Facebook is doing a great job with WhatsApp. Despite that, I still miss BBM by RIM for pinging and privacy concerns. WhatsApp has no privacy.

whatsapp has end to end encryption. I only hate how some people can still add me to random groups. Not all need my permission.

I think it is a RAM issue, if your phone is not up to 4gig RAM or above, you might not be able to use WhatsApp.
