Panadol is a brand of paracetamol, it's just his preference

Pls can explain u why Emzor paracetamol seems to work for me better than M&B product??

The m&b seems slow and inefficatious to my satisfaction. I've compared the 2. I'm kinda convinced Emzor has more dose of ingredients than m&b

Finally it's on FP.

Since October,11th.

For me, I don't prescribe brands to my patients. The Pharmacist should just dispense based on the active ingredients!

This post just opened my eyes to the things I've been ignorant about
Very important post, all those myths like taking sweet things before using worm expellers and the belief that white vitamin C is more effective has finally come to an end grin

So you took concentrated extracts of antimicrobial compounds found in plants and compared them to other drugs.

Some worked some didn't, but this is already an established field of science (penicillin is from plants).

The difference between this study and what counts as "herbal medicine" in Nigeria, is the so-called "herbal medicine" practitioners don't put their products through this kind of scientific rigour but make bold claims about the efficiency of their products.

They also don't warn about the toxicity and potential side effects of taking their drugs.

At least you brought an actual scientific paper this time.

Penicillin is actually from a microorganism called Penicillium chrysogenum (renamed as Penicillium rubens)

That research aimed at checking if secondary metabolites present in those plants are effective against Antibiotic-resistant microorganisms because recently it has been observed that most of the common antibiotics are no longer working against Antibiotic-resistant microorganisms, that's why nowadays when you're having bacterial infection Doctors will prescribe two different antibiotics for you (just because they know one may not work effectively due to antimicrobial resistance).
Very soon most of these antibiotics won't work again hence the need to divert attention to some medicinal plants that can be used to produce drugs with better mode of action. Although, before these plants can be used for medicine, they will be subjected to toxicology tests and some other essential tests before being used to produce drugs that are safe for human use.
The research is not in any way supporting the use of Agbo (local herbs) because you can't measure their dosage and apart from that, not every secondary metabolite present in those plants are useful, some are also harmful. So the research is just a clarion call to other scientists to see the potentials of those plants in developing drugs that can fight resistant-microorganism.

I confused penicillin with aspirin.

We are essentially saying the same thing, we know plants have medicinal properties but these local herbal medicine sellers don't do any proper research, just hearsay and trial and error.

That's why I am against them.

Unfortunately, I will not mention my brand here but what you don't know, you don't know. I will rather tell you I have had infertility cases addressed and so much more. For your information, millions of people around the word have taken this brand for over 40 years and they are here to prove the efficacy. See ehn just stay on your lane and keep enjoying your orthodox medications.

For example go and find out about the hazards found in fertilizers, flouride, preservatives in processed meats etc.. information you don't seek, you don't get.

Lol Oga o.. lemme mention the brand for you since u Dey shame to mention am, it’s FOREVER LIVING products and u are one of their marketers grin, also checked it online and saw that they have been around for 40years plus.. so Oga forever products, go Sidon grin

I hold my breath when taking drugs and I always wash my hands after. I hate the sight of drugs. Especially the yellow ones.

Just like I replied someone earlier, some people prefer M&B over Emzor paracetamol, most times the issue is more psychological than pharmacological, maybe your mind is already wired that Emzor works better for you than M&B.

Well written Dozin except number 5, whenever i prescribe a particular brand that’s because I want the patient to get that particular brand. Eg If I prescribe Rocephin for a patient that’s because I specifically want that patient to take Rocephin and not any other ceftriaxone so that should the treatment not work I’ll look at a possibility of a differential diagnosis. Most of those cheaper ceftriaxone are not as effective and from experience I can bet on what I said
Yes I understand, that's why I said in most cases not in all cases, my statement was not an absolute deduction.

It all depends on where the drug fail, if it falls on a clean and polished ground I will pick it and take it but if it falls in an unwholesome environment, I will pick another.
Apart from hygienic reasons, I don't see anything wrong with picking a drug that fail inside my well cleaned and tiled room.

Nice one. I have issue with 4 and 5. From microbial sensitivity, some brands are more sensitive to microbes than others. Hence, doctors prefer certain brands from clinical experience. Also, doctors factor socioeconomic factors of patients in selecting brands. I have seen pharmacists selecting expensive brands for patients because they feel such brands are not fast moving and could expire soon in their stores.
No pharmacist has the right to change a doctor's prescription unless the life of the patient is in danger and even at that you must consult the prescriber first and explain why you will not dispense these drugs, for me if a doctor writes a particular brand I dispense that brand, if I don't have I will tell the patient that I don't have that particular brand but I have it's equivalent, so ask your doctor if I can give the brand that I have.
All things being equal, every brand approved by the regulatory body is supposed to exert same pharmacological effects.

Problem is that it doesn't take long to confirm this. Once I take sugar, am knocked. What have you to say about this my friend.
Sugar has not been found to cause waist pain.

Tell us about the one of "avoiding alc while on medication", please.

I'm curious...
Please avoid alcohol while on drugs, there are some drugs that if you take while taking alcohol, you will experience severe adverse effects that would be worst than the reason you are taking those drugs.

Okay
I have been experiencing a great discomfort on my upper left abdomen. Sometimes this culminates in back ache at that side. Once i tried to find out via Google and i saw something like enlarged pancreatitis and some other info here and there.

I take alcohol socially (Very moderately)....

So i really want to be informed professionally. What it is, probable cause(s), remedy etc..

Thanks in anticipation.

There are people that do not take any other anti malarial apart from Lonart (Artemether and Lumefantrine) and they get better with it, your case could be drug resistance.
I was surprised too seeing that remark about Lonart from her because that is my preferred choice of brand, I reluctantly use any other.

Please clarify: Intravenous works better than tablet.

- Drugs work better when taken with water.

- Emzor paracetamol is more effective than panadol, just because panadol seems coated and not bitter like the former.

Nigerian nurses and doctors just love inflicting pain. Even if you are pregnant, they will first give you the medicine that would make you want to vomit your unborn baby. Except you go back and complain. They will na grudgingly give you something else. Tufiakwa! grin

On the part of patients.
- Once you feel better you can discontinue the drug. Tomorrow they will now say the drug is fake or malaria no gree make them treat am.

- Tablets work better than syrups. I have seen parents crush tablets for their kids because they think children’s syrups are ineffective.

You don experience that in bold

1. Antibiotics dry up blood when you take them and so it must be taken with blood supplements. This is very wrong, antibiotics do not dry blood, ask your doctor or pharmacist whatever you need to know when taking antibiotics.

2. The white vitamin C works better than the coloured one. The difference between the coloured and white vitamin C are the colourants and sweeteners used to manufacture the latter, ordinarily vitamin C does not have a sweet taste but sweeteners and colourants are incorporated into the active drug during compounding/manufacture to improve the taste and aesthetics, that's all.
The sour or sweet taste is not associated with efficacy.

3. Anti helminthics (worm expellers) should be taken after taking sugar or sugary food.
Some people say this is done to entice the worm to come out and eat the sugary food so that the drugs can act on it. This is one of the most hilarious stuff I've ever heard as a pharmacist, however it is not true, just take your worm expeller as prescribed by your doctor.

4. The more expensive the drug the more effective it is compared to another brand of the same drug. This is not always true, most times you are just buying a name or a brand.

5. The particular brand prescribed by the doctor is always the best, doctors are meant to prescribe generics so that the pharmacist will be at liberty to select the available brand and dispense to the patient, most times the patient may not have enough money to buy the particular brand prescribed and the proper thing to do would be to dispense an affordable but effective brand, there are some cases where some patients would be walking from Pharmacy to Pharmacy looking for a particular brand that was given to them in the hospital while there are several other brands that they can purchase that would do same thing.

6. Roadside drug sellers are more affordable than pharmacies and hospitals. This particular myth should be listed as one of the thousand ways to die in Nigeria, patronising quacks is a sure way to meet your maker quickly. In every pharmacy, there are usually up to 5 brands of the same drug and their prices are always different too, this is to cater for needs of everyone, wether high, medium or low class, when you get into the Pharmacy, tell the pharmacist the amount you have, the chances are high that he has the drug you want that you can afford at that price, apart from getting an affordable and effective medication, you also get a sound drug information. Also make it a habit to go to the hospital when you are not feeling fine, don't wait till it's too late, government hospitals are still cheap in Nigeria, just go on time.

7. Herbal medicines are safer than orthodox medicines. Some people forget that most orthodox drugs are sourced from natural sources, moreover a particular plant may contain thousands or millions of phytochemicals, some medicinal and some harmful.

You can state yours
op I beg no vex. There is this leaf called hospital too far. I learnt it's not good for our health when consumed in large amount. Is this true?
