In the time immemorial, the strong countries strived to enslave the weaker countries. That's the norm then, nothing much to do by those stronger countries than to go about conquering weaker nations and install a leader from the strong nation to be a ruler over them and at the same time pick some strong men and women among the conquered nation to be their slaves or give them out as gifts to influential people in the strong nations. That was the norms then, nobody see anything bad in it. Even religious groups supported it and so many references in the Bible and Quran about slaves. The world has evolved from the dark age to the age of enlightenment, age of knowledge and inquisition. Now, we are in the age of information technology cummed the "age of awareness and reasoning".

Nigeria get archaeological sites? No single tribe has any tangible historical records in brick and mortar, in writing, in pottery... on ground. Only Benin manage get some kind thing.
Infact naija now be like archaeological site the way everywhere scatter scatter with unbarred road everywhere.

During the Roman Empire Africa wasn't enslaved. Africa was undiscovered. Their slaves came from the territories they conquered and took over.

Once the Romans enter a city they take the young men and women as slaves and leave the weak in the society and then put a Roman ruler over them. In the times of Jesus, many Jews were slaves and their territories were part of the Roman Empire controlled by Herod. It was Roman soldiers dt led jesus to the cross and tied him up.

In ancient Rome very few of the slaves were of Sub-Saharan African(black) descent, most coming from Germanic regions like Brittania(England), Gaul(France and Spain) and some parts of Germany. Slaves also came from Cartage(North African region) and parts of the middle east. Basically places where Rome either annexed or outright conquered.

Now that you mentioned this, I remember reading an article that said the ancient Romans were racially tolerant.

As long as you were a citizen regardless of your skin colour,you were treated right.

I admired that about them.

Some were possibly of Nigerian origin.

They were West Africans, and were the famous Moors of history.

''History confirms that the Moors ruled in Europe -- primarily Spain and Portugal -- for almost 700 years. They were known for their influence in European culture, but not many people know that the Moors were actually Europeans of African descent.
