Yeah actually working on more light meals, then figure out how many hours I need to spend at the gym to burn the calories.

Cousin9999:

It's still a light meal. Butter isn't unhealthy unless you're consuming too much. And the healthy fat in butter may make her feel fuller and less likely to overeat.

Don't give up what you love eating if it is not bad for you.
Moderation is better than deprivation.

Consider adding tea to your diet.
It helps burn fat.

I don't like exercising or gym altogether. So for me, being reasonable means making every calorie count towards my goal. undecided

Don't get me wrong here... no be say you go starve yourself but instead you choose to indulge on foods that actually hit the spot. For example, I ate a slice of fudge brownie this morning, and I almost 6 hours later, I was able to make room for a hotdog(no bun). In a couple of hours. Make every calorie count is what I mean. undecided

Unfortunately, I couldn't eat more than half the steak. Seems I'm beginning to lose my penchant for eating meat.

We (most) do burn. I work on the farm and I burn and reburn all. Sometimes, eye day turn me as I mostly eat spaghetti.

As for me, I don't have time for calorie counting. I eat whatever I love and can afford without any feeling of guilt. When i get money, I will hit the gym else just live like that. Calorie counting is enough stress already

Not everyone works on a farm or in construction or manual labor self. These days, more and more people do work that instead require them to sit down all day, and so the waist continues to expand as they wolf down all those calories day after day. undecided

Counting calories is stress when you haven't gotten a hang of it. It goes hand in hand with watching your portions. If I were, say, to rearrange furniture all day long, I will ofcourse load up so I don't faint half way through the day. But if I am spending the entire day in bed for instance, I know that the last thing I need is more food than my body can burn. undecided

I think what most of us need is moderation and balancing of meals, seriously. Some may burn the excess calories, some won't.
Also some won't get fat no matter what but still eat poor meals.

A better approach would be to let others know about importance of balanced diet, how to easily achieve it in this Nigerian economy, and how to eat moderately.

Balanced diet na another entirely difficult subject matter here. The issue here is watching one's daily caloric intake which in a way is portion watching. undecided

I say in a way because portion watching can become a bit ambiguous when we don't pay close attention to other factors. For instance, if i work as a kindrgarten teacher and i consume on the weekends, vacations and holidays, the same portions I consume during the school year, I am bound to struggle weight wise and this for the majority since those with high metabolism are in the minority pretty much everywhere you go on this planet. And I don't ofcourse need to explain the problems that go along with obesity to you or anyone. undecided

In my opinion, what calory counting does is keep you aware of your body's caloric need and letting you realize when you may have exceeded it so you can adjust over the next day, weeks and months to compensate and get you back on track with ease. grin

Ofcourse, it takes time to develop any habit. undecided

I suggested balanced diet because it will be easier for the average Nigerian, and our mentality will accept it faster. It's just the way we are.

Tell the average man not to eat loads of bread in the morning, heavy loads of swallow in the afternoon and a large plate of rice in the evening, and you will be ignored.

However, put more emphasis on balanced diet first, and that way, the person can be advised to reduce some loaves of bread, or swallow for more fruits and vegetables. The person can take more protiens whichay be more filling and slower in digestion than carbohydrates.

With this increased awareness, it will be easier to introduce portion control and calorie balancing.

It's also not easy to keep calorie count because most of our foods are not made that way and almost all of us won't go out of our way just to start calculating how many calories is in a spoon of rice, or 100 of Amala or fufu.

Most people eat to satisfy their hunger and just move on. It will take time.

You make good points but my reason for not preaching balanced diet is because I have come to understand how much harder it is to maintain such on a budget like most Nigerians are on.
Plus, for me, it is hard to do that when a meal consists for instance of Pizza and fries or bagels and cream. I take supplements instead - the vegetables and fruits come when they come. undecided

Balanced diet is all good and well for those who can afford it. But the majority , who I suspect can't, can still be made to realize that the loaf of bread or garri to be swallowed should be done with wisdom. undecided
