As a 30 year old kalabari I can relate that In the southern region of Nigeria I have never seen any group of lazy, entitled and proud individuals like I see when I am in Port Harcourt. It has become a serious cultural problem which has been ignored for so long. I cant understand why anyone will comfortably want to settle for handouts from another man . I hope that they will wake up one day and realize that hard work and perseverance improves one's chances of success and not thuggery, extortion and laziness

If you know kalabari well go to Obuama(Harristown), kala dekema , degema, abonemma, soku, kula or go westwards to ilelema, okpo, abalama, iddo, buguma, bakana, tombia the character is the same. Many of them dream to move to port harcourt and when they get there they continue the same mindset of begging begging begging. A few of them make some little money and become demi-gods supported by the youths. I have cousins all over who see me as a lost one because I have never lived in port harcourt and I criticize the culture a lot. A culture where people spend so much on funerals but little or nothing on investments or empowering one another. All they do is have children with multiple women, drink and scout for funerals where they will get more free drinks and talk big.

Stop making my state look like it is doing what other tribes and people are not doing using one method or the other. Tinubu’s daughter will use adgeros, Tinubu will use Alphabeta. This is very true i was privileged to work in a company near this community, this is a regular thing they get from all company oil or not as long as you have a running business you are eligible to this and must employ their indigene weather with skill or not this is just 1 among their various demands. if you don't comply trust me your gate will be barricade.

Very foolish post. My community is a host to so many companies in Port Harcourt. I'm aware every year, Intel's dispenses seven cows, 30 bags of rice, groundnut oils and over 10 million naira as their Xmas largess to my community.

Even the coy I work has budgeted over 25 million to attend to our host community in the spirit of the yuletide. In short every year, we send 2 cows, bags of rice, cartons of indomie to our host community. In addition to monetary largess as well. All these are the norm down here. And the companies do it out of goodwill and the need to build a cordial relationship with it's host community.

Who do most Ikwerre youths dis kain thing??They are blessed but I don't understand why they prefer just food,food,food,party,party,party..You will see a grown man of 30 years be sleeping all day and be dragging house rent with his father. Year to year..even the women are not left out. Go to market you will see Ogoni, Kalabari, Akwaibom women hustling..how many Ikwerre women dey hustle?Anyone you manage to see is a either an Eastern woman married to Ikwerre. Na wa oooooo..

Ideally, the community don't need to beg for such, because it might have been captured in the fiscal budget as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). A substantial amount of money might have been earmarked for such.


Though, the company's name is not unveiled, though I believe is one of the multinational company, surely they will accede to their request.

Instead of the youths to ask of scholarship for indigent students, there're asking of bread and butter. It's therefore means, these youths are living for eating and enjoyment. With these youths having this attitude, the baton to be handed to them by the expiring politicians is still a mirage.

Stomach infrastructure. Go to Okirigwe in Sapele early morning and you’ll be scared at the sight of able bodied men and women milling and loitering around doing absolutely nothing! Lazy blokes! That are certain to be hungry at Christmas and will beg to eat!!! Oyel is not drinkable or edible. It takes work to convert oyel to money. They should learn to work!
