Good day sir please I am equally a beginner and I have passion to step into this field please what materials and level would you recommend I start from would appreciate if we can talk directly my no 08141246409
wisdomremz:
already started my journey into data science, prior before now I had a mentor(my cousin) who is a data scientist in Australia who talked extensively on data science and gave various tools necessary. So I brushed through excel by taking some course like analysing data using excel and other courses on Edx(videos) then currently learning sql using sql server express learnt basics using w3schools and sqlzoo which am done, practicing using ssms and sample database like(adventureworks and northwind) so refreshing. Also I have some PDFs book having questions and problem from beginner to advance on the sample database listed, once am done I will also take some courses on edX. Afterwards would move into python and other tools.

just wanted to share my journey for the past one month. thanks Ejiod and other contributors.

if you are also on this journey into the world of data science quote me, let's relate

Hi Everyone,

We are launching a platform to help users build projects for your portfolio and to master your craft.

We collaborate with experienced data scientists, data engineers and BI/Data Analysts to compile projects resembling real world projects. We are looking to have a free tier and paid tier. The free tier will give you access to projects, case studies and datasets. The paid tier will give you access to mentor guided projects. You can view multiple videos from our mentors guiding you. The videos walk you through the project problem statement, possible considerations to make, what models you may want to consider etc. In addition to this, you can post questions regarding any challenges you are encountering and receive quick feedback from our mentors. You can collaborate and chat with other users and lastly, if you submit your project you will receive feedback to help you figure out what you need to improve.

Our mentors are experienced data scientists working for big companies across Africa and abroad. We charge a monthly fee of $15 for our paid tier.

Interested to know what people think about this. Granted I haven't shared the link and only just walking you through how it works.

How do you see this platform helping you in becoming/upskilling your data science/data engineering skills

As someone looking for mentorship and a platform to build and showcase projects. This is a welcome idea.

Sounds great.
Especially as experience is the key in this field and one cannot get a job without experience.

This will provide job experience and serve as stepping stone for beginners.

I want to start self training myself in data science and I am contemplating on which laptop to buy. Presently I have this to option before me.
HP 15-ba052wm
7th gen AMD A10-9600P APU
8GB RAM
Amazing clarity with HD touchscreen

And

Laptop HP Envy M6 8GB AMD A10 HDD 1T.

Which would you advise me to go for considering what I want to use it for.
Note: both price is almost in the same range

CourseEra is quite expensive.

I would advise you go for Udemy or Youtube.

Check a dude called MikeExcelIsFun on youtube.
He has everything you needed to start with from excel to power BI.

For python, search a dude called CodeBasics on youtube. He teaches python and machine learning like teaching kindergartens .

For SQL, go to pdfdrive.com and search for a book called LearningSQL. If you are not the book type, you can go for Udemy course too for that.

If you need some other stuff, remember, google is your friend.

Thanks for this but was looking at it from The angle of obtaining certification

Was considering certification without minding cost.

Since you ain't financially buoyant, asking you to watch videos online is out of the equation. I can help you by sharing with you PDFs for any type of course you want. From learning python, to learning data analysis using python from Wes McKinney himself (Google who he is), to machine learning using python, deep learning using python.

Also, I earlier shared a Udemy channel with this thread where you can watch videos to learn online if you have the resources to do so.
boss man pls me self just want o start my journey any help from you will he appreciated

Please if i have spyder and python already installed as a standalone exe, do i need to uninstall them before installing anaconda
Re: Chronicle Of A Data Scientist/analyst by dauddy97(m): 4:03pm On Oct 23, 2021
@ Excel2025
Anaconda itself comes with the latest version of python. So, having python or not before anaconda installation isn't an issue. Both methods will work fine.

Ok. But what of spyder and vs code which I already installed the exe. Will they interfere with the ones prebuilt in anaconda

Postgresql imo. ✔️
It has a robust syntax for data manipulation and wrangling.
MySQL is a walk in the park once you know that

MySQL is the most commonly used compared to postgresql.

Consider the one that is widely used or applied in the business world. However they all have same syntax, just little differences.
