The American Bradley has the same form factor with a BMP. Uparmored, RWS and all the other shebang.

If R&grin was a thing for Nigeria, we could have effective 'battle taxis' without breaking the bank.

Exactly. The fv101, fv103 and fv107 are already good platforms if utilized appropriately and properly.
For people clamouring for IFVs, i tell you what, those IFVs ain't gonna win you this war in no time. That's a misperception of things on ground. We got a whole lotta Vickers mk. 3 MBTs and T 55s prior to the purchase of T 72m1 and VT4 tanks. Those older MBTs would've ended this war quickly if they were utilized appropriately. We all saw what Late. Lt-Col Abu Ali did with the 272 tank battalion's T 72s. It takes determination and commitment to the cause, to win a war of attrition.

Honestly, whoever suggested the Army to buy VT 4 tanks, did the right thing. The VT4 is the perfect MBT for the Nigerian army. Unless we want, a k2 panther or leopard 2 tanks, which I don't think we can get.
The VT4 MBT should be purchased in more quantities, upgraded and start a manufacturing plant here in Nigeria. We need to leverage on our relationship with Norinco.

Exactly, Nigeria does not lack money. Nigeria lacks leadership, accountability, management, transparency, quality followership and criticism.
Nigeria is killing itself slowly and painfully.

Nigeria lacks money to properly fund our military. It costs billions of dollars to procure equipment buy spares and train soldiers.

Nigerian lacks money and also lacks monetary discipline.

IFVs are a far more effective system than a Tank in COIN operations.

Modern IFVs carry a 30mm, ATGM and still transports 9 fully kitted troops. They are faster than a Tank, easily maintainable than a Tank. They also cover larger areas, and can be used for reconnaissance.

War is not won by determination, but by employing the right strategies, tactics with the right mix of equipment.

A very good and recent example is the war between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

There is no substitute for employing the right mix of equipment.

What is the national budget of Nigeria?

There is money in Nigeria. We got resources, we got the ability to make the money and build the economy. There is no way that a country with 200 million people, produces a large amount of oil, which is a major resource, produces alotta agricultural products be poor. Nigeria is not poor. Nigeria is extremely mismanaged. We might be broke in some instances, cause having economic crisis once in a while is usual in economies around the world is not unusual, but Nigeria ain't poor, Nigerians are poor because we are mismanaged and extremely corrupt. Verdammt.
It's not about the budget. Look, imagine you're a school club president, let's say a high school science club president . You're given 20k to manage your club in a term. You mismanaged the money, you got bright students with potentials that can help improve the club, but you don't even look inward. You mismanaged club taxes. At the end of the term, after laundering all your finances, you go about borrowing to fund next term budget. You don't know who to hold accountable, your club members don't even know what last term money was used for because of lack of transparency.

No IGR
Mismanagement
Corruption
Unaccountable individuals
Lack of transparency

But you have resources, you have the money flowing around with no control. You mismanaged taxes.

That's what I meant. Nigeria ain't poor.

Negative. The platforms in a COIN context are on par because the IFV gets to transport troops, which is an advantage to tanks. Mind you the merkava mk. 4 can carry troops too, so let's not generalise this tank stuff. Let's be only on the Nigerian context.

Nigerian tanks carry 125mm weaponry, 12.7mm, 7.62 mm, 9k119 refleks ATGMs. Yeah, they are faster than tanks but not all. Vt4 tanks go for 70km/hr and cover 500 km distance without external fuel. They are both good for recon considering the thermal sights on the platform.

Determination is key. When I said determination, i covered everything. Determination translates to will, will translates to been dedicated to employ the right services and equipments to achieve your goals.

Nigeria's greatest resource ain't oil, ain't gold, ain't Iron ore neither cocoa nor cassava and rice. Our greatest resource is our people. That population alone, gives us the capability to eclipse anyone. We can leverage on our population and it will become a great capability or we let it become our liability. AFN fuel the propaganda of dead media houses like Sahara, an incident like that would've attracted a statement from DHQ with blurred images, that way, people will have a reference point to counter Sahara.

The down side of the armed forces media inefficiency is that it makes them appear weak at the same time embolden non-state actors otherwise would be scared to dare, AFN isn't helping themselves so you can't blame Vultures like Sahara.

Like I told you earlier, no amount of determination would win you are war.

Wars are won through strategy, tactics and the right equipment.

Tanks have a very low rate of fire when compared to IFVs.

Tanks require Infantry protection.

Tank ammunitions are expensive when compared to IFVs

Tank maintenance is not flexible like an IFV.

Tanks are generally more expensive to deploy.

Tanks are slower, consume more diesel and cannot cover the distance an IFV would cover.

Tanks require auxiliary vehicles to deploy them to the front lines.

Tanks are not recon vehicles as they don't have the profile or speed or maneuverability to perform reconnaissance missions.

Tanks cost 4 times the IFV.

If an IFV were to get stuck in the same manner as this APC, would it not be abandoned by troops? Would the bandits not have all the time they need to burn it down? When that happens, will you then start clamoring for the deployment of tanks to kill individual bandits? When the opportunity arises for the bandits and they get to burn a tank, what other platform would you advise the military go for?

What particular armor do these bandits operate that 12.7mm or 14.5mm won't penetrate? These guys practically move around with motorcycles.

Even US wasn't moving around with only IFVs in Afghanistan. Despite many r as nkls getting damaged in Iraq, humvees were still being deployed.
There is no platform the Saudis and the Emiratis haven't lost in Yemen yet they haven't stopped deploying APCs.

The bandits are everywhere at the same time and ambushes are very easy for them to execute, our poorly built bases are also contributing to the losses we are incurring.

Stick to what you know, Humvees come in variants, all the variants deployed to the frontline are amoured while those running logistics in secured areas are not.
US will not be stup!d to use Hilux or any soft skin to dominate a 12.7mm threat environment, never! perhaps in the 50's not anymore.

That corrupt politicians are stealing scarce resources doesn't mean you have enough resources to go round.
$1b is insanely huge when stolen by a politician, conversely, if you inject the same $1b to carter for Nigeria's population & landmass, it cant complete 800kms of federal roads.

Algeria with only AQIM as a major threat spent $10b annualy on their military consistently for 10yrs that earned them the number 2 spot in Africa.

Nigeria has never disbursed $10b for capital expenditure a year let alone use it to service the military alone, note the word "disbursed" not "Budget", I hope you understand the difference.

The gas infrastructure ongoing in Nigeria, Akk project valued at $2.3b was borrowed, Bodo bridge (Longest in Africa) at N120b , borrowed by half, Lagos-Ibadan, borrowed, Nigeria cannot afford a $10b Capital expenditure in a fiscal year today, thats a fact!!

Therefore, Nigeria is a poor country where corrupt politicians steal from the meagre inflow its this reason Nigeria earned a spot on the world bank IDA program as a poor country.
