Most Akwa Ibom oilfields are offshore. (Both shallow and deep) and they are always in number 1 or 2- flip flopping with Delta for top spot.
If you notice- they are one of the few oil producing states that don’t have much issues with oil spills and land degradation.

You better rethink any previous notion that you might have had.

All sovereign nations, no matter how tiny have exclusive navigational and exploratory rights to their territorial waters as well as the right to exploit the natural resources embedded in the shelf of their Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs). Size's got nothing to do with it.
Even a sovereign speck of littoral land will have an EEZ as long as it is a natural landform. That is why some of these old colonial powers like France are clutching hard to their offshore islands not wanting to let go of them.
