Re: 7 Nigerians That Shaped Entertainment Worldwide. by 2O17: 6:47pm On Dec 03, 2021
This list makes no sense. Nas a Nigerian?

You need to do some research.

I saw a video of some American College students partying and guess what? They played that Do me I do you song by P-Square. WizKid's Ojuelegba was played too.

You better add P-Square to the list.

Dear OP,all these people you mentioned are of Nigerian descent. I doubt if any of them grew up in Nigeria.

These people grew up in Nigeria and they took their music globally

1. Fela (Even University of Liverpool get Fela music for their curriculum)
2. Sinach (This woman won the song of the year in the GMA Dove awards. The Dove award is one of the biggest gospel award in the world. "Way Maker is still the biggest Nigerian gospel song to go international).
3. Wiz Kid
4. Davido

The likes of 2-face, Nigga Raw, Sound Sultan, Julius Agwu, Banky W, Idris abdulkareem, sunny nneji, etc deserve appreciation. These are people who kept on doing the art despite Nigerian's preference for Western music. I think 2face`s African Queen and p-square's Busy Body were the game changer. They got Nigerian's to listen to Nigerian acts.

Throwback:
Nas is not Nigerian.

Just that his father took up a Yoruba name (Oludara) during the Africanism consciousness that enveloped black America in the 50s and 60s.

Nas is Nasil not Nasir.
You're right about him not being Nigeria, but his name is definitely Nasir, not Nasil

Nas is not a Nigerian and it is Nasir, not Nasiru tongue !! The 'Olu Dara' in his surname was given to his Father (Charles Jones III) by a Yoruba priest whom he met when he visited Nigeria. Nas rapped about it in his song ' bridging the gap'. The lyrics below

'Then he got grown, changed his name to Olu
Come on, tell 'em 'bout the places you gone to
I been to Saudi Arabia, Mozambique
Madagascar, Paris, Greece
The Middle Africa is where we lived
Better known as Queenbridge'
God bless you.

No mention of Majek Fashek?
At his prime, Majek was tha bomb. Watched one of his perfomance in America on Youtube, you need to see how Americans danced to his beats.
I only wished he never abused those substance.
May our good God continue to rest his soul.

Nas is not in anyway a Nigerian. His dad was a Bishop who happened to be a neighbor to a Nigerian minister. The neighbors (i.e, the Nigerian) had a child called Nasir oluwadare,. Nas' dad loved the name and had to name his son after him.

Let's not be evenly yoke with fake info.
Nas dad a bishop? Please where did you hear this one? Nas dad has always been and still is a musician... He traveled the world in the 60s and 70s, that's when he adopted that name. He is Muslim, so he named his sons, Nasir and Jabari... He didn't name Nas after any neighbor's son.
