How Can I Help My Brother Out Of This Mess

Good afternoon nairalanders. As I'm typing this, my mum is not herself and she's been crying since morning because she caught my younger one smoking in his room..

He locked himself in the room for a very long time and my mum decided to go check on him. After a while, he sprayed his room and opened the door.

The room was filled with this hard drug smell, she called me and we decided to check the room even though he denied ever smoking.. We saw a light brown paper that he probably tears from, a nylon containing something like sand and a lighter behind the toilet seat. Despite all this, he still denied it claiming the smell is probably from the next compound.
My brother just clocked 16 and he's in SS2..

How can I advise and help him stop because I believe he was actually smoking even though he denied it?

My brother , it is only God that can deliver a person from smoking . And I will advise that you tell your brother to start attending a bible-believing church before he advances to stronger hallucinogenic substances

first prayer..secondly try to separate him from his peers.. thirdly advice and guide him...I wish him all the best

That's funny for an underage.. nothing to worry about tho cos it's part of growing up as a kid..all you have to do is sit him down and speak to him as an elder bro politely..I bet he's gonna listen to you...he might not listen to your mom I know why i am saying this...

Don't be harsh with your words when speaking to him..you know what you guys do na? Bro code..let him feel happy confiding with you..

As for your mum she is just being a woman..most are really emotional.. nothing there..when he grows up he's gonna decide whether or not he's gonna smoke but for now it's a no no..

You can beat him now,but You can't beat him when he gets older,so you'll only be wasting your yime and Energy. And besides,he will only get smarter and not get caught next time.

find that guy a therapist, he is a teenager and in a puberty stage, is mind is a curious one. He will want to test anything and everything. And don't spare the rod so the child won't be spoilt.

Yeah, he sure need prayers but I don't think separating him from his peers is a possibility..

Try to find out why he went into smoking in the first place, from there, you know where to go.

Only God will save your brother now. It's not easy for teens to resist peer pressure.

Since he has started, I doubt if he'll be stopping anytime soon. Some manage to resist the pressure to smoke but those who don't, usually grow up to be smokers.

The rate at which youths smoke these days should be declared a national emergency....In fact, our senators and representatives should put it as a matter that needs a thorough discussion in their respective houses,on how to curb it....

My best friend is currently a victim of this nonsense.....A very clean nigha as at back then now looks so unkept to the extent that people even ask me what's wrong with my friend .

You can see how chronic smokers are all littered all over nairaland...They even glorify it like something that give award to them

I remember while growing up i always saw young guys smoking, with great enthusiasm i always wanted to try it of course with emmanuel my childhood paddi, well dad had a way of advising with action, when he saw my enthusiasm, he offered me and emma 2 sticks each and said we could go on smoking if we were successful smoking.....

Long story short, i developed a phobia for anything smoke after i almost choked my lungs out, that was what discouraged me from smoking
