Hi guys,

My program starts in August. Is it safe to apply for Visa now?

Again, can I fill out and submit the DS-160 before paying for the Visa fee?

Help please.

Congratulations! I'm not sure you'll get a visa this early, to the best of my knowledge. New student visas (F and M) can be issued up to 120 days before the start of a term of study. However, you will not be permitted to enter the US on your visa more than 30 days prior to the start date printed on your I-20.

Good evening everyone who is making relentless efforts to making sure people get it right via US Student'sVisa. I am a new member of Nairaland and I have questions that needed an urgent clarifications.
I based in Germany and currently doing my Master's studies. I started my Master's studies in October and have not yet written any exams. I applied for an MBA at one of the Universities in United States and got admitted. I have got my Form 120 from my school and about applying for my Student's Visa.
Below are my questions for clarifications.

1. I have applied for Visiting Visa at US Embassy at Abuja when I was still in Nigeria but got denied on the bases of no much travelling history. I only visited Ghana as my first international travelling.

2. The agent that applied for my former US Visiting visa put Married instead of single which I complained and he said it will make the Consulate to grant me Visa. All my documents I used in applying for Germany studies and European visa all bear single instead of Married.
Do I need to correct the marital status back to single or I should live it Married as was first put by my former agent?

3. My brother lives in US and he came through Visiting but now Married to a US citizen. Is it wise to put any information about him and what will be my answer if the VO ask me if I have any relation in US?

4. A company I am working with is my sponsor and is it okay using a company as a sponsor?

Please I will like any one to help and put me right with the above questions.

Thanks as I await for criticisms and corrections

Ezichi123:

Will just add a few of my own experience. Hopefully someone with more knowledge comes in as well.

1. I have applied for Visiting Visa at US Embassy at Abuja when I was still in Nigeria but got denied on the bases of no much travelling history. I only visited Ghana as my first international travelling.

- I had no travel history either and was approved on first attempt.

- i think you shd be truthful on your ds160. Lies can cause nervousness and affect your chances if you get asked abt it.

3. My brother lives in US and he came through Visiting but now Married to a US citizen. Is it wise to put any information about him and what will be my answer if the VO ask me if I have any relation in US?

- I declared my sibling in the USA. I was asked about it but mostly around sponsorship.

4. A company I am working with is my sponsor and is it okay using a company as a sponsor?

- I believe so. I've read several posts here with successful outcomes.

I do think it's largely based on the VO's discretion and how well you fill in your ds160. Best of luck.

Please house this ir urgent since my ist question isn't answered even though I have read back and got similar solutions.

Is it possible to change visa interview location on Ds-160 and the MRV payment receipt will still be valid?
I wish to change the interview location from Abuja to Lagos since they denied my EA with Abuja location because I just got informed from what i read here that I should have changed location while reapplying for Visa and EA the second time ,mayb that was why the EA got denied.

Note that my ist interview and EA was at Abuja but I got delayed

Thanks for replying

Spring 2022.

One more thing bro, did they require official transcript/test scores before processing your application or did you just submit your unofficial copy for initial admission decision purposes?

Hello everyone.
I'm currently in my finals studying Computer Science. I'm going to be applying to grad schools next year (my target is Fall 2023). Based on my research, I discovered that I have to make my profile very competitive inorder to secure fully funded scholarship for masters degree (I don't think going for doctorate degree aligns with my career goals).
I don't have any cordial relationship with my lecturers beyond the classroom aside my project supervisor.

Background Information:
Current CGPA: 4.64
Research Paper: Nil (I'm currently working on one, in addition to my final year project , I plan on publishing both if I'm able to pull it off)
Internship: 2 (3 months and 6 months respectively)
Volunteering:
- volunteer with an NGO

How can I work on having a competitive profile? I have 7 months left to finish my bachelor's degree.

Good evening all.
Weldone to you all that are always making sure that people get it right in this study abroad journey.

Please those in biological sciences or biology(MS) how did you people get a professor to respond to your emails for supervision? They are not responding and deadlines are almost here for schools and I can't submit application without securing an advisor.

Somebody help....

Thanks in advance.

I feel you already have a decent profile.
All you have to do now is meet the admission requirements of the programs and schools that you are interested in. Regarding your lecturers, I'm not sure what amount of cordiality is required to obtain your professors' reference letters, but you should be extremely deliberate in obtaining their endorsements.

housegirl:
Hello everyone, please I need advise from gurus in the house. I am on F1 visa. I resumed August 2021 in the US. My husband is going for his F2 interview this January in Lagos. He was previously denied in November 2021 when they asked 'how he intends to make money'.

We went back to drawing board, changed I-20 to his personal funds because the former one he was denied with had the name of my friend who is a Permanent resident in the US as sponsor.

We have now changed the I-20 to his personal funds and worked on the Ds-160. He has a full time job in Nigeria even though he has just worked there for 1 year this January.

Is this strong enough as home tie?

He also has businesses and has been to the US before sponsored by Lagos state for business but on B1/B2 which is now expired.

Advice from gurus in the house would be appreciated as we prepare for interview.
We do not have any children yet and our marriage is 2years, 9months.

I would be back to testify.

Hi housegirl, I wish your husband all the best in his interview. Please I want to inquire about F2 visa interview dates. I want to apply for f2 for my wife. I heard there are no early interview dates, and might even be about 1year. Your husband had an appointment in November, and now in January. Please, I would like to know how long it takes to get an appointment date now in Nigeria.

Moderators, please let me know if I'm going against the rules and I'll delete this post. For now, here goes nothing:

So, I encountered loads of difficulties when I was leaving Nigeria. With the limits on Nigerian bank cards, I and the guy attending the same school (Miami University, Oxford, Ohio) could not pay for many things, even within that $50/$100 CBN-imposed limit. We spent days trying to pay for a hotel/Airbnb, GreyHound services, and whatnot. I've not been that stressed in years.

Let me not even go into how AirBnB canceled a booking when we were at the airport, an hour to getting on our flight. Why did they do that? Our booking was tagged as fraudulent. So, the booking came from Nigeria and payment from a virtual card with a US address. Also, because Airbnb refused to verify our Nigerian phone numbers for reasons known to them, we used one belonging to a friend in the UK. It was extremely complicated, and we'd tried all we knew, but that's the only option we had before we found someone who helped at the last minute. Let's just say that we ended up rooming in a hotel (read: motel) in a Nigerian-like neighborhood in New York. grin

Lol. Don't ask why the UK friend didn't just pay and do everything from his end. As I said, things were super-complicated.

The thing is that things could have been easier if someone helped facilitate everyone from one spot, with one card.

Based on this experience (and several more), I would like to help anyone who needs to pay for buses, accommodation, semester dues, and anything that they can't do from Nigeria. I've seen people who can't access US websites, people whose cards are not working, and people who are faced with using a third-party offering ridiculous over-N515 (naira) exchange rates.

I understand that everyone's being careful and that you don't want to get scammed. But I am genuinely doing this because I can imagine the kind of stress people are going through right now.

Please send a message if you would like me to help. When you reach out, I can share details about myself, and you can Google me, too, for credibility purposes.

At this point, the stress in the world (read: Nigeria) is too much to add difficulties when japa-ing.

I sincerely hope this helps someone. Again: Moderators, if this is way off, please let me know and I'll delete this.

Thank you.

Your contact pls.
