Our dear Gazzuz also told me to change engine and radiator of my 09 accord gave me a bill of N652k. I was depressed.
But thanks to my awesome technician he fixed everything for less than N100k and car drives smooth and better.

All engines can be fixed. You just need a professional hand.

If the damage affected the Engine block, you must definitely get a new Engine (tokunbo).

The flooding didn't do the damage it was the person that started the car who caused it.

When your car is flooded, remove spark plugs and start it a couple of time to get rid of the water

Tha flood did tha damage Mr. I know everything about knowing nothing.

Tha rods are bent becas tha water in tha engine Willa not compress. Since there is no room for tha rod becas water has taken up tha room Ita needs to move up tha rod isa bent.

Lmao, seriously forget this over hyped mechanics in nairaland like gazzuzz and co. that claim to be professionals. They're lot's of great experienced mechanics everywhere who aren't proud and claim to be professional mechanics like those guys above, but those great jobs far better.

Good job! The major problem with flood vehicles goes beyond the engine repairs. It may take some time, but the electrical components of the car may begin to have issue (8 out of 10 chance that it would). Except for the trained eyes, I tell people to run away from flood damaged cars.

Same thing has happened to my 08' Accord. Some mechs have changed alot of things and Engine still doesnt feel good. Been hearing CHANGE ENGINE. Abeg can i get hold of this your mechanic? Am getting frustrated already.
And sometimes it might be something as simple as an overlooked sensor. My 08 accord too has also been giving me head ache. Looks like the engine want to die. Checked everything and couldn't place the issue, I was already frustrated and felt like throwing it away. Then mechanic decided to check fuel pump and low and behold the filter is completely clogged and even with traces of water in it. So we change the pump and engine run better but still not as it should engine would still not rev beyond 2500rpm before rev limiter cut in and idle is as though engine has 10% life left. Meanwhile I have this portable Bluetooth OBD scanner which I use Everytime to scan my car and it's recently started being up MAP sensor. I googled and showed mechanic the MAP sensor(not like he doesn't know it but doesn't know that's what it is called) told me that sensor is just for engine not to consume fuel nothing else. Well I got sensor myself for 8k fixed it and lo and behold my car just de cruise like aeroplane.

Sometimes in February Honda overheated, the rings fried, a connecting rod bent and some bearing damaged.
Most Mechs told me to change engine including our own Gazzuz.
Buh thank goodness, an Engineer from my workplace fixed it.
I bought a premium ring pair and a connecting rod and volla!

My Honda is driving better than before, some mech told me it will go bad after 3 months, it's October already and the car is giving me joy.

I typed all this cos the guy that fixed it told me the same thing you said "All engines can be fixed"

He said he's ringed a countless vehicles that runs good after six years.

I am a Dangote Transport staff and we've got some exceptional technicians.

Where can we get this kind of technicians??

Yes Na water. Hydrolic can crush ah car so isa water. Water does not compress so is either tha engine blow or tha rod bend

You don't know how engine and pressure works

That's the drift. It might just be something minor. My Accord doesnt accelerate well from idle, and then i hear some funny sounds when its trying to change gears. I don jus taya as i dey laidis. Wish i could do a lil of what you did to yours.

Periodic oil change not any synthetic oil.

Thank you.

I use Mobil 20W 50. And I change the oil at 2k miles and below sometimes. My engine is still clean, no sludge.

I believe that once your engine still has the thermostat which helps the engine reach operating temperature and you change oil regularly, then you won't have sludge.

See my engine when I opened it some months back.

Where can we get this kind of technicians??
99% of them are bad, the only thing they know is how to remove and replace.

The moment you have problems with door locks, window lifter, wiper engine etc their own is to tell you buy another one where a good technician can repair those things.

Yeah, you're right but not all damage gets to the Cyl Block. Meanwhile all cos those technicians are not thorough breed, they'll tell you to change engine.
If you insist on replacing the affected parts, then they'll change story to "It won't last more than 3 months" oga just change the engine.

All na wash, Dem no sabi work.

What I discovered from my Mech during the repair was; he took his time (2 days) to do physical observations on the engine.
After all the checks, he called me to see for myself, he showed me the engine parts and their conditions.

He said I only need to buy an Original follow come "Tokumbo" rings and Con. Rod cos new parts will cause problems after some time.

And that's where many mech got it wrong, they'll purchase a China made brand new engine parts which will later cause more problems.

I'm not saying other mechs ain't good in their ways but
when it comes to fixing engines/gearbox na there you go know say Kazeem and Taju no be mate..

It's all about experience.

It is penny wise and pound foolish.. Mobil xhp 4liters is roughly 8500k to 9k Naira for 4liters.. Depending how you drive it means you are doing oil change every month.
By the time you add up the cost of labour for Oil change and filter , you are basically spending close to 12k naira every 2k miles.......now if you use full synthetic u can save more depending what brand of synthetic you are using........

Unless you are not telling us something.. Coz nowadays people buy used engine oil to service their cars.... Abi you drive ur car 2k miles for the whole year....

I do mostly city driving and occasional high way.

I live in a small town, that point A to B is always less than 10 miles.

I do cover 2k miles in three months. And sometimes, I don't get to 2k in three months, but I still change the oil.

Works for me. May sound penny wise, pounds foolish to you.

Passed through a similar flood after I left my mechanics workshop. The 2 roads which was the way out was heavily flooded. After the first outlet almost submerged a Lincoln 4x4, I took the other way in my Volvo. Cars parked on both roads to wait for the flood to reduce. Despite the flood almost reaching my window, I drove slowly out and people from other Toyota/other cars were just peeping at me...below is the Volvo I used that day.

NB: Volvo is very strong. I come in Peace. grin grin grin tongue
I like this your Volvo, what model is it. German cars are very strong.

1.You bought an abused vehicle with an engine that has been overhauled more than once. Came with bad crankshafts and bearings.

2. Your engine is inexpensive when comparing .

3. Labour charges would have cost about 25per the value of your engine.

Works for me. May sound penny wise, pounds foolish to you.

So basically let us say you change oil every 3months. Meaning you change oil 4times a year....Let us break down your spending for the year......

Mobil xhp 8500k = 34k for the year
Oil change labour 2k = 8k for the year
Oil filter 2k naira. = 8k for the year

So your total spending on oil changes for the is 50k naira.... This is rough estimates, it should be more ..
My point here is that you can save yourself money and time ......

Now the reason why your engine looks clean is that you don't drive that much . I really doubt 20w50 is the recommended oil for your car . now for you to really damage your engine with 20w50 . You have to drive the car long enough ..

All those short trips here and there will not really damage anything regardless how frequent you change ur oil .... I don't want to go into any further details to avoid unnecessary back and fourth .........

Oga all these is excuse.
Someone fixed it for 100k with labour charges and the car is driving better.

I saved 500k not taking your advice.

Sometimes being able to type on Nairaland isn’t a validation that you know it all.

FYI nothing was wrong with the crankshaft as it was not touched at all.
