Web Dev is saturated try other fields like WordPress / Chrome Extension only have 5 jobs on Upworks with 1k usd earning, it's more about the milestones within 1 client

Upwork is tricky, you have to serve a niche when starting, trying to get Frontend jobs like Angular is like OYO. Look for niche services. These days platform skills earn more money than tech skills. Magento developer, Moodle Developer, people want to operate things on their platform so if you can learn a d extend those platforms you are in money. Thats my honest advice. I've only done few jobs on Upworks but haven't earned as much as others sha. Laziness na my case, still on 800$ but like I say if you can sell directly you will make much more. Its just you have to build something which takes time. Some of you can partner up and sell items on Envato. I'm saying this, because I often research Envato authors and I notice they work in team but some are single. When I settle down I'll write something here

After going going through all the pages of this thread, I've gone to fix up my upwork account. I'm an intermediate web developer, who is fairly experienced with CSS and JS (vanilla), I started learning React about 2 weeks ago.
My plan was to register on upwork after finishing react, and run 2 portfolio sites for I and a friend. But I came across a video on youtube, and the man was like you don't have to wait until you are ready before you can start applying for jobs(at least freelancing), as long as you have good knowledge of HTML and CSS, you can start, so that you'd not be caught up in what he called "Tutorial hell". Na so I take go open upwork, begin dey apply anyhow oo Lol. I appreciate the info here.

And also their method of withdrawal which is skrill has alot of issues

If you have a Nigerian Account no, but if you manage to land a paypal that recieves cash then sure, because the alternative na DOM USD which comes with a painful charge.

if you must work and survive in the professional coding world then you need to define a niche for yourself. No serious product designer would look at you when you start mentioning I know this and that without quality knowledge or portfolio. Everyone is looking for who can deliver so it is better you present your niche and get employed. For me there are no such things as fullstack developer in the right sense of things, you can either be working as a frontend dev or a backend dev but you shouldn’t be the two at same time. Anytime you’re the two at same time then it means the project you’re working on ain’t a serious project. If it is you would only stick with the one you know best

For those programmer who want to start earning very fast, niching is the way out, else you can spend a lot of time before getting anything done and for the moment just one dev does not stand a chance to build sophisticated software that are needed by software developers now.

Yeah that is just marketing. Most HR are clueless on what to post but when you apply communicate to them what you do and let your portfolio and knowledge speak for you.

Don’t shortchange yourself by applying for only backend jobs. Apply for all fullstack jobs and don’t lie about your skills during the interview. Make it clear about your dexterity in NodeJS. They would give you a chance if you’re showing the potentials.

Don’t apply for jobs that clearly point out Frontend
