Hello nairalanders,

Sorry for bringing such a Story here, but I just feel like getting advises and opinions.

I'm a young single father of one.

I have been the one taking care of my son since his mother left us for a worldly adventure since 4 months ago. But ever since I took over the baton to become the child keeper or nanny or whatever name u could call it, I have never noticed this child fart.

He uses the toilet every morning when he wakes up, but I don't know if he uses the toilet in school, but since last week he has been sent home from school because of fees, I noticed he doesn't use the toilet during those school hours, sometimes the whole day.

So, I kept pondering what could be happening, could it be normal, or maybe he farts and and I'm not aware but overreacting? But I remember his class mistress sometime last week complaining that he's looking malnutritious, and she was advising I get him multivitamins.
Though she complain also that I should try change his food from rice and meat to something else like plantain and egg and others but honestly I can't afford things like that for now.

So I ask, what could be the cause?
Is it truly malnutrition?
Or is it that I'm not always aware when he farts?
Or is there any medical explanation that could help, honestly I'm worried because something worse mustn't happen, I can't afford it.

Thanks

take him to the hospital

This kind question na wah oo. Does the child defecate? From your story yes he does.

So why are you worried? If he goes to toilet and passes faecal matter then he's OK. Its not a must to fart.

It's only when he doesn't defecate and starts having abdominal pain, abdominal swelling, vomiting, constipation or fever then You should be worried of intestinal obstruction.

Also note that the kind of food he eats matters as well when it has to do with passing gas.

Op I can see your problem is the pressure of parenting. Free the pikin abeg, he is very normal.

Just get him moringa seeds. Let him eat like 15 seeds raw without peeling it, then go to church for Thanksgiving trust me it works.

Please, you have to do better.
Make sure he eats at least one egg per day. You can include it in his noodles, rice or spaghetti.
As for fruits, 1-2 oranges, or an apple, or some bananas every day will go a long way to nourish his body with vitamins, boost his immune system, and free his bowels. It is as simple as that.
Also, make sure you give him water to drink every 2-3 hours in a day.
As they say, prevention is better than cure.

Are you aware that not all eggs are healthy? I'd prefer he does an egg in two days and more of fruits and water. His food should be balanced.

He has probably trained himself to not use the bathroom during school hours out of shyness. Or maybe the schools bathroom facilities were not up to his standard of comfort.

If he's using the toilet every morning, what is the issue? lol. You're also probably nervous about your new role and you're compensating by over analyzing. Some people prefer to use the bathroom in the morning, it's not an issue. If he wasn't using it at all that would be bad

and biko, how often did you fart in your own father's face?

Brother, from experience, give him oranges every night:squeeze the orange water into his cup, select those seeds from the cup, dilute it with little water cause of its acidic nature; give him enough water, even if he doesn't want, force him;always try to give him water and lastly dip your little finger into a bottle of Rob,take a little portion and put it in his anus.

I don't know how you come about with his not farting. How often does he stool and urinate?

Anyway, don't take him to the hospital yet.

Change his diet.
Add fruits to his meal
Make sure he drinks more water
Don't give him drugs (vitamins) if you can give him at least 3 different fruits every week.
I hear beans is good even though I don't eat it, so you can as well add it to his meal.
Start giving him DANO Milk if you can afford it as complan is expensive.

Observe him for a month and if things don't improve you see someone. Is your Mom or the mother's mom not available....sisters or any female in your family?

I don't really know what you mean by his mother left on worldly adventure but she's his mother and you should tell her that your boy doesn't fart. She will know what to do. Or you ask your own mom or other parents around you. It seems like constipation which should be solved if you just try to get him fruits, beans and eggs for a few days

Just add more food containing a substantial amount of fiber to his diet like Yam, Potatoes, Unripe plantain, Beans, Eba etc. Add a lot of vegetables to the soup you prepare like okra, bitter leaf, Ugu etc. Rice, Noodles, Golden morn lack fiber and might not be the best. Milk causes constipation for some.
