Absolutely the right thing to do. However as noted by others, these companies will just add the 6% VAT on top of product price and remit to govt. It even gives them some stream of income as they will likely keep and trade with the VAT money collected and only remit by year end.

As Non Resident Companies not registered in Nigeria, unfortunately they can't pay company income tax. However this is still a good step. Next is to encourage them to register and open offices in Nigeria and expose them to the potential of our large population. If only FG can see the win-win in this and do all it can to make it happen.
If they can make them open offices in Nigeria would be a blast but if that's not happening, with 100$ restriction, it only means the caliber of product we can buy there will reduce again. Anything more than 84$ will be unbuyable

Can't you use your experience on VAT to reason things out??

Best news so far in 2022.

The FG is finally going after the foreign profiteers getting rich off Nigerians without paying taxes on goods sold in Nigeria.

We've lost trillions in uncollected revenue, but better late than never.

Lolz! It is their Nigerian customers that will bear the brunt.

So, we should not collect taxes or enforce our tax laws because you want to buy cheap goods?

With shallow and downtrodden mentality like yours, Nigeria no go progress.

This is about Nigeria as a country, not about you and your cheap goods from China.

This is your own opinion and even with any increase, we still must enforce our tax laws, tax goods and services and generate revenue.

We've lost trillions in uncollected revenue already, we need to step up our collection to increase revenue and eliminate deficit spending and borrowing..

Increase revenue and eliminate deficit spending by increasing tax?

How? HOW? HOW!!!
Explain the economics or thinking behind this.

I am not against effective tax regime. I am against ADDITIONAL TAX BURDEN.

The Nigerian Customs is one of the most inefficient state agency because they are seen as an income generating agency with annual financial targets. It's under the Ministry of finance even. Its designed to raise income for government from spending by citizens.

If it focuses on securing the border, we will earn more. Probably 500% more. But the cart is before the horse.
A classic example of putting tax before important issues.

Are you not even paying taxes on everything you buy in Nigeria? Or you think they don't factor in charges and costs per everything you buy right here in Nigeria?

Abi you are happy to pay taxes on Nigerian goods, but sad and unhappy to pay taxes on foreign goods?

Abi it's just ok for foreigners to sell, make money without paying Nigeria 1 kobo while you pay taxes on the goods you buy right here in Nigeria/

Do you people have brain inside your skulls at all?

Why do you people hate your own country and love foreigners so much? Den swear for you people?

Where is the extra tax burden?

There's no extra tax burden, you pay taxes on Nigerian goods made by Nigerian manufacturers, but you don't want to pay taxes on imported Oyinbo products because you love Oyinbo people and foreigners more than your own country's local sellers of goods and services.

You love China more than your own country or what?

You are not making any sense.

So, you don't live in Nigeria, but you are hyperventilating about paying taxes in Nigeria...You get sense so?

This is the problem with jokers like you, you go to other countries and pay whatever they ask you to pay, you obey their laws from A-Z, but when it comes to your own country, you are lawless, unpatriotic and unruly even though you hypocritically cry and moan for a better Nigeria.

You lawless anti-Nigerian elements care less about Nigeria, you just shed your dirty crocodile tears all over the place while praying for Nigeria's demise.

Btw, you don't live outside Nigeria, you are posting from your village in Abia, I know your type.

What's the difference between paying taxes on what you order online and what you buy right here in Nigeria?

Does it make sense to pay taxes on what you buy in Nigeria and refuse to pay taxes on what you order online? Why must you with internet access and capacity to buy online evade taxes while the man or woman without Internet access or capacity to order online go to the supermarket and pay taxes on the same item.

Where is the indirect taxes here? Buying online is not an excuse for tax evasion or not to pay your fair share, taxes is taxes regardless of where or how you buy.

It makes no difference where you buy from, just pay your fair share.

You are the most stupid person I have ever seen. What a stupidly daft human. Do you even understand what you are saying?

On which good is this stupid government going to tax? Goods to produced by other country and sold to Nigerians? Or goods produced in Nigeria and sold to Nigerians or elsewhere? You are a very stupid person.

Now, Nigeria made exported goods tax free to promote export but if they want to reintroduce it, they should mandate all exporters to include VAT on the prices on their goods which most country does. So, Amazon to multitax Nigerians after the seller has already included vat on their goods then Amazon should include Nigerian VAT as well? Are you that stupid? What happened to import charges and onshore charges? So, Nigerians will be charged for goods bought after paying charges to origin government and then get charged again at destination? May you ruin

Recently, I saw that Nigeria is no longer on Amazon country list since yesterday or so. May God perish you guys life

Amazon just need to add the tax fee on every product shipping to Nigeria. Case close

So Nigerians to pay double tax both home and abroad? Try to send enquiry to Amazon, you will be schocked Nigeria is no longer on the list especially on Amazon UK

The government should work hard to promote local production so that goods listed by Nigerians, Amazon will help th to charge. Who pays multiple VAT just to buy a product?

You don't charge VAT on foreign land. You only charge destination. Which value did your country added to the goods? Are you that stupid?

Locally made goods are not the only goods in our markets or supermarkets that you pay taxes on, there are foreing goods in our markets that you buy and pay applicable taxes in so what nonsense and idiotic rubish are you talking about?

Do you not pay taxes and locally made goods, or you are just slow in the head?

It doesn't matter where the goods are made, locally or imported, you must pay taxes on both, this is common sens, something you obviously know litle or nothing abiut?

What kind of elementary or kindergarten nonsense are you talking about, gan sef?

Go and sit down with that rubbish.

What is this joker talking about?

Who is talking about VAT? Chinese people pay taxes on all orders coming from other countries just like paying taxes when they go to the store to buy the same items, so what rubbish are you talking about?

When Americans order goods on Amazon, Amazon collect taxes on behalf of the states the goods are being shipped to, and they still have to pay their yearly corporate tax to their FG, no connection.

Please, confine your local knowledge to Nigeria because you obviously don't know anything about other countries.
Re: Amazon, AliExpress To Pay 6% Tax From Profits Made From Nigerian Customers - FG by NGpatriot: 8:50am On Jan 06, 2022

USA
All goods imported from China are now subject to a nationwide value-added tax (VAT).
Most goods imported for dropshipping purposes will likely be subject to a 17% tax.

Merchants within the US will be responsible for VAT on all purchases made on AliExpress. This needs to be done through the VAT clearance procedure, aligning with local custom authority requirements.

If you know how to read, then read carefully before I read another rubbish about other countries..
