With the rate Nigerians are now paying taxes, it will soon reach a stage when they find nothing to tax, the next thing they will tax is the air we breathe SMH.

Which Amazon or which AliExpress.

All they are doing is increasing the cost of transaction of Nigerians. These companies will just add a 6% NGA Tax on transactions originating from Nigeria at checkout.
Collate the sum and give NG Govt.
It's not coming from their profit.

You can say that again bro!

Absolutely right, don't understand what the counter argument is all about. We are struggling with revenues which leads to borrowing to fund budget deficits. We all complain about borrowing but will frown at opportunities to shore up our revenue to reduce or stop the borrowing. As you said, quality govt delivery requires money. Who will fund all the goodies we are expecting from govt? With current situation, the brightest brains cannot do much without resolving the revenue problem. Next to go are fuel and power subsidies. As unpopular as they are, they are vitally important and someone has to take that painful decision.

Nigerians are sometimes not worth fighting for, they reason and think upside down, they go over and above to work against their own country in favor of foreigners and in the process deny themselves their own entitled rights. This is how much they hate their own country.

Even when Nigeria battled the UAE in favor of a Nigerian business and jobs, the same Nigerians supported the UAE instead of their own countries and their own jobs here in Nigeria.

Sad.

This is your own opinion and even with any increase, we still must enforce our tax laws, tax goods and services and generate revenue.

We've lost trillions in uncollected revenue already, we need to step up our collection to increase revenue and eliminate deficit spending and borrowing..

Exactly what's weak economy and standard of living got to do with entities making money in our country paying taxes and obeying our sovereign tax laws?

Importing rubbish into the country with ZERO benefits to Nigeria dwindles quality of life.

Quality of life improvement is collecting taxes to build roads, rail, hospitals, bridges, for social programs, to defend your country and to pay your salary, not other countries making money from your massive market and population with nothing in return.

Sometimes I'm just glad and happy that some f you are not part of any decision-making body in Nigeria.

Yours is just poverty thinking, not critical thinking?

Your quality of life according to you and your demonic APC government is provision of infrastructure in the poverty capital of the world while people go hungry due to high costs of living and you wonder why insecurity is at an all-time high in the country. Don't worry, the insecurity will soon touch you and your foolish politicians to the extent they will be taking helicopters to move around in the city then you will notice why the standard of living for the masses is more important than provision of infrastructure. Yes PDP might have problems with insecurity and corruption, but the insecurity is even worse under your government due to the refusal to understand the fact that an hungry man is an angry man and stomach infrastructure before physical infrastructure. PDP understood that, unfortunately your demonic and evil party does not and sooner or later they will understand but it will be too late which is why PDP will continue to get my support and vote even if they present a goat or stone over your evil party. End of rant.

Best news so far in 2022.

The FG is finally going after the foreign profiteers getting rich off Nigerians without paying taxes on goods sold in Nigeria.

We've lost trillions in uncollected revenue, but better late than never.

You think the prices of the goods and services these companies are offering won't increase to accommodate the tax......think again.... grin

Who always bears the brunt of tax, consumers..... grin

He only succeeded in making Nigerians pay more for goods/services they would have ab initio gotten for less..... grin

Especially now that Jeff bezos is angry and would want to up his game to clinch back the title of world's most richest man from Elon musk... grin

Bad government, bad economics..... grin

Seun needs to list you as a persona non grata on Nl for at least a month to calm my nerves....... grin grin grin grin grin

This means as an e-commerce merchant who buys on AliExpress and similar websites...

You pay 6% VAT for items bought.

Add it to the new 7.5% VAT you will pay for Facebook ads.

Prices of such items will soar...

God bless you jare.
The tax they pay on YouTube profits, where do they think it goes? To the west! So they make profit in Nigeria but pay the tax in UK. Does that add up? No!
The fact that government insist on tax doesn't translate to increased taxes to customers. Don't think less of yourself or your country! These companies already pay the tax but remit to different country. Your govt. Is only asking for its due, which is the evidence of a serious government.
Do you know that the US still runs after the taxes of its citizens within Nigeria? Ask your bankers.
E.g if a US citizen is suppose to pay 40% tax, but Lagos state asks him to pay 30% tax. His tax rate is NOT 70%; he only shows US govt that he has remitted 30% in Nigeria and can only be charged 10% by US govt(same tax rate).
The only way it can increase the customers tax is if the tax rate in Nigeria is higher than the west which is not the case. My opinion.

and remember we can't buy anything more than 100$, it will only restrict us from buying products that were once closer to 100$ before the inflation. If there are going to do this, they need to raise the ban and we are paying N470/$ countering the normal rate of 411/$ through the bank

Taxes have never made an economy grow in any part of the world.
Production does. That's where Nigeria's government has missed it all these years You can't tax your way into prosperity or economic growth

And imposing tax on your citizens because you have imbalance of trade is not going to improve your export, IGR, FDI or GDP

If you produce, they won't be able to export to your economy. Buhari border closure achieved what exactly? That's him trying to stop importation (rice).

No country is interested in getting you benefits if all you do is import from them or giving you something in return as you point out above.

It's not critical thinking that is required. It's economics.
That's why the economy hasn't grown in 20 years, because people that think like you are those making the lousy decisions all these years. The results are evident.

Public infrastructure can not be funded from taxes too. All those things you listed above there are just white elephants you know can't be achieved.

This isn't right.

Why a 6% turnover tax instead of VAT. VAT is 7.5% of the cost of the product which is even higher. There's also import duty.

This policy may discourage many of these companies from doing business with Nigeria. The country will be the biggest loser.
AliExpress use to be solace for most Nigerian to get things they can afford at cheaper price. Just like the 100$ ban ain't enough, this again. It's so sad am still in this country
