When something is taken out of context it becomes a CON.

What qualifies the statement is context and that context is COMPARISON to Equatorial rain forest we have in the South. So by comparison the terrain is seemingly a flat land in reality it is NOT.

And if you are in doubt ask or research Google maps satellite is your friend. Where is the Sambisa forest please and what's the terrain there.

Nuff said.

More than once, SamuelAnyawu has said on this forum that the northeast is a flat land where you can see kilometers around you and he is not the only one I know of to have said that.

Northern Borno and Lake Chad are geographically flat arid land with wetlands, islands, and rivers. These environmental factors were exploited by ISWAP for offensive and defensive reasons particularly against ground operations by the military.

There might have been no need for the reinforcement if the base was built to reasonable standard and the ambush might have been avoided.
When the enemy can predict that you will send reinforcement to help your poorly built bases, they will definitely consider amusing the reinforcement and that was what happened rather than they using those extra men to press the attack against the base.

Reinforcement occur for so many reasons and it happens frequently in various theatres around the world which I believe you know, you can never stamp out reinforcement.

Video of Tigray Defense Force(TDF) shooting down an Ethiopian Mi-35. If that is a manpad then I think Egypt is already in the play.

Definitely, but once the scenario surrounding reinforcement is very predictable, expect ambush.

It's high time we rally support from ECOMOG and AU or even the UN to come assist us with both men and equipment; if we can rally about 10,000 contingents of these regional forces to take on these terrorists head-on it will go a very long way in this war. It's getting obvious that the military is overwhelmed/overstretched coupled with the fact that they're heavily underfunded especially the Nigerian Army. We should tuck in this big brother abi na giant of Africa mantra in our pockets and seek for assistance anyway and anywhere we could this war has already lingered for too long we can't build a nation in a perpetual state of internal-war.

Nonsense.

My comment is directed at the person that is saying it as if Maiduguri, Marte and Askari Uba is less than 30 minutes drive from each other.

There is no way the same Boko Haram squad will attack Maiduguri, attack a location close to Maiduguri, then attack Marte, then from Marte to Askari Uba. Even such a thing does not happen in Hollywood.
thank God. Prnigeria just published this even it did not report everything
officer told PRNigeria that the terrorists were ‘misbehaving after their heavy losses.’

The source said: “The ISWAP terrorists, who invaded the Askira Uba town destroyed telecommunication masts with guns and other firearms in their possession, forcing residents to flee.

“A military commander was killed in an ambush while leading troops on reinforcement operation. Some soldiers were also killed.

“Another group of terrorists attacked Mulai village, close to Maiduguri and rustled some cattle while another gang of fighters attacked a communication mast and health centre in Buni Yadi, Yobe State and carted away generator set and drugs.

“Meanwhile, at Ngamdu, in Kaga Local Government of Borno, ISWAP terrorists suffered a devastating blow in the hands of the troops, unfortunately, three Special Force operatives paid the Supreme sacrifice during the encounter.”

oga it was not all about base defence if the solider could fight 16 to 20 gt with 6-9 guntruck then it is not be because of base . The military may predicted that iswap may likely succeed if reinforcement was not send and remember the ammo with that base was not large. Sending reinforcement will reduce the load and tension on troop station there.

Over the years NOBODY digs trenches anymore not in this modern day. It's like comparing DOS to WINDOWS 10, they are world's apart. And particularly not for forward operating bases.

The HESCO container system see pics below. Very easy to manufacture locally it's a combination of of of wire mesh around , steel framework ( easily collapsible) and synthetic fibre bag ( very thick Ghana must go bag )

You can place them on top of each other and get up 6 metres of elevation and even higher very easily.

See pics below

This is it... And even better is that this can be manufactured in-house as all that is required is readily available.

Troop and base protection should be top priority.

Is the US not in play?. China is challenging in Djibouti. I think Ethiopia knows what to do. Unfortunately it has to be an alliance with Iran, China and to an extent, Russia.

This is an absolutely bad idea. Pls in every field that has an established profession with processes and standards, always keep SHUT with the layman common sense stuff that people have thought about and dismissed or tried and failed.
Besides there is already MNJTF in place.

AU nations are lacking in the basics of military resources to provide assistance to Nigeria.

It is going to be so expensive as to potentially swallow the entire defense budget.

Pls calculate it yourself; salary and allowances and aircraft cost to provide rotation for just 10,000 troops from ten African countries.
It is the height of Nigerian stupidity. Very bad idea informed by social media escalation of a few developments on the battlefield.

What Nigeria needs is more CJTF, more training for CJTF and more creative defending of towns unsing CJTF as the military are about to start their offensives.

For Nigerian observers of the war on social media, when you read about a new development, quickly look at a map of the theatre and get more info to understand what the big picture is.
Do some thinking about what ISWAP and Nigeria are trying to achieve

Ordinary barbed wires and machine gun nest will significantly blunt the terrorists attacks.

Negative. Hesco bags over barbed wires all day. Even in the counter attack at bonny Island, 1967, barbed wires were extremely detrimental.
Barbed wires in Metele, Borno led to the death of numerous of our troops. A truck go stuck in the barbed wire and blocked the passage of troops and vehicles leading to the death of good men.
We need Hesco bags not pure barbed wires.
