, CGMA).

I have a very strong passion for data science which is driving me crazy, this made me apply for an MSc in Data Science and Analytics.

I just secured an admission(MSc) in Teesside University, Middlesbrough, UK (commencing Jan 2022).

But now I'm beginning to develop cold feet as to whether I can do it considering the fact I have I have no prior computer or programming knowledge and I'm getting a tad worried.

What do you advise?
Can I study it at MSc level without prior computer/programming/mathematics knowledge at undergraduate level?? (Though, if there's something I know about myself, its the fact that I'm smart, and can learn).

Please I need your input/insight on this.

PS:
Pardon me if this issue has been addressed before, I just stumbled on this thread tonight, and I've followed through to page8, and didn't come across such.

Start by learning Python. Once you grasp the basics of python solidly, you're 20% done. I have the free version of the book if you have a hard time finding one online.

Please,l want to change a new career and switch job to be a big data analysis ...what step to take, course to learn? For next 6 month before l start job hunting..l need a professiomal advice from a data analyst

Start with SQL (Over 95 per cent of Data Analyst roles require this skill). There are many RDBMS you can use to learn but MySQL is the most common.

Then learn Excel with emphasis on (Look-up and Statistics functions, referencing, conditional formatting, power query for cleaning data, pivot tables for summarizing data, power pivot for modelling and then DAX).

Followed by PowerBI or Tableau: you'll use these tools to visualize the results of your SQL queries. I personally prefer PowerBI as it's more robust in function.

People mention Python a lot, but I've seen many Data Analyst vacancies excluding it in their requirements (emphasis on "Data Analyst"wink). Nonetheless you can add it to your skill set if you want to go the Data Science Route or just for personal development purposes. Learn the basics first and then move on its libraries: Numpy, Pandas, Matplotlib and Seaborn. There's also the Scikit learn library for its machine learning capabilities.

If you can master the first 3, you're job ready: then scale up your knowledge from there.

I'm in the process of changing my laptop, so I'm transferring my files to the new one. Mention me on wednesday/Thursday. I should be done by then, and can send them as compressed files.

I'm a student studying statistics(300l), I've been playing with R and SpSs for some time and I realized some projects requires writing scripts and functions in R .
I've been looking for materials to self study how to build extensions and libraries in R but can't find any. What I've been seeing are just basic commands and functions in R, nothing about arguments and how they relate to an object with a particular data type

Mention me with your email, I'll try to send the ones you can start with for now. I already gave out my old laptop.

When I am a little free tomorrow, I will zip about 6 that might be relevant to you guys and host them online temporarily. I will mention you guys. The total size should be around 100MB. Just make sure you check on your account in the night for my mention. Cheers.

Good Afternoon sir/ma, Thanks for this masterpiece really helpful.

My name is Taylor, a First Class final year student of the university of Lagos currently studying Finance.

Due to covid, Also falling sick twice during my final papers this year, next year will be my sixth year on campus.

I sincerely developed a soft spot for data analysis from the very first day i came across this thread in 2019. I love dealing with numbers trust me.

I love statistics and econometrics a lot but my major problem is getting a mentor and networking with fellow beginners or aspirants to strongly kick start my data analysis career (maybe because i am an introvert lol).

Actually, i have made some progress by kick starting with Excel according to what most professionals here recommended and it has been fun all the way.

I always believe to make learning process easier, faster and interesting for beginners trying to explore a new field. There is a need to have a mentor and network with like minds (beginners) in the field also.

Sadly, i had to put a stop learning Excel due to personal reasons but i am fully back. I will be glad if you or any other professionals on this great platform will be willing to mentor me on the required materials and videos that will be helpful to aid the learning process.

My WhatsApp contact is 08160271832. I am also willing to meet and network with new aspirants also. If you are a serious aspirant also, please don't hesitate to do add up or if there is any group chat for aspirants please kindly add me up too.

God bless you all.
