Oga u did not upgrade any account, otherwise the banker responsible for your kyc will seriously be held responsible for it when need arises for it. Learn and stop arguing what you don't know
I will ignore you instead of arguing with your kind that sit in their houses and know what others are doing.

So do me a favour and get the fvck out of my mention.

It is part of Know Your Customer (KYC). This verification is done on every new account to establish the intention and location of the owner of the account in case there need for visitation. Again the banker is gonna write visitation report of the customer. The color of the building, the gate and all those details are for visitation report because the banker is so lazy to go and see things by himself.
I think giving your bvn number should be enough. Giving out such descriptions make you a soft target if your account is loaded.

There's is something suspicious I noticed. A friend went for a bank upgrade which I accompanied him.
While he made available the documents needed, I noticed he was ask questions and one of the questions which got my attention was concerning his address.
They were interested in his address and the lady even asked "if one needs to find you, is this the address that will work?"

At the marketing room he told me he was asked the description of the building he resides in like the color, bungalow or story, gate colour

So to those who are enlightened on this, my question is why is such information needed especially the details of his residence?.
Is there a reason for this?
They will not do physical verification so they want him to do it for them.

Except he is applying for a loan, a bank has no business knowing the colour of your gate or doing house verification.

Your hard-earned money is with them so if anything, it is the customer that should be asking for their MD's exact house address incase they run away with his money.

Nonsense.
You think you are wise? Ok continue.

So if you commit fraud tomorrow and efcc asks the bank to produce your verified address information nko? Or you don't know that banks are charged millions for not doing proper KYC?
Are you saying that in a developed country like America, the FBI or CIA depends on banks to provide them with residential address of people who committed fraud?

so how will he visit the house without proper description and address?
Visit the address written on the form, if he doesn't find the person there, state it on the report and let his head of marketing or branch head decide if the account should be opened, upgraded or not

You realize this question is rhetorical right? How can you compare FBI/CIA to Nigerian police?

KYC and KYCB are done at the point of opening account, so if your ways are not straight, the bank won't even open an account for you in the first instance talkless of the account being loaded.

I thought you said EFCC? So are you saying banks are doing KYC and asking for the colour of your gate and the colour of your house because the security agencies in charge of tracking a fraduaster down incase of any fraudulent activity are ineffective?

Bank agents are meant to visit the customer, take pics if possible and make their own findings, not asking the customer for gate colour or house model. For your question, I'm sure you can answering it yourself

This which in itself is bad practice of trying to cut corners by the banks against regulatory directory.
