You can see Yoruba are special breed, even during slavery, he managed to free himself and turn things around for himself.

It hard to find other Africans achieving this feat.

What about the UsainAfonjaBolt of Ilorin, why did he not free himself from small small Fulani boys and disappeared with the speed of light?! grin

Alufa is a christian word not Alfa and moreover that is not a shop but a worship centre.

Do you know Yoruba Muslim staged massive slave rebellion in Bahia Brazil. Yorubas are not cowards, we are fighters!

Leadership of Slave Rebellion Bahia

Ahuna - Ahuna was a Nagô(Yoruba) slave who lived in Salvador. He traveled frequently to Santo Amaro where his owner had a sugar plantation. It has been suggested that his presence was a key factor in the timing of the rebellion.

Pacífico Lucatan- Lucatan was a Nagô slave who worked as a tobacco roller. He was in prison at the time of the rebellion, and one of the main goals was to free him.

Luís Sanim - Sanim was a Nupe slave who also worked as a tobacco roller. He ran a fund where each member contributed a day's wages for slave labor, presumably monthly, and this money was divided into three parts: one part for cloth to make Muslim garments; a part to masters' portions of slave wages—since Malê slaves (Yoruba) did not work on Fridays; and one part to help buy letters of manumission.

Manoel Calafate - Calafate travelled to Santo Amaro to mobilize rebels on the eve of the uprising. He took an active part in the fighting and appears to have been killed in Palace Square..

Elesbão do Corma - Elesbão do Corma was a Hausa freedman who was known in the African community as Dandará. He owned a tobacco shop which was also used as a meeting place for Malês. He also traveled through the Recôncavo for his business, and brought the Muslim faith to slaves on the plantations there.

Males and Nagos are Yorubas

Yoruba are simply the best, if I'm not Yoruba, I will be jealous of them

So how is this different from the other thread where Igbo cultural outing in China was being discussed and you termed it "inferiority complex"?

Usman Dan fodio did not bring Islam to yoruba land, why do u think call Islam "esin imale" in Yoruba land?
It's because the traders from Mali brought Islam to yoruba land that's why they call it esin imale(religion from Mali)

Yes Dan fodio did not bring Islam to yoruba land, but about that imale which Yoruba's call Islam, it is of two versions

1. Esin imale/imole- meaning, religions of the Malian when our ancestors were dealing with Malian merchants in 15th and 16th century

2. Esin imale/ imole- broken further Esin Imo lile which means a religion that is hard to learn or religion which is taught in hard ways, this is because of the torture those Islamic scholars / teachers met on their students.

Personally I believe the second theory, because there is a funny adage in Yoruba land that really back it up.

Oju imole ko kuro loti.

which means despite the hard teachings, muslims still have soft spot for alcohol.

Alufa is a Yoruba word derived from Arabic to denote a priest.
Arabic written form itself developed anew through Hebrew's doctrine of God about 512CE. So, the word Alfa was also found in Ancient Hebrew that is older in documentation than Arabic as Luph/Liph(lufa),which is also simiiar to Olifa/Onifa whichisPriests of Ifa (Oluifa without contraction).

Yoruba language is complex and very old historically. Infact, Babalawo as word whichmeans, "one who is a member of Yoruba religious sect tohelp verify";priest came to into existence around 1940s through Abeokuta people.

This name had no been in existence before until 1940s and today, Adifa or adafa has become in usage as well for Yoruba priests. While pasito has also become used for pastor( christian) priest, which is derived from English word
