Software Engineer Or Chartered Accountant? by Fanelgroup(op): 10:25pm On Dec 15, 2021
Hello fam. I want you guys to help me decide a career path, I do not want to invest my time and money to a career path that might be less relevant in 10-15 years time from now.
Thank you all

Well if you want a career that wouldn't go obsolete in the next decade you might consider joining the Catholic priesthood.

from a software engineer dating an auditor/accountant, I'll greatly advise you to pick software engineering

I earn roughly 7x my girls salary excluding side gigs, I can switch jobs almost twice a year for higher pay, accounting job availability is simply not what it use to be

You can develop an accounting software that will earn you a PhD in accounting without studying accounting.

Software engineering is the only option.

You will regret wasting your time studying accounting.

There's no job that is not being replaced by AI.
In fact, Software engineering is being focused on. Check OpenAI codex. Nevertheless, these changes don't happen at once regardless of the estimated time of replacement.

Re: Software Engineer Or Chartered Accountant? by Nobody: 12:13pm On Dec 16, 2021
Software engineer is the way , any tom dick and harry can still become an accountant by the way as ICAN /ACCA accepts any discipline. I’m a chartered accountant myself
Re: Software Engineer Or Chartered Accountant? by abostg(m): 12:14pm On Dec 16, 2021
Are you insinuating that one of the two would be irrelevant in 10 to 15 years time?
Re: Software Engineer Or Chartered Accountant? by Jarus(m):
I am a chartered accountant and not doing badly, but I will advise software engineering.

There are many chartered accountants. It's almost an all-comers field. Although there are also more jobs a CA can apply to (almost all organizations need an accountant and in large organizations, accounting department could be as big as 30 people).

So there may be more small to mid level opportunities for CA but I think software engineering is a narrower and better niche, useful home and abroad. You can relatively easily stand out.

You may be lost in the crowd in CA except you have other skills.
Re: Software Engineer Or Chartered Accountant? by HIRAETH: 12:14pm On Dec 16, 2021
If you choose chartered accountant , please do ACCA not ICAN and relocate
I think software engineering is the better option though .

SE of course! CA isn't bad tho

The irony of it all is that an SE career may become irrelevant in the next 10-20yrs with the advent of AI and other automated machine, at that point, newer developers won't be needed, but those who'd be able to maintain these softwares.

For an accounting career, it has been in existence since forever just like prostitution, it'll likely last for a very long time. If you're able to kickstart your career from a reputable firm like the big4s, you'd see yourself occupying Managerial roles till you retire.
Mind you, the higher you go, the fatter the pay check..however, if you're unable to start on this note, you may just end up with one Adewale and Co. Ltd.

Choose what you have passion for and go for it. Success

See villagers shouting software engineering. They think software engineering work is like the average 9-5 where you just come and go. Software engineering is not for everyone. Go and see the number of software engineers that have burnt out due to the stress of the job. Lazy Niggers who dont like work sef day shout software engineering.
OP both courses are good. Do some research amd hear from actual professionals the pros and cons of both. Dont be listening to these N power hustlers

Your talk shows your years. It’s never good to talk on something you know nothing about. Do you think there’s a course today that don’t have software that will be able to give you almost what you want? For your information, there’s none. But that does not mean such softwares can be used as complete substitutes to professional services. So be guided.

This is the most honest submission so far.

Software Engineering is a life time non-stop learning field o.. And not for the lily livered... You keep learning new releases, getting certifications upon certification... But if you love creating automated solutions.. Welcome to SEng

We are in a tech world even accounting softwares like sage were developed by a software engineer.
Do you know that you could become a chartered accountant but if u lack experience, its just like another degree/certification paper. A company will choose someone that has years of experience as an accountant than someone who is chartered and has no experience.

This could not be further from the truth. In software engineering, connections count for nothing if you can't actually write quality, high-performance code. Anyone who wants to rely on connection instead of skill and hard work would be better off doing almost anything else.
