A Nigerian lawyer narrated his experience with a man who was imprisoned for a crime he did not commit, Igbere TV reports.

The lawyer, identified as Nnamdi took to Twitter on Monday to narrate how met the man and how he was able to secure his release after three years of meeting him.

The man was remanded by the Magistrate court on a count of kidnap and other related offences. The man had told him he didn’t do it which led the lawyer to take up the cases on Pro bono.

Three years later the man was declared innocent, discharged, and acquitted.

Sharing photos of the man, he wrote; “I went to the Magistrate court 3years ago to get a date and I saw this young man. He was crying and praying the rosary. I went and sat beside him and asked him why he was crying.

“He kept on saying “I didn’t do it, I didn’t do it”. He was remanded by the Magistrate on a count of kidnap and other related offenses. No complainant.

“He told me his story. I believed him. I told him I’d take it up on pro bono. He laid there and started praying for me. I pushed for his matter to be charged at the High Court.

“Today the 29th of November, 2021, the Judge of the High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has confirmed he didn’t do it and has declared him innocent. Discharged and Acquitted.

“It can only be God. For the sake of God and Humanity…”

embarassed They will jail innocent people while leaving out a 69 year old cocaine trafficker, a criminal policeman/tailor for a Dubai based fraudster, a bribe taking governor and a terrorist/kidnapping negotiator, only in Nigeria. Spits on Lugard and Great Britain.

cool

Between 1 and 5 percent of people in prisons are wrongfully convicted. Glad the man found freedom.

And there we have it, folks. Someone shared with us a cool, inspiring story intended to uplift and inspire — something greatly needed during a time when we are plagued by so much negativity, injustice and division- and we just turn around and spit on it!

Rather than reflect on the positivity and beauty embodied by the kind and compassionate gesture exhibited through the Lawyer's actions, or even take some joy in reveling in the idea that perhaps humanity is not completely doomed, we instead politicize the story and engage in a full fledged battle between libs and tards or apc and pdps or whatever the cutesy clever little terms of endearment are these days. It's ridiculous. It's stupid and childish and completely inappropriate and I am fuc*ing sick of it!

For those of you who wish to keep the embers glowing in this pointless neverending schoolyard tiff between APC and PDP, I urge you to please go take your squabble back behind the schoolhouse and neither of you comes back until both sides have either reached a mutual consensus or have killed each other off completely! The rest of the nation is done with you and neither political party wants either of your members back. We have moved on and so we encourage you to do the same.

The sad thing is not just that he suffered for a crime he did not commit, he may also have inherited a criminal mindset to enable him survive and meet up with time.

Nice one sir! God bless

I sometimes wonder if Govt officials are readings the news. How can they be aware that innocent people or people awaiting trial are still locked up in prisons and they are not doing anything

This is really sad!
Let everyone just learn how to stay out of trouble o

I don't know what Nigerian police and court gain in incriminating innocent people. Some of these cases clearly point out that the crime wasn't committed by certain individuals yet, the court will be careless about it and still keep the innocent in custody for many years.

The worst and most sad feeling in this life is the feeling of indignation. I crime you know that you didn't commit but because of care free attitude and wickedness of certain police and court officials, they will keep on adjourning the case and keep having innocent citizens in custody for very long period of time.

May we never ever fall victim of circumstances in this country so as not to wallow in prison hell over a long period of time for a crime we know nothing about.
