Most of the people there have approvals. Ministry of lands give approvals and still demolish. I tire for this country

Most and not all. The "Most", armed with their original documents like C of O, should sue the agency demolishing their property.

Well the people themselves left it so late cos they can take the government to court and they will win thier case

Let's agree that the buildings are illegal

Why did it take FHA more than a decade to stop this?

Why wasn't anyone prosecuted for selling the land then? Or would someone just spend millions of naira to buy a property without being assured it's legit?

Nigeria is just like that. The Ikoyi building had approval too. The government saw him taking it to 21 stories. But when it collapsed, that's when we will hear that they didn't approve is.

But I want to understand something.
Assuming that these people bought 'gazzetted' land as claimed - or whatever term the government is using to absolve itself of culpability, is it not in the place of the buildings regulation and town planning agencies to inform and deter them from erecting structures in the said lands?

Why wait till billions have been wasted on the lands before they come in and remind the unfortunate heads that they are occupying an illegal land?

Read bove where its was stated there is a system of having government documents and same government will still destroy your properties , there is more to this my brother.

This comes one day after an article announced that the Federal Housing Authority will soon begin mass demolition of buildings without approval in Festac Town.

Facebook user, Angel Nkiru took to her page to share photos of houses that have been brought down.

It's about corruption within the government. A DG or whatever would approve and sell the lands in a particular administration, when that one is gone, many years, another DG in another administration would come and say that what the former one did is illegal, shouldn't have been done and bla bla bla, then come for demolition. So government officials use their position to scam folks, they would leave them to build, then another comes and screams blue murder, that it wasn't done right. That's what happens in most of these things. Those guys have papers from the same FHA for those structures but they were told that they are on their own. And same government wouldn't arrest and bring the officials that did the scam to book. They have shared the loot. It was all a plot.

. I am a full blooded Igbo. But I am saying that our people should stop developing other people's place for them. Go to your home state and build. You can live in Lagos as a tenant. All these lands were acquired from FHA but they are coming to destroy it again. They are deliberately doing it. Taking advantage of the Igbo man's despration to acquire property. Let them continue to develop Lagos and Abuja for people that hate them with perfect hatred. Awon mumu developers.

So why lamenting when you know you will survive? Nobody should have brought the demolition to nairaland then. Most of you just spew trash willingly.

Those igbos whose buildings were fell knows what huge loss they've incurred and the donkey years it took then to gather the money. The point is that, igbo are too proud to face reality. Stop dragging Lagos with Yoruba people, go home and develop your region.

Nobody will demolish your properties anyhow over there but no, you won't listen. You rather waste your money building houses that would later be demolished and the cycle continues.

Let me burst you, Lagos State government barely give non-Yorubas the c/o which means the land they bought is just a rent in disguise. The chance of a non-Yoruba getting the c/o in Lagos is 1/1000. If you doubt me, find out for yourself.

I like the way you put it , at least you are hiding your hatred and jealousy.

Festac and especially amuwo odofi properties are 95% owned by Igbos and this act will not change anything , so its you that hate that have the greater burden , hatred will only eat you from the inside and destroy you while the person you hate keep move upward.

Before buying land make sure it's not government own? Because government always warn people but the refuse to hear and our government na anytime the wake up they go dey pro-active. Before buying land make inquiry if it's government designated lands or not they people don't have C OF O and can't do anything

How does one know it's government own land? And what are the required land approvals one should make research on before mounting a building? Any insight will be highly welcomed.

Youngman stop this your victim mentality claims...the law is the law...you can't proof it is only property owned by Easterners that were demolished...what you should be proposing is that severe punitive measures be taken against land peddlers that are in the business of selling government lands ofcourse with active connivance with same government officials and corrupt judicial officers.

These land peddlers are all over Lagos and the government cannot claim not to be aware of their illegal operations over the years...my madam is a lawyer and she said these people have government officials and judges working with them.

It is only in Nigeria that government agents would sell a parcel of land to you, using government documents

The same government that deems it illegal won't stop you from building. After a decade, they would come back and say it's illegal.

Did this people buy the land from a roadside mechanic? Their documents definitely have FHA receipts attached to it. I know someone that has this Phase 2 form from the same FHA

Everything in this country is upside down

Stay away from government properties. cool

How can you go an buy land from "Government Agents" when you're not either an illiterate, idiot or deceitful yourself. How can you go and buy land without first running a search to ascertain the land is not under government acquisition or encumbrance? At the point where you're securing your building approval, Governor's consent is ideally a prerequisite, but trust Nigerian to circumvent the process (bribe giver and bribe takers), then when government now come, excuses like you give here become the order of the day.

@bolded part, just shows your ignorance. Is that how government lands are acquired?

It is run by the Ministry of Lands and Housing

There is no governor to give any consent

I wanted to buy land there as far back as 2011 through an agent when land there was as cheap as 1 million. The agent that got my flat told me that the place belongs to FHA not Ado royal family as marketed. He said he could have become a millionaire selling land there but his conscience wouldn't let him. I didn't get the land, the money self don finish for data

That is what some of these people living in denial will shy away from acknowledging. A simple search at Lands will tell who the property belongs to.

I believe they knew what they were getting into.... they just fooled themselves into the "anything goes in Nigeria" narrative
