Let those guilty to be blacklisted from contesting elections

I know rarely will u find a clean in and out politician in Nigeria remember how ribadu told the senate in 2006 that the only serving state governor they found to be clean in and out was Donald Duke then..... and the senate reject the claim

Bukola Saraki not long ago told youths that contesting in the presidential election means soiling their hands.

Good we elect someone who is vatse in economics and business investment come 2023 OSIBANJO too will help alot in building bridges, uniting the country and electoral transparency just like Jonathan did with elections

If he never misappropriated or embezzled any public funds as a governor, and he never stole from anyone by way of scamming from anyone as a businessman, then I see no serious issues in these allegations against Peter Obi.

Bro.. ganduje ws caught on a live video takinh bribe Obi own is allegations of having undisclosed assets which he said he didn't break the law

Both are different nah

One, Mr Obi continued to hold his position as a director of his UK company, NEXT International (UK) Limited, 14 months after becoming the governor of Anambra State in contravention of Section Six of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act.

Two, Mr Obi set up complicated layers of secrecy to hide his offshore holdings, which he admitted to failing to declare to the Code of Conduct Bureau, apparently hoping the public and the authorities would never get to know, thereby breaching Section 11, Part of the Fifth Schedule of the 1999 Constitution.

Three, Mr Obi as a governor was also operating a foreign account in breach of the constitution and the public service code of conduct rules.

How developed was Lagos during that period ?
How long as Abuja been the capital now ?

You mean to tell me Lagos is not a beta state nown than when it was the capital ?

Should I post photos of Oshodi Ajah Able Egba n many others then n now for you to compare n contrast ?

OK for the sake of your argument what is your state let us compare it to state in other africa aside their federal capital to prove what a foolosh soul you are n will eternally will be.

Lagos in the midst of underdevelopment plaguing Nigeria stand tall among all but you want no kudo to be given to it while you celebrate the perpetual redundancy plaguing Alaigbo that ensure you lot keep escaping your wretched state to salvage a living in the same Lagos you are here badmouthing.

Oloriburuku somebody. No go pity your papa for hell. Be there feelings sorry for me.

winterfell007:

I always feel sorry for folks like you when you compare Lagos, a supposed mega city with states whose population aren't even up to six million. Lagos is a commercial city for businesses. Lagos is far behind other mega cities of her status like Johannesburg, London, Tokyo. Those cities don't compare themselves with their fellow sister states, they're big on their own rights and compare themselves with other respective countries mega cities. Stop forming local champion.

Two bullion van was seen entering Tinubu house on eve of election...is that not money laundering

More so Peter Obi's case is him been in opposition and aspiring to unseat incumbent president in 2019 it would have made it easy fr the efcc to go after him

More so I am not Ibo I am from edo.
I just wish Nigeria can have some like Obi vatse in business investment and economy or Osibanjo an astute legal practitioner as president.... be it any that emerge Nigeria problem will be partly solved for next 8 years i doubt many nigerians will let that happen because of tribal or religious sentiments

I hold no brief for any politician, nor do I hold any for Peter obi, the subject of this article... What I hold brief for is the honest, sincere truth.

There are two basic approaches to life, cynical realism or optimistic idealism.

The political class in Nigeria are fans of the first approach. They are largely cynics. They are pragmatists. The combination of that leads to all sorts of machiavelism we see displayed in the name of governance in Nigeria, where getting political power and retaining it is actually of much more importance than governance and proper policy formulation and implementation.

On the altar of political power and politics, Nigerian politicians will sacrifice everything and everyone.

They will sacrifice friendship, betray causes, destroy reputations, blackmail, assassinate, steal, destroy, threaten, intimidate, corrupt, imprison, oppress, entrap, plot, malign, falsify, turn the truth on its head... All in a bid to secure and retain power.

In the next class are professional journalists. After politicians, these self appointed conscience of democracy are the most crooked and morally bankrupt. They will not only create false narratives to get fame and money, they will also stretch the truth in whatever direction they so desire and get away with it. The casualty is the public or the unfortunate person that is the subject matter of their character assassinating stories. After the devil, fear Nigerian journalists.

This brings me to the point of my rantings.... Peter òbí, a gentleman politician, a rare breed of practical integrity in that class of the morally decrepit, is the present focus of a Nigerian publication, purporting to accuse Peter of crimes against the Nigerian state.

There is something about mudslinging...you throw dirt and see what will stick. Reputation is a difficult thing for the famous. News media only have to allege wrongdoings... And if you are not careful, your reputation is stained forever.

This is because mankind tends to believe the negative ahead of the positive, we find bad news salacious and more interesting, we are more likely to believe something negative about something than the positive... This is why news sell, and why bad news spread fast.... It makes for interesting gist, and seems more believable...

Obi has a stellar reputation, out of the blues, a newspaper alleged crimes and presented supposed facts... Without giving any court of justice the benefit of interpreting or passing judgement first.

What did you think will happen?... Given the psychology of humans you can be sure that people will believe the bad news about òbí, ahead of anything.

If you try to defend him, they will still see him as guilty... The court of public opinion has literally judged and hanged him even though they have no understanding of the details short of what the media has said or what their natural prejudice has told them.

Shey you get, it's an interesting psychological problem and it's why propaganda works too on mass consciousness... If it barks like a dog, it must be a dog....

Basically premium times carried out a character assassinating assignment on Peter òbí. As far as Nigerians are concerned, he is now no more different from any money Stealing Nigerian politician. Call a dog a bad name to hang him....

There is nothing òbí can say, nor any evidence he can present, that will ever remove that stain of corruption that premium times has assigned to him. Any effort he makes will be seen as trying to cover up or make excuses...

It is far better not to have a stellar reputation than to have it destroyed overnight by uninformed newsmedia hacks pretending to be on the side of virtue.

This is a road every person of integrity must pass, it is a lesson to all who lead honest lives.... You must not develop a stellar reputation even if you are stellar.

Your reputation is a threat to everyone. It's a threat to the political class, it is a threat to your enemies, it is a threat to the public who will view you suspiciously and find you too good to be true and thus scamy and that makes them likely to believe bad things about you.

If you are good, do not make a show of it. Do not at every opportunity pontificate on how stellar you are, in fact, it is a risk to you in Nigeria to have a clean reputation.

The political class will feel more comfortable with you if they feel you are as bad as They are. The public will feel more comfortable with you if they know you are not different... Nobody likes good people.. Society kills them off soon... In body or reputation.. As they have done for òbí now...

It does not matter what the truth is, what matters is what the public believe about you... And that, my people is why Peter òbí is foorked.

They say you shit, say you  no clean you arse, how will you clear that sort of allegation?.. Will you start showing your arse to everyone in the public as evidence that you cleaned it?... If you start doing that, will they not say you have gone mad?... So you see, you are bleeped both ways...

At this point in time, only posterity can save Obis reputation or make him recover it. Even if the supreme Court should say he is not guilty, Nigerians will say the Court was corrupt...

Every arm chair analyst that hates what òbí stands for now has ammo in his kit to shoot down talks of good governance. All the good this man has done is lost in the noise of the alleged wrongdoings.

His political opponents and the Nigerian state that has been looking for dirt on him now has enough ammo to frustrate his political life for the next ten years...

They know they won't win in court of law, they just want to frustrate him and finish him politically. The ccb will be a veritable tool deployed for this, the tax agencies too, efcc might also be hovering for pickings, whatever is left at the end of the day, Obi will not be the same person ever again..... As far as a stellar image is concerned in the minds of the people, and that is exactly what Nicholas Ibekwe was going for when he gleefully wrote" òbí on poto poto"..

Imagine someone wearing white, then pushed by nicholas into mud... Imagine it was you. Imagine you have done no wrong.

Exactly.

Exactly.

"Firstly, you got it all wrong when your think Journalists are after his perceived "astonishing reputation".

Secondly, Premium Times did not create or invent the Pandora Papers as you have insinuated, The investigation is part of the global International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ)-led Pandora Papers project.

The project saw 600 journalists from 150 news organisations around the world poring through a trove of 11.9 million confidential files, contextualising information, tracking down sources and analysing public records and other documents.

The leaked files were retrieved from some offshore services firms around the world that set up shell companies and other offshore entities for clients, many of them influential politicians, businesspersons and criminals, seeking to conceal their financial dealings.

The two-year collaboration has so far revealed the financial secrets of not less than 35 current and former world leaders, more than 330 public officials in more than 91 countries and territories. So, this is not a case of someone witch-hunting Peter Him-Tu-Lie Obi China.
