Residents Cry Out As Government Demolish Houses In Festac Phase 2 (Photos, Video)

Some homeowners in Festac Phase 2 woke up to their houses being demolished on Sunday morning, 28th November 2021, IgbereTV reports.

This comes one day after an article announced that the Federal Housing Authority will soon begin mass demolition of buildings without approval in Festac Town.

Facebook user, Angel Nkiru took to her page to share photos of houses that have been brought down.

In as much as I sympathize with people that their properties are being demolished, must we put ethnic colouration to everything. Are their not Hausa's and Yoruba's involved.

You can't go about building without the necessary approvals.
Most of the people there have approvals. Ministry of lands give approvals and still demolish. I tire for this country

this is just pure fact. They been see when person dey build they no stop am but few years down the line, they go just come demolish the building and the funny thing is 10 years from now nothing will be constructed on that land, it will be there empty. And also people shld make series of enquiries from Alahusa to know if a land is approved by the state govt to build on rather than waste over 50m in purchasing and erecting a building on a land.
In most cases the house owner dey know the conditions of the land and all that's involved but this our cut conner mentality is what's wrong with us. We'll look for someone to help with a waver or a connection at town planning offices. And he'll not let the agent do the needful after money has exchanged hands. The Oga will tell the boys not to serve the land, but when he leaves office, a new Oga will open the files and this is what it leads to. Mind you, the new Oga too want to steal nio, no be say he wan do the right thing o

It is only in Nigeria that government agents would sell a parcel of land to you, using government documents

The same government that deems it illegal won't stop you from building. After a decade, they would come back and say it's illegal.

Did this people buy the land from a roadside mechanic? Their documents definitely have FHA receipts attached to it. I know someone that has this Phase 2 form from the same FHA

Everything in this country is upside down

May God have mercy .

But I want to understand something.
Assuming that these people bought 'gazzetted' land as claimed - or whatever term the government is using to absolve itself of culpability, is it not in the place of the buildings regulation and town planning agencies to inform and deter them from erecting structures in the said lands?

Why wait till billions have been wasted on the lands before they come in and remind the unfortunate heads that they are occupying an illegal land?
Dont mind them failed system. Local government and state government collected levies on those properties... This is the reason we have collapse building up and down... Because of bad system

Before buying land make inquiry if it's government designated lands or not they people don't have C OF O and can't do anything

How about the Government sealing of thr land and putting a sign post that the place is illegal?

No they will keep quiet and collect money

May God bless that agent abundantly!

People are just heartless selling what they know will bring trouble. The building owners should go after the individuals and their companies.

Pipefitter:
I wanted to buy land there as far back as 2011 through an agent when land there was as cheap as 1 million. The agent that got my flat told me that the place belongs to FHA not Ado royal family as marketed. He said he could have become a millionaire selling land there but his conscience wouldn't let him. I didn't get the land, the money self don finish for data

It is always painful seeing ones earned labor goes up in smoke.
Land issues are tricky in every state in Nigeria.
To test whether a land you purchased is actually genuine and free from encumbrances.
First chart the property direct from the state ministry town planning and urban development.
Second: Make sure your survey plan is registered through the office of Surveyor general of the state office, Not the local government area.
Third: Upon purchase and execution of land sales agreement just file for C of O to start the process of acquiring a C of O for it.
Don't always trust your property negotiations to agents, hire the service of lawyer who has been winning cases.
Your survey plan must be done by a certified Surveyor, possible ask him for his current standing.
If all of this is done, you can at least have something to seek for legal redress.
But Note, that buildings are not demolished without prior notice.
But one vague thing with people who thought they have money, by money I mean tons of cash is not realizing that money without power means nothing.
Get to know the
Attorney general of the state where you are living, just a partner in progress homage visit. Or the governor if you are a business person decline politely not dabble in politics, but just a partner in progress homage visit. Get his hot phone number.
Chief of police of the state., just a homage visit.
State directors of EFCC, NDLEA, FIRS, there touts within these bodies acting out of their directors instruction. On any visit call the director of he is aware of this visit or invitation.

A good and efficient lawyer, ask him the last cases he won especially on land disputes, pay him yearly.

Head of touts within your locality, or get straight to MC Olumo if you are living in Lagos, once in a while weekend kolanut.

Get a separate phone to call these people.
You may need their service at one time or the other to fight the city hall.

Even if the government tells them to stop building, they will bribe the inspectors, continue building and hope for the best.
When one person continues building, it emboldens others that the problems could be sorted. Before you turn around, the whole place is built up.

Hahahaha,

Igbos, make we go back to our region na. I always tell igbos that we be mumu. Only igbos go to other regions and be building magnificent buildings and project. Actually, igbos aren't as intelligent as they think.

Nigeria is a time bomb and tribal issue is chaotic. Don't invest massively in other regions. Do the major stuff in ur region and have sales outlets in other regions.

Play politics to enable us open seaports closer to the east. We don't just have sense.

Lagos belongs to the yorubas and they can make policy as they want. That is their state.
