Most of us also didn't have " a dime " as students, we can't brag about what we ate while in school, but we weathered the storm. It's a normal phase u will pass through in a developing country like Nigeria, but u are the one who will help yourself.

There is nothing wrong if as a student u enter a building site during the weekend to help them fill decking, lift blocks, mix concrete etc. If u are not really cut for tedious tasks like that , u can meet a local caterer who gets job often to assist in serving food and drinks for a fee at weekend parties. There are tons of other legal menial jobs u can do to keep body and soul together instead of expecting divine miracle/manna from nairaland food section.

If one begs for health/medical issues it is understandable that illness do wipe away people' life savings, but for food; u need to help urself by giving more value to the society so u can get rewarded for it. There's no miracle anywhere other than the one u orchestrate urself with ur own hands.

Here's an idea if you want to make something cheap, fast, and filling; Amatriciana (bacon chili tomato sauce).

Bacon, tomatoes, garlic, chili pepper, basil, oil, black pepper, salt, a bit of romano (not parmesan) cheese, and pasta of your choice.

True..... I remember telling my dad while in school that I have no money. He was like do you have any job? Since that time it beacons on me that if you provide no value you seldomly get paid.

What most people fail to acknowledge is the fact that all fingers are not equal; not everybody is fortunate to have parents who do not only pay their school fees but can cater every of their needs . When one finds himself in such situations it’s only wise u do everything legally possible to not remain in such situations in the nearest future .

I know of a bros who was my senior in school , he used to sell chin chin to other students when he’s not having lectures.... he moves from one department to the other hawking his goods. He ended up being the first person to graduate with first class in the department since inception. Today he’s a lecturer in the same department ( he was offered automatic employment after NYSC) , has a family that is going well and almost through with his PhD.

He survived in school because of the value he was able to offer his immediate community . That’s how one leaves the “trenches” , not by begging others for money to feed instead.

I remember that year I sell crack applications (
Licensed applications) and also activate free browsing for a token while in school.
We too like entitlement in this country, some of us feel our situation is an avenue to beg or deserve sympathy

Just to chip in my two cents, I worked for a really popular fast food while I was a student. That’s where I learned to cook a lot of stuff. It just started one semester when there was extended strike and I didn’t want to be idle. But after the strike, I kept the job until I graduated because why not?. It was actually quite fun to be able to do that even though my parents provided for me. At least I could have extra in addition to what they gave me.

Not knocking anyone who needs assistance and asks for help but I’m really only motivated to help folks I see making effort to better themselves no matter how small their efforts are. At least they are doing something

Huncle Disckson, you just reminded me of my food pics back then in school. Growth is divine mehn.

Also, I love the words "give more value to the society so you can get rewarded for it". The world itself is filled with problems, the only way we can make impact/money is solving these problems either directly or indirectly. However, our solutions are sometimes ignored or sent to the trash.....We will keep trying. One day, very soon, we will make global impact and cool cash to fend for ourselves and the society at large.
