I don't think so.

The transmission ECU should be built in the main ECU, albiet, some cars do have a separate transmission ECU

My EOD had water in the ECU, the transmission acted up and while engine ran fine. If EOD doesn't, baby boy shouldn't.

Your mechanic should rule out

1 spark
2 fuel
3 compression
4 timing

If he doesn't know how to check these, find another who does.

it doesn't have a separate ecu for the transmission like some cars do

Sometimes when you put the key in the ignition and turn it, the green key indicator light will not flash on the dash board and once it did not flash, the car can never start even if you try from now till tomorrow.
We initially thought it was a Transponder issue but in the end it wasnt.
I actually doubted it when he said the gear brain box has issues cos that was the very first time am hearing that until he showed me the one he removed from my car.
He clarified that its not all Honda Acord 1998 models that have it. (Mostly American Spec or so that normally does)

There is a reason I said test for spark and fuel. If no spark and fuel, its most likely an immobilizer issue.

Also the absence of spark means the mechanic cannot be suspecting transmission ECU. Otherwise, ECU can be ruled out.

I didnt want to start asking you whether you have immobilizer or not, the way to know for sure is spark and fuel.

If you have an ECU issue and you have an immobilizer, how are you sure that a new ECU will solve your problem?

I still think you need a new competent mechanic.

But can it be possible that spark and fuel could cause the green key sign not to flash on the dashboard when you want to start the car?
Normally, the green key sign flashes momento rally once you insert the key and turn it before the car starts but it doesn't now, hence my car hasn't been starting.
I changed the Relay still the issue wasn't solved.
The guy claims that once we change the gear brain box, the issue would be solved; would still ask him about the Immobilizer though.

@the bolded, you are correct in reverse. The green key light is the one that determines if you get spark and fuel.

That green key light is the immobilizer system.

It flashes and goes off once the correct key is inserted into ignition.

If wrong key is inserted into ignition, the green key light stays on which means the car is immobilized.

If the light doesn't come on at all, then you probably do not have power on the immobilizer system or the unit is bad and the car is definitely immobilized.

Immobilized means the ECU will not send power to the coil packs and also the fuel injectors. That means no spark, no fuel.

What you need is a key programmer. Its either there is a problem with the key (it certainly has a transponder), or the receiver, or the immobilizer unit. The immobilizer unit turns on/off the main ECU. So you will think the ECU is not working but actually the immobilizer is the main thing here. You will change all the ECU you like, the immobilizer is the one that will allow the car start.

From the pictures you shared and the cut and join wires i have seen, your present mechanic will never be able to start that car. Lets pray he has not done damage to the immobilizer system and the ECU.

I drove the car and while still in motion after driving for like 10 minutes, the engine went off suddenly as if there was a cut in fuel supply. I tried all i could to start the car but it refused to start as the key sign did not flash on the dashboard.
I ended up towing the car to the guy's repair shop.

So, can this also be as a result of the immobilizer?.

Sincerely, at a point i started thinking this was the handiwork of village people (LOL) because you will start the car normally, drive to a place and when you want to go, the green key sign will not flash and the car wont start. You will leave the car, come back the next morning, insert the key, the green light will flash and the car will start.

You've said it all. The green light is what you need to fix.

What you need is a key programmer. Those who have scanning machine that is capable of programming transponder keys.

all you have typed points to immobiliser issue....but,does the check engine light come on at all when u turn the key to the ACC position?

if check light doesn't come on at all the car won't start till eternity

I will suggest that u check the brainbox of your car . Cos the brainbox us what opens the fuel pump and then opens the nozzles . If the brainbox is bad it won't send any signal . Try and check that your brainbox if it is good

Av changed the brain box yet the issues are still there

Thanks guys, your advice made me change Electrician .
Lo and behold the new Electrician fixed the car that same day, a car that had stayed four months in the workshop of the previous electrician.

Funny enough, the new Electrician refused to open up on the actual thing he did.
When i towed the car to his workshop, i wanted to give him a brief history of the issue with the car but he said i shouldn't bother as he would run his own analysis and correct the fault ASAP.
Since all i wanted was to have my car repaired, i had no choice.
To my greatest surprise, the young man called me the next day to come and carry the car and gave me a bill of N45,000 which after much haggling he reduced to N35,000.
