Many of the comments here show the limited knowledge of the general Public about the duties, powers and privileges of a Police Officer, not to talk of that of an AIG!

For the avoidance of doubt, he has full rights and the privilege to enter that estate without being invited! He only requires a warrant to make a search or arrest. At his level, he can even achieve either or both of these and arrange warrant cover in retrospect, if the act is (in his opinion) for public benefit. The guns they carry around serves both for defensive and offensive purposes! If I were in his shoes, I would be very tempted to make a scapegoat, moreso as I would be retiring within the month. He is just being gentle in order not to tarnish his records.

Nigerians should be careful not to turn their Guard 'Dogs' into 'Bingoes' the way we confront The Police unnecessarily!

How many people are aware that he could have left the place calmly and 'arranged' unknown Gunmen to raid the gate. Then the 'powerful' residents will now report to who?

Still not the faults of the guard , some estates have strict instructions to guards not to let police in without explicit permission from the estate leadership...this is to forestall cases of illegal harrasment of estate dwellers by rogue cops

Very childish statement. They work for a security organisation. The organisation is duly registered and licensed. Those security guards don't carry guns and so don't need any licenses.

You believe that the Nigeria police informed "Common security guards" that the CP was coming? Hahahah....

Like Odumosu like Buratai. If it was a forest area he would have ordered those boys to be shot!

This Statement reeks of Arrogance.

I still did not see anywhere in the statement where the security officer at the gate committed any crime.

On what ground did you arrest them, what will they be charged to court for?

Just pure evil

Is it a layout or an estate? Nigerians do not seem to understand the difference between the two. Meanwhile is it not this same man that announced the autopsy result?

Come to think of it, will they stop governor from entering if he didn't announce his visit?

They should at least respect his position, whatever they are securing, it will still go down to the CP if the case is beyond their control...

The CP isn't just superior to the police alone, he is superior to other security agency as well.

He had no warrant of arrest. He had no right to enter the estate without permission. Even the president of the federal Republic of Nigeria has no right to enter without permission. He would be granted permission for his person and office, however, legally there is no law giving him the right to enter a purely residential area where no crime has been committed.

Every other thing you wrote is pure conjecture and baseless. "He could have left the place and arranged unknown gunmen..." all that is nonsensical and criminal at the same time.

And thank God you are not him. Such attitude of yours belongs in he class of Buratai, people who behave foolishly because they wield guns. People like you shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a weapon.

No security guard is stupid and foolish enough to stop a properly identified security personnel. In fact, the truthnis that if they knew he was the CP they would have knelt down to greet him. They didn't know. Simple. The police are simply telling lies.

There is no estates in this country that are not under the jurisdiction and supervision of a divisional police officer not to talk of CP

He is not going for an arrest but a meetings with his full official uniforms and of that his escort. Police in Unform alone is an authority to be respected. A whole command CP who always give them operational back up to be humilated in that manner. There is no estates in the whole country that is not under jurisdiction and supervision of any divisional police headquarters who provides them back up in case of armed Robbery incident

The estate laws and security organisation are not empowered by the constitution to obstruct a properly identified security personnel from entering an estate.

A warrant is not needed to enter an estate.

What if the estate security where following orders given to them by the estate management ?

The estate management are not recognised by the constitution to the extent as to obstruct a properly identified security personnel.

Basically everything wrong with Nigeria typed in four paragraphs. Did you know no policeman has the right to enter your property if you didn't invite it in (policemen and Nigeria (in)security agents don't worth using proper pronouns for), except it has a search warrant?

The estate is nobody's private property that requires a licence for anybody to enter.

God bless you jare. Some Nigerians just come online to say nonsense. Imagine estate security preventing the state commissioner of police from accessing the estate after he had identified himself and some low IQ individuals here are trying to justify the security's action.

Honestly, the way some people reason ehn.

They let emotions and hatred for the authorities becloud their reasoning.

Where I stay, visitors are required to ask the inviter to call the security phone line and inform them the name of the person visiting before the visitor is allowed in.

If it’s police matter, they often request to see the CSO who will guard them into the estate.

I guess the police guys should have could the inviter to call the gate and let them in. I think it’s that simple...

But most times, like in this occasion, ego won’t let them do the right thing.

Is the commissioner God. He supposed to respect the protocol of that estate. If you don't speak against the miss used of power, one day you will fall a victim. Imagine you are on a queue and someone just walked straight to the person attending to you guys just because he is a commissioner, how will you feel?

The scenarios are different.

A commissioner of police should never be obstructed from entering an estate - a public place.

For you ordinary citizens, it's okay.

But for a security personnel, the constitution empowers them to enter any public place such as an estate.

They should never be obstructed.
