I find job hunting depressing. It makes me think of suicidal due to the frustration. A security guard at the gate had once asked me to bribed him before he could give me the email address of a job vacancy of the new hotel he works.Even when I gave him #200,I still didn't get a call after I applied online.I went back to him after some months he told me to be patient.I still dey patient after 5 years. The second hotel is Marriot hotel at gra. After I applied online last year, I received a reply that my application was rejected.I hate trekking for job hunting. |

In the 80s I submitted my CV and that of a dear friend in a gas producing company. The security man was skeptical about letting me in, but when he discovered I had 2 envelopes he asked how many cvs I had, I said one for and the other for my friend who doesn't reside in this state. He felt pity and said I had a good heart to help my friend submit in proxy so he allowed me in. But did the company ever called ![]() |

This brings back memories, in 2017 I printed 10 copies of my CV to go submit physically along with my friends after NYSC in Port Harcourt. At the end of the day, not of 1 of those CV's was submitted as getting past security was an issue. I determined not to go home with those 10 CV's I shared among my friends to do whatever they wanted with it. |

I have never submitted my CV physically before ever since I graduated in 2017. I used to submit via online job site when I newly finished my NYSC. I gave up as I never get called before. |

All this happened immediately I finished university. I had approached a few bank head office IN Lagos and my experiences were quite interesting. Access Bank: The security/receptionist man asked me to leave my resume on the counter. I got a text message about a month later inviting me for test. In two weeks, I joined Access Bank school of Banking Excellence. Zenith Bank: The security at the gate asked me what I wanted and I told him I came to submit my resume. He asked if it was BSc/HND and I told him BSC (although I also have HND). He asked Second Class Upper or Lower, I told him Upper and the guy said "God save you". I was pissed off but didn't show it. He then directed me to a door to go drop my resume. This was on a Tuesday and by Friday, I got a call inviting me to a test at one of their Awolowo Road, Ikoyi branches the galloping Tuesday. We were asked to go to the Head Office after the test and on getting there, after over an hour, they said only those who came from outside Lagos should stay and others will be contacted if we pass. That day was one of my longest day. The following afternoon, I got a call inviting me for interview the following day (Thursday). I didn't get the job but it was an experience. As at then, I haven't gotten my to whom it may concern and I was asked to come back once I get the evidence of graduating from the University. I never went back there. GTBANK: The security officer looked at my CV and asked if I knew anyone. I told him no and he said although my CV looks good but except I know someone I shouldn't bother. This was interesting because a friend who gave his Branch Manager my CV told me the same thing the day before. ECOBANK: I didn't submit my CV. I was called by a friend that he was at Matori branch to take the test and I can come try to crash it. It was the day after my Zenith Bank test and I was pissed off since all I was waiting for was my Zenith Bank test result. I got there, turned off my phone and lied I had come to write the test on invitation. The younger security guy was acting as a God until the older man told me to allow me in as it isn't his business. Luckily, I was in the last set of those who wrote the exam. I went to their Head Office about 2 weeks after and was told I passed. It took them another 2 months before inviting me to the interview and Luckily, it was the same week I went to collect my to whom it may concern since Access Bank never asked for it before I resumed training school. I got their offer the following week and I left Access Bank training school since I wasn't interested in signing the bond. |

Henrypraise:The best is yet to come man. This your story will end in praise as you'll get a good and rewarding job, for you have labored to reap the fruit of your labour. I did something similar back then in 2015 and it was highly productive. I hired an okada man for the entire day, I submitted my cv in almost every company in agbara. i met a police officer who prayed for me after seeing me crying on the bike.well, I got a job at exactly 5pm that very day, can't forget. i was transferred to the company's branch in lagos the following week. today, i'm a living testimony that a man should never give up. |

2015, fresh from the UK with an MSc. I remember driving into Greenwich on Oyin Jolayemi with hard copy CV. The security men must have thought i was a client as they just asked me to sign in. At the reception, i told the receptionist, see oh, i just came to drop CV, i know you guys don't accept hard copy, but just help me. She looked at me for a while, then collected my CV. About a month later, I got invited for an interview. When i arrived the office for the interview, a young chap was trying to submit his own hard copy CV too... the same lady told him point blank: we don't accept hard-copy CV's here. I later got an offer from them, but i had resumed elsewhere. To the receptionist that collected my CV and facilitated the interview, God bless you immensely. I really should have collected her details to call and thank her properly. |

As at 2017 when I finished service year, I was more eager to touch all manufacturing site on Ibadan, as well as contemplating whether to go to Lag with my Lagos base Paddi. Because the common believe by everyone is to go to Lag for a befitting job. I would spend my last penny going round Ibadan to check out my luck. Sometimes I will treck miles to ensure I touch every nooks and crannies and at times I feel ashamed working towards a place i was not invited to drop CV. As times passed by, my eagerness kept on fading as a result of not being called up from all the places av shared my CV. At the other hand I didn't want to move to lag without a reasonable certain amount of money because I wouldn't want to be a financial burden to a friend I would be staying with during the course of my job hunting. It is never an easy task for anyone to go on visiting work places where you are not sure invited. If you don't know who is who or who can use their influence to secure you a job, you will be thinking something else is wrong with you. I don't just know how we got here |
