Court Remands UNILORIN Student Who Assaulted Female Lecturer by Insidenaija: 7:00pm On Nov 20, 2021
A Magistrate’s Court in Ilorin has remanded one Salaudeen Waliu Aanuoluwa, a 400-level Microbiology student in the Ilorin Correctional Service Centre for allegedly beating up a female lecturer, Mrs Rahmat Zakariyat, Newspremises reports.

Police report revealed that the suspect, had consumed some hard drugs before going to the lecturer’s office, who is his SIWES Industrial Training coordinator.

According to the First Information Report, FIR, the suspect banged the female lecturer’s table, shouting that the lecturer should give him mark for the industrial programme he did not participate in.

Waliu reportedly punched the lecturer when she rejected the demand and beat her to stupor to the extent of breaking the window glass, with an attempt to use the pieces to stab her.

Police report added that the lecturer screaming for help, attracted the attention of the security operatives who thronged to the scene and rescued her from Waliu’s net.

The trial Magistrate, Muhammed Ibrahim, who presided over the matter, ordered Waliu’s remand, while the matter was adjourned to 26th of this month.

Attempted murder

mu2sa2:
What he did was legally and morally wrong based on media reports. But, even on the reports, the evidence does not suggest a case of attempted murder. The suspect was alleged to have punched and kicked the lecturer and she suffered little or no injuries. He's not reported to have used broken glass or other objects. Based on the reports, he should be charged for assault and malicious damage to property. Let's not forget though that lawyers (including "charge & bail" ones) are waiting to be engaged by the suspect and during trial the story can change, even to the extent that the lecturer may look like she should be the one that ought to be arraigned and not the student.

If you make the right decisions you will be rewarded but if you make the wrong decisions you might be remanded .

Good.

While I would state that he is innocent until proven guilty, I would also candidly hope that he is sentenced for the crime of assault because what he did was wrong. Even if he was 'hit by the mug' as many of his defenders state, he should have left the office and gone to the police, and it would have been the lecturer in court as the accused. Instead he attacked, and thus stepped into the trap that the advesary had laid for him.

Also, I would like to once again state my sadness at those who think that their lecturer should be assaulted because of 'mistreatment' In life you will meet a lot of pompous, crude, and need I say evil people. If you can react to them normally without losing your temper, you show great maturity, and great self control. Wishing violence on one's lecturer is the beginning step on a road you would not want to take. And how you react to the rude and pompous lecturers in your school is a preparation for how you would do it in the workspace. If you can handle it without losing your cool...you would make it in the workplace and in life. You would make it as a leader when you have to handle competing egos.

And again, this was not a case of mistreatment. The student was not being asked to leave the university, nor was he being 'unjustly marked' . He missed his SIWES and was being offered a second chance to do his SIWES...which meant an extra year in university.(He also had some carryovers , but that's another story.)

As has been said many times, we also need some more compassion from our lecturers, more help for struggling students, more clarification of certain university policies, better mental health help for problem students, and also ultimately, more funding for our universities.

Again, what this guy did was wrong. And the case is not looking good. He had been pestering his lecturer for ages, he had refused to bring proof of the illness that he claimed that stopped him from doing SIWES, and then he got upset when he was told he had to repeat a year. The lecturer did the right thing by telling him the truth....and he lost his temper for being told that he had to repeat a year. All I would say is how we respond to setbacks in life shows us the kind of person we are. And I don't think I have much sympathy for someone getting angry over an extra year ...to do the practical aspect of his course. The guy was not ready to learn how to handle his failure...and that's a big deficiency in my book.

Good morning.

Here we go again. Drugs abuse has made another youth useless again. It's just a matter of time before he slips into depression. Please say no to drugs. "If you fail to learn from other peoples experience you might become an experience yourself to another"

This guy will loose in every ways. He will loose his studentship, he may likely go to jail, he may never be admitted again by any institutions in Nigeria, he will also loose the public sympathy.

What a waste of life.

I am so happy with this news. How can you beat your lecturer? Something is wrong with some Nigerian youths.

He should be sent to prison for at least 10-18 years.

Effect of meth and hard drugs, babies of late 90 and early 2000, lack of discipline, home training, no regards to their parents and so on, if care is not taken he must be a cultist with empty brain. Imagine laying his filthy hands on lecturer. I weep for their generation. Pls my simple advice, if your friend, brother or any of your relations is taking hard drug(s), beg him to stop, but if he refuses, stop burning your rags bcoz one day, he will need them ( bcoz of kolo, ara or madness)
Good morning good people of God, pls go to church to hear word of God and have a pleasant Sunday

This is just a case of two fighting nah, as either of the two triggered a provocative reactions, I implore the justice to temper clemency in the cause of judgement, not to turn every of the issue on the poor boy..... Being a lecturer do not vindicate her from all that happens, just that she is of the upper case

I condemn his act of beating his lecturer and someone older than him and a woman for that matter. 3 crimes in one.
However the Lecturer should also face punishment from either the court or from the school for throwing a Tea Mug at him which triggered the said beating.

That her action is a violent act that shouldn't go unpunished.
