Fact-Check on Video: Did White Helicopter Deliver Weapons to Fulani Herdsmen for Banditry in the Forest?

CLAIM:
A video has gone viral on social media platforms, especially WhatsApp claiming that Fulani bandits are taking receipt of weapons from the Nigerian military in a forest.

VERDICT:
The content of the video and the narrative that followed is misleading as there is INSUFFICIENT evidence to prove the claim.

FULL TEXT:
Following the emergence of an unverified video, the social media platforms, including WhatsApp, Facebook and youtube have been awash with the clip, claiming that Fulani Bandits were receiving weapons in an unidentified forest.

This claim is emerging in the wake of insecurity that has continued to plague Northern parts of the country due to the gruesome activities of some unscrupulous bandits, kidnappers and terrorists.

VERIFICATION:
Using Chrome extensions Invid fake news debunker, PRNigeria extracted image keyframes contained in the video and used the results to undertake a Google, Bing, Yandex and Tineye reverse image research. No result linked the clip to any credible media platform or Youtube video channel which means that the source of the video is not trusted as there was no other contextual result linked to the clip.

The initial youtube channel that posted the video linked to the result of the reverse image search, was a channel that had secessionist agitator Nnamdi Kanu’s photo on its profile.

Furthermore, using the video analysis tool of the Invid verifier extension, PRNigeria examined the clip on the channel which YouTube flagged the channel’s content licensing as FALSE.

PRNigeria further did a content analysis of the clip including background sound and visual representations and concluded that the background dialect sounded strange to a Nigerian language much less Fulani.

Similarly, while the helicopter and background sound seem superimposed on the video, the vegetation showed some trees and even tall grasses plants that are not common in the North, especially at this period.

PRNigeria also reached out to a top security officer who confirmed that the Nigerian Military does not have the kind of branded aircraft seen in the clip and the emblazoned safety jackets worn by the actors are not by men of the Nigerian security services.

The senior military officer said: “The scene in the video is not in Nigeria. We don’t have that type of helicopter in the inventory of the Nigerian Airforce (NAF) and none of the security services wears that kind of emblazoned safety jacket that could easily expose their brand identity. That helicopter did not land anywhere in Nigeria.”

CONCLUSION:
There is INSUFFICIENT evidence to prove the claims about the viral video, therefore, based on metadata analysis and other forensic investigations, the claim is both false and misleading.

I can't say whether the video is true or not, but the present government has shown us beyond resonable doubt whose side they belong in fight against bandits.

You could have told us where the event took place, whose helicopter was shown in the video, who are the recipients of what the chopper came to deliver.

According to some quarter, those people inside the video were speaking Fulfude. Which tribe speak Fulfude in Nigeria?

You said you contacted Nigeria senior military officer to verify the news, what else would you expect the person to say, to claim is true?

Almost all signs of recognizing who the chopper belong to was removed which could be deliberate.

First u claimed the video did not come from a reputable media organisation. Sorry oga dummy,im this age of android phones with video tech, must every news and video come from come a media organisation. Even two fighting or woman twerking does not come from media organisation.

Second you claimed you searched Facebook, bing, goggle, Twitter and youtube and found no such video. Only for you to now claim the original source of the video is youtube. What a contradiction.

Lastly you claimed that the helicopter was superimposed on the video but failed to explain why the bandits were bending down and why the grasses were affected by the wind from the helicopter rotors.

The video took place in China.

Anytime Nigerian military especially the army comes out to debunk something just know that that thing they are denying is true.

A closer look at the topography of the video background knows that the place looks like north.

Maybe be *ubanka kwuo* spoken in the video is a Chinese language

What a load of bumkum. You think you can confuse us by throwing in so many big and irrelevant words, dancing around the subject and still failed to convince us.
First u claimed the video did not come from a reputable media organisation. Sorry oga dummy,im this age of android phones with video tech, must every news and video come from come a media organisation. Even two fighting or woman twerking does not come from media organisation.

Second you claimed you searched Facebook, bing, goggle, Twitter and youtube and found no such video. Only for you to now claim the original source of the video is youtube. What a contradiction.

Lastly you claimed that the helicopter was superimposed on the video but failed to explain why the bandits were bending down and why the grasses were affected by the wind from the helicopter rotors.

To make ur explanation even more dumber you claimed that trees and long grasses cannot be found any where in the north. So is sambisa forest and other thick forest in the north made of wood.

Fact-Check: Did White Helicopter Deliver Weapons to Fulani Herdsmen for Banditry in the Forest?

CLAIM:
A video has gone viral on social media platforms, especially WhatsApp claiming that Fulani bandits are taking receipt of weapons from the Nigerian military in a forest.

VERDICT:
The content of the video and the narrative that followed is misleading as there is INSUFFICIENT evidence to prove the claim.

FULL TEXT:
Following the emergence of an unverified video, the social media platforms, including WhatsApp, Facebook and youtube have been awash with the clip, claiming that Fulani Bandits were receiving weapons in an unidentified forest.

This claim is emerging in the wake of insecurity that has continued to plague Northern parts of the country due to the gruesome activities of some unscrupulous bandits, kidnappers and terrorists.

VERIFICATION:
Using Chrome extensions Invid fake news debunker, PRNigeria extracted image keyframes contained in the video and used the results to undertake a Google, Bing, Yandex and Tineye reverse image research. No result linked the clip to any credible media platform or Youtube video channel which means that the source of the video is not trusted as there was no other contextual result linked to the clip.

The initial youtube channel that posted the video linked to the result of the reverse image search, was a channel that had secessionist agitator Nnamdi Kanu’s photo on its profile.

Furthermore, using the video analysis tool of the Invid verifier extension, PRNigeria examined the clip on the channel which YouTube flagged the channel’s content licensing as FALSE.

PRNigeria further did a content analysis of the clip including background sound and visual representations and concluded that the background dialect sounded strange to a Nigerian language much less Fulani.

Similarly, while the helicopter and background sound seem superimposed on the video, the vegetation showed some trees and even tall grasses plants that are not common in the North, especially at this period.

PRNigeria also reached out to a top security officer who confirmed that the Nigerian Military does not have the kind of branded aircraft seen in the clip and the emblazoned safety jackets worn by the actors are not by men of the Nigerian security services.

The senior military officer said: “The scene in the video is not in Nigeria. We don’t have that type of helicopter in the inventory of the Nigerian Airforce (NAF) and none of the security services wears that kind of emblazoned safety jacket that could easily expose their brand identity. That helicopter did not land anywhere in Nigeria.”

CONCLUSION:
There is INSUFFICIENT evidence to prove the claims about the viral video, therefore, based on metadata analysis and other forensic investigations, the claim is both false and misleading.

When I saw the video, I knew it was fake. My reason, if you've ever been neat an operating helicopter you'll know that audibility is near impossible and for you to have the voices coming out clear without shouting showed it was a superimposed voice. Also the helicopter looks like that used by the french military and the location could have been anywhere in the Sahel where the french have operations. Since Buhari's boys captured the nincompoop Nnamdi Kanu after using a prostitute to lure the mumu guy to Kenya, ipob miscreants and mpkurummiri urchins have been posting all sorts of fake news online in a futile bid to discredit the no-nonsense General, Alhaji Muhammadu Buhari. The hoax helicopter video clip joins the long list of such fake materials' postings.

Most Nigerians are too gullible and indolent to decipher what is fake or real.

Often time they run with the news ignorantly because it appeals to their preconceived mind set. Some run with it out of mischief. & senseless opposition.

Little wonder why you could go through a complete page of a thread with all comments leaning in one direction.... Herd mentality.

Now there are condemning the person that took his time to do his research whereas they have no alternative proof to his claim other than the vague video in circulation.

When they know you're progovernment in a matter, they're quick to assumed that you've being paid to support government position. Very petty human being. Their submission reminds of confuscus assertion that opined that "The gentleman understands rightousness, the petty man understands interest".. They always see others through their own self.
Again I ask who pays them also for discrediting the right government position?

You have said noting but gibberish, we all saw similar incident in SW of Nigeria, up to today there has not been concrete evidence from Nigerian government to prove their innocence. Even if it were to be false, where are the evidence and facts to buttress it. We all see how other nation manage their security issues. United State identify and rescue their kidnapped citizen within 24hours within Nigeria territory where our security system could not detect.

What is the purpose of government if it can't defend it's people. Nigerians are sick of all this defence coming from you guys. We live in a country where 100 of people are being abduct as single operation in different parts of the north undetected, it became more worrisome when our security outfits becomes target and easy access where bandit just visit and kidnap military officers, isn't it insane that despite all these Nigeria government has not been able to prosecute any of the sponsors.

Regardless of what you say, Nigerian government is culpable at least for negligence. They have performed abysmally and shouldn't be defend by any rational mind
