There is apathy towards paying taxes when you know the taxes aren’t used for the common good. You see the presidential jet that parked in Stansted airport for over a 100 days when your president went for treatment- tax payers money The medical treatment he went for was paid with - correct, tax payers money The 70-car convoy that bullies you off the road when the ones you voted in are moving around, the presidential jet that carried a daughter to an event organized for her school thesis, the powe bike crashed by the son, the mega allowances paid to National Assembly members… all tax payers money. You see where this is going! No one will be happy to pay tax to a wasteful system. In summary, tax isn’t paid out of love for your country, it is paid to be put to good use for the COMMON good |

fastseo:I believe the OP's question is not about the choice of where people store their money, rather it is about paying the rightful taxes on monies made even before you make your choice on where to store the money. |

KingOfAmebo:Do you pay tax? If you pay, who are those looting it? Continue deceiving yourself. I dont support Obi Pandora, but if you can avoid it, then do. As long as you give employment to workers. You pay income tax also, and all your workers do. Pandora and those Islands need money. And they give out free taxes. So what? Then go and accuse your govt of establishing free trade zones also. Company taxes is bull crap in my opinion. If one is paying to a nation that uses it for her people, its fine, bug Nigeria? I guess you are a kid who have not started life. |

With this finding, how will one explain the part of the clergymen trying to play smart by avoid tax. I guess the assertion that politics and pulpit goes hand in hand might just be true after all. As for the politicians, Nigerian politicians particularly they will gladly pass a bill that will stop them from paying tax altogether if given the chance. |

Noshitboi:The responsibility of government in the use of taxes does not preclude citizens from fulfilling their requirement of the law. You cannot break the law simply because you see government breaking the law. In such instances you loose the most |

Gbajure:See another f00l who can't even read beyond the letter. Yhu keep wailing and spewing rubbish, is Peter Obi the only one talked about here? Calling someone empty and illogical when yhu are the real definition of "illogical and emptiness" Look, yhur president and his vice just budgeted 508million naira for feeding for a year, go to that thread and wail. I am sure yhu and yhur entire family feeding budget for the year is not even upto 1million naira Yhu should cry for yhurself. Seriously, some of yhu are just incredibly stup1d! Gosh, yhu are so concerned about individuals who have the right to do whatever they want with their money and forget that yhur government should be held responsible for yhur collapsing economy. Bunch of hypocrite! Get sense old man. |

Tax avoidance and tax evasion are two different things. Tax avoidance means to legally reduce your taxable income while tax evasion means concealing income or information from tax authorities, to me both are morally wrong but the law is flexible which makes it possible to get away with avoiding tax. Taxes are needed by the government to fund defense, Social Security, health programs along with paying off interest on the national debts but due to corruption Nigerians have lost trust in our governments utilization of funds raised through taxation, but nevertheless just like when we pay our tithes without questioning how its used by the church we should still make sure we pay our taxes. Humans world over don't like paying tax not just Nigeria, that is why its an offence when you evade your tax, Wesley Snipes was sentenced to three years for tax evasion so as stars like Fat Joe, Lauryn Hill, Dolce & Gabana, Nicolas Cage ....... When we start holding our leaders accountable we will see the benefits of paying our taxes. |

KingOfAmebo:If Nigeria make use of the taxes that accrues to them presently in a judicious manner, Nigeria would be one of the greatest nation in the world. I would not advice any business to establish herself in a country as Nigeria, its not the ideal society to thrive. and yes the developed nation keep growing because the the government utilize the little resources committed to them hence the citizens and even foreigners are encouraged to pay more. |

KingOfAmebo:Maybe you made this statement because you lack economic education or maybe because it sounds virtuous to you. Countries make money from innovation and GDP. Jeff Besos is wealthy because of innovation. He creates jobs which creates income and that creates tax revenues. Taxing the hell out of a business prevents innovation and does not help countries - it HURTS countries. The country needs to make TAX INCENTIVES to bring innovation and business. You are totally backwards in your thinking. You need to show other countries that if they place their money here it will create a return. California has high taxes, but the poor suffer. You cannot tax your way out of poverty. |
