How [uote author=Mrford post=106418945] No way to separate the transmission from the engine, so we had to drop the two. [/quote] |

Winlad: To get the transmission of the engine you need to loose the torque converter bolts, you can't do that if you can't turn the engine. |

There are several ways flood water messes up your car 1. Water sucked into engine through exhaust pipe When driving through flood that covers exhaust pipes dnt rev the engine hard. Give accelerator just a gentle tap, switch off AC and go slowly through .. don't speed through if not water could get sucked into engine faster 2. water sucked into engine through air intake filter Know your car and the direction of your cold air intake pipes.. if it's directed lower down ensure to remove it before passing through a large pool of water... most sport version of cars have air intake pipers facing down to allow for more cold air intake .including some German and American cars. some are even customised and stick out right under the front fender .. more air intake is good for speed but very bad during flood .. if flood covers your bonnet then there is high probability water gets into your engine through the air intake system. . This is responsible for most engine blowouts during flood.. 3. Short circuit electrical systems..wires , sensors and battery.. When vehicle stays submerged in flood water for a while..I e vehicle stuck submerged in a location during flood. Rule 1.if car cannot be removed or pushed away. Ensure to remove battery and disconnect terminals to avoid short circuiting that could damage wires, brain box and sensors.. What to do If you drive through a flood and car trips off. Don't crank or try to force start the car. As water could be in your engine .. if you do like the Camry above your engine bends..first check your oil through the dip stick if it is grey in colour then water has mixed .. also open your airfilter . if filter is wet then oil has most likely been sucked into engine . leave the car as it and have it towed or pushed.. drain oil change filter . Change airfilter too if wet.. add fresh oil. Clean plugs , coils and car will start. .. 4.check your tank . If fuel cap is good well closed and vehicle sructure is not compromised through rust .then water should not get into your tank . Water is heavier then fuel so if it gets in . It should sink to bottom of tank. Check to be sure ..better to service injector system than replace or rebuild engine.. 5.Electrical issues associated with flood.. passing through flood won't cause electrical issues to most cars..it should start once wet components get dry .. though some vehicles are just mad shaa.benz and ford owners will testify... but if car stays submerged in water for long i.e in car park while at work during heavy rain or at home and you travelled during flood or stuck in a malls carpark..Most likely electrical systems will short circuit.. ensure to remove battery. Even if u have to enter the water .or rain or get someone to do it for you .(na you know how u value Ur car.. but safety first oo) this is important.. bad sensors can be replaced and reprogrammed.. brain box is easy to get sometimes .. but short circuiting will burn wires get them melted together and that can be really expensive to fix. While some cars never really recover..90% chance that will happen if you leave your car in flood for too long .. remove battery and allow to dry. Then check oil change if bad. Clean plugs and coils ..check airfilter .. and car should start fine.. but if you have any of those German and American money pits then it might get be a lil more complicated. Reprogramming and all .. but at least your engine won't blow or bend. 6 Rapid Expansion and contraction of engine block, valves ,and other components.. Metal breathes .. it expands when warm and contracts once cool.. Sometimes water doesn't even get into the engine or fuel system but engine still bends or blows out.. sudden rapid cooling and heating up of engine block, valves and pistons above acceptable rate occasioned by driving a warmed up car into a pool of cold water.. can cause bent valves and blowout like as noticed above..quite common with honda ,Benz and even some Lexus. ..simply put..engine pass engine. Lastly get insurance against flood . It helps Note .. I am not a mechanic . Alot here is from personal experience over the years.. if any in-house expert feels otherwise please feel free to correct as needed.. 2 Likes |

Yes. Water entered the transmission. I've drained/flushed it twice already. Mrford: |

Re: Port Harcourt Mall Flood: Fixing A Car That Drove Through The Water by byteem: 9:12am On Oct 07, 2021 |
Bleiz: You need to find the source where water got into transmission.. getting into flood won't cause water to get in except through the dip stick.. or through your radiator.. check your radiator if water is mixed with oil if yes then u have source.. transmission oil passes through your radiator through dedicated pipes to keep it cool. If those pipes get broken then water could get into radiator. That would happen if your radiator hits a hard surface..for that you need to replace radiator .. If you change trans oil without fixing the issue .. water keeps getting in.. and note to use right oil.. dnt opt for cheap ones.. u might need to do oil change ike three times cause of the trans oil in converter..drive a lil bit then drain out and change..expensive yes but better to do oil change than replace gear box..but check radiator |

Where is this converter located? Is it the same thing as solenoid or gear changer? D light blinks sometimes when I drive it. I think water entered through the vent circled in red. My radiator is a new radiator and it isn't leaking byteem:

Re: Port Harcourt Mall Flood: Fixing A Car That Drove Through The Water by byteem: 11:17am On Oct 07, 2021 |
Bleiz: Yes some call it gear changer. It's not a solenoid. it is the heart of the gear box where gear changes occur and about 25 % of gear oil goes in there.. u need to flush out old oil from it. but if your gear is already dropped then u are good as noted in the pics but if not drive a lil then change oil again. check oil with dip stick you should know if it is still mixed.. well that's if your car has dip stick to check trans oil .. some modern cars don't.. secondly radiator need not leak out Water for oil to mix with your transmission. Pipe can be compromised internally and you won't know.. your new radiator is it toks or new . Some toks radiator are worked and will only show issues when u install them..these Guys sometimes weld the oil pipes insid the radiator or even use glue to hold it. I had an issue like that some years back had to replace my busted radaitor. Got a clean toks but after fixing by mec.. oil mixed with transmission.. changed oil three times and filter until . Car still drives fine. And dint drop gearbox.. Radiator is all covered with plastic underneath so u won't see it .. the only thing u see is the two pipes sticking out where the trans circulation hose goes in.. yes be sure ..those hoses are placed correctly too..some mechs mix it up and then trans overheats . Some other stupid ones block it.. Do a basic check .drain out radiator liquid if it's clear and not oily then u are good.. that circled section is not clear. But if it's a pipe then it could be compromised.. if it's a seal then replace .. have your mechanic do a proper check.. also scanning helps.. get a transmission scanning tool the blinking d light could mean your gear switch is faulty or that it's not tight or oil water ratio is still high or u used wrong trans oil or that oil is not enough or that trans is overheating... Could be anything but dnt joke with it. If not your gear will start to slip and pack up original trans oil varies from car to car.there is nothing like universal oil or using oando.. get the right oil.. is your trans a CVT or Standard. ..ATF oil differs from CVT oil if it is CVT get the right CVT oil. Some put ATF oil when it's a CVT.. Honda's and Nissans are common with this confusion and that's why these cars tend to have more trans issues. every car model has its own oil unique to it. Google helps.. some mechs don't even know this others are just plain ignorant..either way u get to spend the money so be sure . It's not so cheap these days.and can be scarce depending on your car model . take your time and find it. and yes change your filter too .. that's under your trans sump..it's not so expensive..dnt wash or rinse . Change.. |

temi4fash: If it's the bearings on the tripod that has broken or worn...then there will be need to buy a new set, or a new tripod altogether. The mechanic will know on inspection. If it's an engine mount that is broken then it needs to be changed. |

Radiator is new not toks. Transmission is standard not CVT, so I used ATF. Gear isn't dropped. I got the pics on the internet. I've driven it around, it still slips, jerks sometimes, delays engaging oftentimes, etc. If water is still in gear changer, how best can I get rid of it? byteem: |
