crimes cannot be inherited. Genetics could account for physical traits that I could understand from basic biology, but not for the way the mind works. Are you saying we are all born without choices to be good or evil? And that our genetic makeup will override our willingness to either be law abiding or not? So then why do we try and punish people for their crimes when we could as well pardon them for labouring under the perils of a genetically machinated and imposed set of instructions they are not responsible for. After all, the law recognises mental illness as an excuse for certain crimes when it can be proven. Genetically imposed behaviour will be quite as plausible an excuse as mental illness.

I share this sentiment too. A person that wants to kill does not only need a gun to achieve his purpose. Knives kill too. But the rate of killings will increase with gun because its more handy and can dispense death over a distance without the fear of a fist fight by the handler.

Some motive in the past have been suicidal, people still don't get checked every week for suicidal tendencies so that's a likely occurrence for a future motive.
My idea was about deterrence. If you have ever been around someone that's into interrogation, you'd know one of the best technique to get criminals to corporate is to go after something or someone they like. Deep down they are still humans.
if the next mass murder is shot on sight and his / her guardians are made to pay by serving time. The next one will have a deep thought before shooting people in public.
