Re: No One Should Be Arrested In Nigeria For Possessing Charms by CJ310(m): 8:54pm On Oct 21, 2021
As much as I am a Christian, I agree with the OP. After all it’s our indigenous religion. If he wasn’t threatening anyone with grievous bodily harm then the arrest for possession of charms. was illegal. The cutlass however, is another kettle of fish.

So I just came online and I saw on the front page that an EndSARS protester was arrested for possessing charm and cutlass. This is not the first time the Nigerian Police Force has arrested someone for possession charms.

I just wanted to make this clear that in a country where there is supposed to be religious freedom, arresting someone for possessing charm is like arresting a Muslim for possession the Qur'an or a Christian for possessing the Bible.

If It was a Christian/Muslim that was arrested, people would have cried persecution/islamophobia. But now a traditional worshippers is carrying what He believes in and was arrested for it, y'all are real quiet. I'm sure some of you like are even happy with the arrest. undecided

Una good evening.
That's exactly what I told my wife yesterday. Nobody arrests someone with praying beads or rosary. But a traditionalist will be arrested for possessing what he believes in. That shows how Africans have been brainwashed to believe their religion is evil. More so, our laws do not recognize charm.

What is this one saying sef? Man was arrested because he had a deadly weapon on himself- machete- not just charms. I'm not aware that the police is going around arresting sango and amadioha worshipers. Common sense is that you and I are not born yesterday and we know what has been going on recently. In the light of that, you don't think a man with charms plus a machete in a hot location should be kept tabbed on? I won't be surprised if you were the first person to say the police weren't doing their jobs if that man commits some felony.

If he is taken to court, the charms will not count but the cutlass that was found in his possession and he will be prosecuted for possession of dangerous weapon in a peaceful protest...But yes everyone has a right to practice any religion he/or she pleases...

I think his arrest was beyond the charm. Carrying a cutlass to a protest ground is worth being arrested. I am Pro-EndSars, in case you want to attack for supporting police brutality.

What you should ask yourself is that can an ordinary Bible or Quran kill?? No!! Can a charm kill?? Yes. So anything that can kill or create bodily injuries to people are not permitted to be carried anyhow in public space.

You make a great point. Religious freedom should extend to everyone. But people like MaxInDHouse do not get that concept. grin
He didn't make any point at all with respect to his first statement. In a protest ground, u have a Cutlass and you expect not to be arrested?! It's like hla protester holding a gun( an extreme case) and you expect he or she won't shoot. Put on your charm, no one will disturb you but what is the Cutlass for? Farm work in a protest? Probably, they fear he is about to cultivate the police men' skulls?

Yes of course, with all the jazz, charm, juju voodoo, the white still colonized and explore.

A man is made of what he thinks and believes in.
with all the machines and guns, countries were destroyed. Weapons or religion doesn't keep a man safe from disaster. Everyone has his time to rule, we've had our share of power, we can't keep it forever.

the both can kill, just take the Norway guy as a case study, few days into islam, he entered the streets with bow and arrows, this is something you wouldn't see a man with charms do. It's not about your religion, it's about personality.

Yoruba charms are just for show, they lack potency - they're as useless as the "p" in psychology.

I agree. Cutlass is for clearing grass or farming in general. Charm is just like rosary or cross.
